Perhaps you could try the 5 day pouch diet test or change everything over
to sugar free. The 5 day pouch URL was posted a week ago. The compulsion to
over eat is a strong one because the natural desire to eat is strong. I watch
my son who is very fit and thin and watch the way that he eats. He eats
until his stomach is full and then he just walks away from the table. I try and
do the same thing.
good luck,
peace Lee
I am almost 3 years post-op, my problem is that I am a a stand still. I
have craving for sweets. Help I want to continue on journey successfully. I
fell of the wagon, and is having a difficult time trying to get back on track.

Vic,
I have a real question. This worries me what I think you are saying. Are
you saying that the WLS did not at all get rid of your insulin
resistance/Diabetes at all? Are you still very much a Diabetic? Did the doctor tell you
that sometimes Diabetes will never go away?
I still have a sugar count of 150 most days and some days it is 105. This
worries me very much because my doctor told me to stop taking Diabetic
medication all together. The Diabetes has ruined my eyes, ears and one other organ
and he told me to stop the medication for it?? Now how will I know if my
body can actually cure the illness? I was taking his word for it that it will
go away, but I am concerned.
So, am I reading this right?
Your WLS did not help with the Diabetes at all?
Thanks
peace lee
The majority of my symptoms have abated since my hysterectomy, altho I
still have insulin resistance (which I believe has been extended by my WLS).
Things can get better, as I hope they will for you.. You sound like someone who
has educated themselves about their situation and taken action. I predict a
healthier life for you and wish you all the best.

In the 10 years of this groups existence, there have been MANY, MANY success stories of how WLS patients' diabetes has gone away and medicine is no longer needed. You can find these old posts if you search on 'diabetes'
What I was 'trying' to express by using the term 'insulin resistance' is the condition called 'dumping'. Dumping is when a person who's had WLS consumes a sugar-laden food and then gets a 'reaction' that includes feeling flu-like aches in their arms, a queasy 'stomach', gas, possibly nausea, headache and even diarrhea. I may well have mis-used the term 'insulin resistance', since, as I've stated many times, I am NOT a medical professional.
Thank you for asking. I hope my 'clarification' is the answer you were seeking.

Vic
I will be having my surgery on 6/8. My endocrinologist told me that
SOMETIMES the diabetes is cured but not all the time. It seems to depend
on how long you have had the diabetes, what your C- Peptide numbers are,
and, what your insulin number is. Judging from my numbers I will NOT be cured
but it will "Help a hell of a lot" (Doctors quote). He said I should
still need the insulin pump but will be able to keep it on the Basel rate and
not have to bolus very much. I will take that since my glucose numbers are
out of site at times......in both directions. Hope this helps. Our
weight loss team tells everyone that the diabetes "is cured most of the time".
