Judy -
I use both white and brown Splenda/sugar mixes in my baking, and then I don't eat much of them, but if I eat something 'normal', then I get a reaction. I had a miniscule slice of cheesecake yesterday at my mother's house, about a Tablespoonful, and I had to lie down for 5 minutes afterwards until I felt better.

OUCH....that had to have been rough. I am dealing more right now with
lows. Lows like down in the 30's. I don't know I am low until I am below 25
and then I'm really in trouble. I am hope that once I can eat again (I'm
on pure liquids until the surgery) the diabetes will be easier to control.
I also have the insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor. That helps
some. I have not tried the splenda brown.
PRAISE God for the Roses. THANK God for the thorns.

That is the part that scares me the most with this surgery. My doctor told me that it would "cure" the diabetes, but he had no answer for the lows. I was low for years before I changed over to high and that only happened after I couldn't have artificial sweetners for years and had to go to sugar. I'm worried that once I revert, so will my low blood sugar, and your right, it's a terrible feeling and there really isn't much you can do about it.

I am 3 yrs post op. I do not drink OJ (haven't tried) esp cause of the diabetes but yes, eventually you'll be able to eat most anything other than extremely sweet things, like frosted cake or very dense things, like an overcooked chicken breast. In the beginning you'll miss everything and feel sad but as time goes by, you'll eat more and more of your usual foods. Your blood sugar won't vary as much because you'll be eating much more healthy. Good luck. :)

About half. It's not easy and I am very bad about working out. If I had the surgery when I was younger (I'm now 57) I think I would have been better, plus I didn't have a huge amount to lose. I was a borderline patient, less than 100 lbs to lose at the start. I was discouraged because so much of my skin didn't tighten up and I would have needed a good deal of plastic surgery to eliminate it. I keep trying though! I do not regret the surgery one bit.

Good luck. :)

You are so right. It scares me too. What I want to know is how will I
treat the lows. Now I can drink O.J. or eat some carbs, will I be able to do
that post op?

You're welcome! Nothing to be scared of, but you do have to be emotionally prepared for the lifestyle change. Be prepared not to use food as a crutch, that is. I had absolutely no complications because, a) I was lucky and b) I followed the guidelines post-op to a T.
Good luck!

OUCH....that had to have been rough. I am dealing more right now with
lows. Lows like down in the 30's. I don't know I am low until I am below
25
and then I'm really in trouble. I am hope that once I can eat again (I'm
on pure liquids until the surgery) the diabetes will be easier to control.
I also have the insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor. That helps
some. I have not tried the splenda brown.

I plan on doing the same thing. Due to Gastroperasis I have been on a
liquid diet since December 0-8. so I am used to not using food. AND I am
soooooo looking forward to no more pain/nausea. They are going to remove the
remainder of my stomach left after the bypass is created. I have had pain
for the last 3+ years.
PRAISE God for the Roses. THANK God for the thorns.
