I have a question that may sound stupid but here goes. In the nutrition classes we are told that a surving of meat is 3 ounces, and to weight everything. Do you weigh the meat before of after cooking? The rest of it I get, just not that. My surgery has been rescheduled for June 8 due to insurance problems. They are also removing my stomach and placing a Jejunostomy tube.

I would use a post cooking weight. You have to remember you are going to have some shrinkage druing the cooking of it.

Thanks Lin
That's why I asked. There is a difference in weight before and after
cooking.

Absolutely and I learned that years ago from one of the many diets that I
have been on in my lifetime and it is great information to have. My
dietician has reiterated this to me on several occasions.

Hi Renee, well I'm three days before my surgery, I have been on the 10 day pre-op diet for 14 days now and have lost 12 pounds! I'm so excited but have come down with this sinus, deep cough that is keeping me awake, I don't want anything to get in the way of my scheduled surgery Tues.!!!! Did your doctor tell you to replace multi-viat with 2 Flintstone chewable? I wish it was MONDAY!!!!!! Have a good weekend, Sara

Hi, Sara. I have lap rny on April 3, so I am one month post-op. I can tell you that I already feel this is one of the best things I have ever done for myself!!! I have lost 26 pounds since surgery, and have had no complications. The best advice I can give you is to do all the research you can prior to surgery. I am fortunate to have a friend who had the procedure about 9 months earlier - she has been a blessing to me. Just plan to follow your surgeon's instructions - as you will find they all differ somewhat in what they recommend. I had to do a clear liquid diet the day prior to surgery and take something to "clean me out". After surgery I was on full liquid diet until I was released from the hospital. After that I could go slowly with "pureed" foods for at least two weeks. After the second week my surgeon advises slowly introducing regular foods as tolerated. I have had no significant problems. A couple of times I have eaten a little too fast and that caused me some minor discomfort, but like I said, nothing major and I would certainly do this all over again. Feel free to e-mail me with any specific questions you might have. Good luck!!! Renee
