Hi Renee, well I'm three days before my surgery, I have been on the 10 day pre-op diet for 14 days now and have lost 12 pounds! I'm so excited but have come down with this sinus, deep cough that is keeping me awake, I don't want anything to get in the way of my scheduled surgery Tues.!!!! Did your doctor tell you to replace multi-viat with 2 Flintstone chewable? I wish it was MONDAY!!!!!! Have a good weekend, Sara

Hi, Sara. I have lap rny on April 3, so I am one month post-op. I can tell you that I already feel this is one of the best things I have ever done for myself!!! I have lost 26 pounds since surgery, and have had no complications. The best advice I can give you is to do all the research you can prior to surgery. I am fortunate to have a friend who had the procedure about 9 months earlier - she has been a blessing to me. Just plan to follow your surgeon's instructions - as you will find they all differ somewhat in what they recommend. I had to do a clear liquid diet the day prior to surgery and take something to "clean me out". After surgery I was on full liquid diet until I was released from the hospital. After that I could go slowly with "pureed" foods for at least two weeks. After the second week my surgeon advises slowly introducing regular foods as tolerated. I have had no significant problems. A couple of times I have eaten a little too fast and that
caused me some minor discomfort, but like I said, nothing major and I would certainly do this all over again. Feel free to e-mail me with any specific questions you might have. Good luck!!! Renee

Hi I'm Jennifer. 31 from Alabama. I have been a member on here for a year
but haven't really been able to keep due to everyday life but I'm turning
to you guys once again.. I had my surgery Aug. 28th 2008 and have so far lost
around 135 lbs. I am currently at 354. I know that's great but I have a
lot more to lose. I weighed 489 before surgery and I want to get down to at
least 200 lbs. I am having problems eating the right things not because I
don't want too but because I can't afford too. I don't eat junk by no means
but I'm becoming a carb junkie slowly all over again. I have became lactose
intolerant since surgery also and I can't stand my protein powders mixed in
water but soy milk is so expensive. Any ideas on how to use the powders? I
want to start exercising more and would love to join a gym but can't
afford to do that right now so I am gonna start walking on my treadmill and
outside and riding my bike more. I guess my questions are: 1 what are some
cheap ways to get in more protein and good for me food? and 2 Do you think my
losing is already over or can my tool help me get to the 200 lb mark that I
want to be in?
I thank God everyday for this wonderful tool and I'm not about to give up
on it now. Just asking for any suggestions anyone might have.
Thank you so much in advance and I wish you all a great weekend!
Jennifer

I buy the unflavored whay protein powder and mix it in things like
crystal light or sugar free kool aid. Can your doctor prescribe Lactaid
drops? You simply put the drops in your milk and you have lactose free milk.
I have not had my surgery yet. Will in 2 weeks but I have had a lot of GI
problems and live on a liquid diet anyway. I used to weigh 437 now I'm
down to 270 on my own but I can't seem to get past there. It is so
frustration. good luck and I will keep you in my prayers.

I just became lactose intolerant and its, I find, another gift given to me
by my surgeon. At first it was a shock to have to restart the process all
over again and find out what I could eat. I felt like I was going to die by
way of just not knowing what to feed myself.
But what I do is buy plenty of meat from the meat market and plenty of
veggies from the farmers market and soups.
I haven't yet bought soy protein powder but I would stay away from anything
whey as it will hurt your pouch and make it expend. I remember I kept
asking people here, "How much gas is too much gas?" because I was exploding with
it from my mouth and suffering so much, only to finally figure out I was now
lactose intolerant. wow!
So with that said, we can explore together the possibilities of eating and
living life with this extra gift and learn how to handle it with working
with our new pouch too!
I haven't tried the lactose drops so please share your findings, if it
worked or not. When I try the soy milk with the soy protein I will share also.
The easiest and cheapest thing for me to do is just stick with meat and
veggies, 2oz to 4oz all together meat and veggies. I bought a couple of smaller
plates to help me think that I am really eating the regular amount, and of
course, I am for me. Drink tons of sf drinks or water a day and stay full on
that liquid. Taking in meat and veggies also opens up doors for me to get
side orders of teriyaki chicken take out at Chinese places and fajitas at
Mexican places. Corn tortillas only not flour ones.
We can eat, being lactose intolerant, things made with corn, barley, oats
and 7 grain wheats, but not flour.
Also Italian bread is not made with milk so a small corner piece of that
every once in a while would be fine, but make it small because all breads
expand and that is made from flour which is not recommended for us at all. No
Rice either because that expands too. But on the contrary, Thai rice noodles
are easy on my system and I dont know why, but a few is not a bad thing.
And no beer or sodas. lol, we all know that, right? Oh but it tasted so
good with meals at one time. :)
Keep us informed of your progress and insights.
