Me too! I can totally relate! Sometimes I still see that overweight lady in the mirror. My leader says that is perfectly normal. I think that it is because of my stomach sticking out because of losing the muscle tone in my stomach. Anyway, I just keep trying to believe what everyone else says!

Me three!

I have a very difficult time seeing myself realistically now. I could never understand anorexics-- I couldn't understand how they couldn't see how thin they were, but I almost understand it now. I still see "fat" areas when I look in the mirror. I have to try to focus on what the scale says and the smaller size I now wear and not focus on areas that will never be perfect. I am told all the time how thin I am (and some even say too thin) so I have to try to believe them. I have been under my goal for almost a year and a half and I'm still not there mentally..... I was heavy for so many years that it is a hard shift mentally....

That is exactly how I feel - especially when I look in the mirror.  My husband keeps telling me how crazy I sound and that he does not understand how I can not see it but it is there.  One day doing laundry I came across a pair of jeans I was trying to figure out which of my daughters they belong to (16&21) and I was amazed when I figured out they were mine.  But looking at them while I was hanging them up I kept thinking there was no way my big butt and hips was going to fit into them.

Isn't it amazing how our brain works.  I am with you - I used to watch shows about anorexics and thought - how can they not see their bones are sticking out - but I am seriously like that.  I know in my heart I am smaller now - I just have a hard time accepting it.  I have been heavy my whole life and I am not used to hearing people tell me I am tiny.  Went to the doctor last week and the nurse was taking my blood preassure and she said"wow you have tiny arms" when she was putting on the cuff.  I see the bat wings hanging down - ha.

I have a famly history of dengenerated bone and cartlidge.  My sister and brother have both had to have surgery for it but mine has not gotten that bad.  I baby my knees though - when they start hurting - I stop doing what makes them hurt.  Going up steep steps really hurt - even after all my weight loss.

What is race walking?

Yes I am definately going to continue to journal.  I honestly believe that is the main reason for my success and if I stop journaling - I will not account for everyone.   So I will continue etools because I just love journaling on line.

Janet

Janet
How exciting that you are walking a 4 miler! Good for you!

What's wrong with your knees? Running actually is not bad on the knees if
you use proper form and have good, supportive shoes that work with your
biomechanics. However if you have an underlying problem, it can impact that
(like arthritis).

You could look at race walking. My husband was just diagnosed with arthritis
so he can't run, but we're going to look into race walking. He's SO
disappointed to not be able to run. He's already registered for a few half
marathons, so he'll walk those.

One thing you will find about exercise is that whether you enjoy it or not
isn't dependent upon the exercise, but on the attitude. Honestly. I used to
hate it too. I mean H A T E (and if you've even seen a few of my posts, you
know that now I'm a personal trainer and run marathons). What changed wasn't
my fitness or my choice of sports, it was my attitude.

Are you going to continue to journal?

2. Weigh in--week 6
Posted by: "Jennifer Brown" mazdalady9@yahoo.com mazdalady9
Date: Wed May 20, 2009 10:09 am ((PDT))

Down .6. So I didn't hit my goal today:-( Im .6 away. I was thinking about changing it. Once I hit that goal I need to maintain for 6 weeks. After 6 weeks I cant be 2 pounds above or below my goal weight then I become a lifetime member. I've been concerned about my belly and my leader reassured me today that I look great and I've done a great job. She said she still has some belly weight and she's lost 80 pounds. So Im still trucking along. I need all new clothes. None of mine fit. Hopefully I will do that this weekend at some point. I am going to decide at next week's weigh in if I want to change my goal. Im thinking about making my WW goal at 139. This is 2 pounds below the highest weight I can be according to the BMI chart. It all seemed so far away when I started on January 14th. Im so happy I've come this far.. going on 19 weeks with no gain.

Starting Weight--161.0
Current Weight--141.6
Total Loss--19.4 pounds
Goal Weight--141

Goal Before June 12th--Lose 7 pounds.--1.8 pounds away.

Yes, that's exactly how I felt when I started ww this time! I knew I had to
for my health. It wasn't just a vanity thing. I'm 59 and my knees were
hurting, I was having little subtle chest pains and I just didn't feel good
at all. I'm loving life too much right now to leave, so I had no choice but
to do something about it. I have a loving husband of 40 years, 3 wonderful
children and one sweet 8 year old granddaughter to live for! These are the
reasons I'm so committed to the plan this time. I've done it before but this
time I mean it for the rest of my life. Well, I'm happy to say I've been in
9 weeks, have lost 18 pounds and feel so much better already. My knees have
already stopped hurting and I'm gaining more energy. So hang in there,
Melanie, you can do it! Too bad we had to be scared into it, but whatever it
takes, right?

Hello To All,

I just started Weight Watchers last Tuesday. I actually can't start the diet
until we do our grocery shopping tomorrow. I am a Life Time member, but that
was over 30 years ago and now I have no choice, but to get in shape and be
healthy again. I just found out I have Type 2 diabetes today. Scared to
death, but over all am very healthy. My doctor says to go get diabetes
educated that is offered at the hospital and he will put me on a medication.
As long as I follow the rules it is exetremely manageable and can live a
long and healthy life.

I have 60 lbs to loose, I am 56 years very young. I just need to have some
encouragement from all of you wonderful folks out there in Weight Watcher
cyberland. I am in tears right now. I don't have very many friends and I
just told my husband at work and he is so worried too.

I know I can do this! I know I can get healthy. Thanks for any encouragement
you can give me.

Blessings,

Melanie in Colorado

Hi Melanie,

I agree with Deb. Don't be afraid. My dad was diagnosed with Type II
diabetes when he was 55. He saw a nurse practioner who specialized in
diabetes. She put him on a diabetic food plan and saw him each month. Within
two years of being diagnosed, he lost 50lbs, was off medication and his
numbers were normal. They stayed normal until he died a few years ago.

A little story of my own to show you how even losing 10% can change someone
s health. A year ago I had my yearly physical and my cholesterol was 280
(yikes, I know!). My doctor wanted to put me on medication and I said no. I
asked her to give me time to change things on my own. She agreed to a
recheck in 6 months. Shortly after that I joined weight watchers. Around the
time I achieved my 10% weight loss, I went back for a check up. My
cholesterol was down to 180. In six months I was able to make a huge
difference by excercising, losing weight and changing my diet.

It can be done. Hugs to you.

Abby

And if they don't...WHO CARES??? You're not doing it for THEM, MO :) You're doing it #1 for YOU, and then for your family (me :) to have you around longer. And we notice every time we hug you! There's less and less to hug. So don't worry about what "friends" say or don't say. Some of your "friends" may be jealous, so they don't WANT to say anything to would be positive. :)

I went shopping yesterday and I was a size smaller! I was really surprised because I didn't think I was there yet! It was so exciting I almost yelled in the dressing room! Weight Watchers works! Persistence, persistence, persistence!

I have a lot of belly fat! I do not think that losing it will make me lose weight. I have lost all the weight but still have the stomach. So it must not weigh too much alone! I don't know. Can anyone expound on that?

I feel the same way. If it weren't for my stomach, I would feel even better about my weight loss. Sometimes I don't feel like I lost the weight because of it!

Hello Everyone,

Im looking for some possible advice here. I set my goal weight at 141. Im

5'3 so 141 is at the very top of the BMI scale for healthy weight ranges. I

think I will be there tomorrow, but Im thinking about changing it. I still

have some belly fat that I really want to get rid of. During maintance you

cannot go 2 above or 2 below for 6 weeks. I think I will be below that cause

I really want to lose this belly fat. Does anyone else have the problem with

the belly area towards the end of your weight loss. I think I look great

besides that. Any advice???

have lost 10 lbs in 5 weeks but arrrgghhh

If you're working out this hard and not using your weekly allowance points,
you're hurting your metabolism. Your body needs the food for energy and if
you don't give it the fuel it needs, it will eat muscle. I know it sounds
weird, but you have to eat to lose when you work out this intensely.
