1a. Wendi's recipes for the week

I'm baaaaack!
I kinda' fell off the wagon for the last 6 weeks!!! I got down to 137lbs
back up to 140! Life around my house went nuts. Both my son's moved back
home for the summer, and it's kind of hard to feed to college boys the kind
of food we had been eating, and not own the grocery store. Anyway...I
rejoined WW online and started doing something called "dog days" in my town.
It is a summer program that is kickin' my booty! It is only a 1/2 hour but
we do calistenics and a lap around the track, then lunges across the
football field then up and down the stadium stairs, then push-ups, jummping
jacks, and donkey kicks. 3 more times with a little variation on the
football field........... I'm doing that 3-4 times a week. I better loose 5
pounds by the 19th of June or else!!! It is fun, but very hard for this 45
year old woman. But I'm not going to let the teenagers make me look too bad
.........Have a great week!

My name is Sue and I've been doing Weight Watchers on-line since August 30, 2008. To date I have lost 59 lbs. That sounds like such a big number, and yes it is. My community is too small to have a WW meeting, but another friend and I started losing weight using the on line program. We are sticking with it.

I no longer eat fried foods/nor sugared candy. I do treat myself daily to a WW Giant Fudge Bar. YUM.

I walk 10K steps a day. It is working for me and I am able to keep up the pace.

I look forward to listening to your advice on this forum.

I went with my daughter's fifth grade class as a chaperone. I thought they were pretty good about cutting away the cameras before the actual gross shots unlike alot I have seen on the discovery channel but man you were right about the bored part. I actually almost fell asleep. Even the teacher was disappointed. We're seeing the Night at the Museum movie here too. The first was one of our favorites. We are all looking forward to this one.

I took my six year old daughter to see Earth. I was so mad. I know the nature world is vicious & that animals eat each other. But in a G rated movie marketted to kids, I did not expect or want to see gazelles, baby elephants and walruses being torn apart & eaten in slow motion, nor did I want to see a whale leaping in the air with bits of a shark fin dangling out of its mouth, nor did I want to see papa polar bear lay down & die. My very hyper daughter was bored senseless by it & annoyed by me covering her eyes. And then she fell asleep.

My new movie strategy is to get the kiddy size combo. It has a decent portion of popcorn & doesn't require a bank loan. And I smuggle in another diet coke because the small drink isn't big enough. Movie popcorn/candy is another downfall of mine. We're probably going to the movies this weekend to see the museum movie... amy

anyway, popped my own ff popcorn @ home and brought my own parmesan/ red pepper flakes topping ~ bec there is no way i can go to see a movie w/o popcorn!

tonight we are going to pf chang's w/ friends ~ my husband and i are going to look @ their nutritional info online beforehand and figure out what we want to get so we know what we're going to have point wise ~ i haven't gone out much since i've been on WW so this will be an interesting experience!

i am looking to incorporate some weights into my routine ~ anyone have any recommendations on a tape/cd that uses free weights? nothing too hardcore ~

4a. lunch meetings- need some help/ideas

Hello all,

I am a lurker, but this last week was really tough and I need some advice.

I started a new job last week, and there are oodles of weekly meetings to attend and last week there were three! The first one was Monday, and they had Mexican food, beef enchiladas, beans, chips, salsa and fresh pico de gallo. The next meeting was Wednesday; baked bbq chicken, salad no dressing(yeah!), roasted potatoes & carrots, brownies for dessert. The final meeting was Friday- another Mexican lunch(my personal fav I might add); enchiladas again, rice, beans, chips, salsa and queso.

How can I get through these meetings, feeling satisfied but stay in my points???? The meeting Monday and Friday were all day trainings, so I could not leave to go get my own lunch.

I know that I have another all day training (staff retreat) coming up this Friday... any ideas of how to get through the day without jumping in the chips and salsa bowl? LOL

I made goal last weekend, and am currently up a pound, even though I ramped up my exercise this week for eating poorly. Phooey!

Thanks for any help!!!

Where I used to work, there was much griping & discussion on meals at these workshops.  The person in charge always ordered a deli tray as it was easy.  So after folks complained, things got changed.  There have to be other folks concerned about calories.  And usually the folks at work would be happy if somebody else took control & was in charge of lunch.  So you might make a polite suggestion of a lighter meal.  As much as everybody loves Mexican food, it's hard to fried beans & cheese friendly.  If all else fails, you might smuggle in your own baked chips & ff cheese.  Personally, after sitting all morning in a boring meeting, I would want to climb in the dip bowl, so it would be very hard to resist.  So I applaud your courage.  amy

Well of course you can stay within your points by eating correct portions or choosing filling foods. My aunt, who regularly had to attend teacher's workshops where lots of home-baked goodies lurked, had a reasonably method of staying within points.

The normal human body is pretty well full after roughly a cup to a cup and a half of food. And if you take reasonable bites, that equals a certain number of spoonfuls. next time you're at one of the meetings, take a good look at what is available and realize your normal meal probably has roughly 20 to 30 bites. Not heaping bites, just roughly a tablespoon.

Now check your selection out again - is there any way to make it more WW friendly? Take the skin off the baken chicken and select white meat. I scrape the cheese off enchiladas and tell myself the brownies have nuts in them - I hate nuts!

> any ideas of how to get through the day without jumping
> in the chips and salsa bowl?
Well even with the dismal choices, ultimately, it's you circling the chip bowl and reaching for another one. If you're stressed and eating out of stress, notice it, and pick up an annoying habit - maybe chewing a breath mint instead of chowing down. Just remember, you have only a finite number of bites - it's your choice, do you want to waste it on mediocre chips and salsa that you can eat any time?

Remember that if you make good choices most of the time, a few extra bites of a high point selection isn't going to make a difference. But a hundred extra bites will start to show up at the scale.

Holly,

There is no shame at all in brown bagging it. Just make sure you have a healthy and satisfying lunch with you so you don't feel deprived.

7. Good Evening All!

Good Evening all, Well sort of fell of the wagon for the last 2 weeks. Got some bruising from trying to hang on to it. Managed to eat healthy and work out but for some reason could not stop eating it seemed. I gained about 3lbs over the last two weeks. I am starting to really get into using the exercise programs on the Wii. I bought the EA active program last week and am doing the 30 day challenge (it is kicking my butt). I hope that this week will be a loss. It seems when I really started to workout more in the last two weeks that my appetite grew, thankfully it is stabilizing now.

Hope you all have a great evening.

Too funny and too true!

Dear Waist,
I know. It's been a long time since we've seen one other. Things were
certainly strained between us when you finally left for leaner pastures.
But I am not too proud to admit that I (and several articles of clothing
in my closet) still miss you, sometimes desperately.
Perhaps I should have seen the early warning signs when you were
slipping away from me, one belt loop at a time. With every extra bite of
brownie or serving of mashed potatoes, I must have been pushing you away
from me. But must we be like so many other modern relationships,
transient and shallow? Can we not begin again?
Admit it. We used to be a great team.
Thanks to you, I smugly cinched belts to a satisfying close, even
without having to mortify myself through torturous sit-ups five times a
week. At parties, you were an asset more valuable than a raconteur's
storehouse of witty repartee.
Do you remember my dazzling turquoise jumpsuit, worn to so many summer
soirees back in the days of Big Shoulders? Admiring males just about
spilled their beers when I sauntered by in brilliant blue on the way to
the buffet table. Back then, I was heedless of those vile four-letter
words, such as "carb" and "cake." Whenever I recall that jumpsuit,
wondering if I could ever fit into it again, I fight back tears while
the immortal words of Edgar Allen Poe echo darkly: "The sad answer,
'Never -– Nevermore.'"
Without you, I am left quietly waiting for a consultation in the women's
lingerie department, trying to select from a dizzying array of latex
body armor . Naturally, you won't be familiar with these inventions, all
variations on sausage casings. Even with a consult, it's not easy
choosing among mummifying garments such as the Lardy Liquidator, Adios
Adipose, the Endomorph Annihilator, the Tubby Torpedo, and the Roly-Poly
Rub Out.
These modern versions of chain mail are astonishing feats of
engineering. The U.S. military is snapping them up by the thousands, not
because our servicemen and women are plumping out, but because these
body huggers have built in missile defense capabilities. (Take that,
Vladimir!) But nothing is perfect. Because breathing is constricted with
some of these garments, especially the Extreme Titanium Torso Nipper,
oxygen tanks are a must-have accessory

Perhaps you'll think I've no right to complain about your abandonment.
Yet I believe firmly that small waists are wasted on the young. What
have these pampered pups done to deserve them? They squander their youth
rubbing tanning lotion over lean limbs and downloading music files onto
their MP3 players. I declare unapologetically that it's women like me
who have sacrificed our figures to gestate the next generation (or at
least a portion thereof), who deserve the Playtex payback. Drop waist
dresses be damned; I miss my belts! Must I spend eternity rolling around
on a stability ball before you'll give me another chance?
I am also haunted by the thought that my own recklessness drove you
away. Perhaps you would have remained faithful if only I had worshiped
at the Shrine of the Elliptical Trainer and Our Lady of the Perpetual
Rowing Machine at six o'clock in the morning.
This was my habit, in fact, until I read that sleep deprivation was
clearly linked in scientific studies with weight gain. Continuing with
this regimen would have been the very definition of reckless. I replaced
these outings to the gym with morning prayers, sometimes so fervent that
they must be aerobic. Yet results have not been visible to the naked
eye.
Besides, discipline only goes so far.
You show me any other descendant from the Russian Pale of Settlement who
doesn't thank God Almighty for the "relaxed fit jean" and I'll show you
a liposuction bill for ten thousand bucks. Maddeningly, some specimens
like this do exist, paragons of exercise and food discipline. It's bad
enough that they shame me by huffing along on the Stairmaster that I
vacated in order to catch some shut-eye. Worse, they take their kids out
for ice cream and just sit and watch, as if going for ice cream is a
spectator sport. When the dessert cart is waved in front of them, they
wave it right back as if swatting a mosquito. They gave up white flour
and chocolate by age 30. Well, I'd give up chocolate too, but I'm no
quitter.
I know that we can learn to be close again. Already, I'm counting carbs,
avoiding white sugar (at least once a day) and committing to four hours
a week of ab crunches on that blasted stability ball. Waist, if you
don't give me a second chance, you are dooming me to a life in the
Endomorph Annihilator (oxygen tank not included).
Do you really want this on your slim conscious?
I'll be waiting to hear from you. Meanwhile, you know where you can find
me: back at the gym, dancing my way back to you.

Hi everyone, I am a life time member of WW, but went haywire for a while and gained abot 10 kilos (I think about 2.2lb to a kilo?)
Well I went to a meeting two weeks ago and got back on track, it was great, we have a new plan here in Austrralia called the 'Satisfaction Plan' still counting points but aiming to eat more satisfying food, to keep you fuller longer.
Trouble is I don't feel hungry!I'm on 20 points, and feel I am eating plenty, wht do you guys think?
The points are all worked out from the WW book...
Breakfast
30 g natural musili 1 1/2 points
yogurt 1 p

Lunch
Toasted s/w
bread 2 p
cheese slice 1p
tomato
1tsp marge 1/2

Dinner
Steak, grilled 5p
free salad
low fat fetta 1p
potato 1p
white wine 2
Free dressing

before bed hot skim milk 1 1/2p

Thats 16 1/2 points, some times it is only 14 points in a day, I also walk the dogs for about 30 min every day.

I lost 1.8 kilos on my first weigh in... I was stoked!
Looking fwd to Thursday evening this weeks weigh in... I just want to be carefull though, because I remember one particular week last year when I did absolutley every thing to lose weight ... gym every day, walked dogs, kept points low etc... BIG disappointment at weigh in, you could have knocked me down with a feather... did not lose a scrap!
My group leader went over my food/ exercise diary and told me I was not eating enough! My body was protecting it's self and was in starvation mode!
I'm thinking I should add some avocado to my salad and fruit to my b/fast ...
Any way wanted to say Hi to everyone, I have been a member for a while, and just wanted to let you know that I am very motivated to stick to the food plan after seeing myself from all sides in a fitting room mirror!!!!
Linda

56 yrs
170cm tall
80.2 kilos on joining WW
Lost 1.8 Kilos
