I had my surgery Dec 7, 1999. I lost 154 pounds in 10 months (288 to 134) and though I've gained back about 15 since, I do use the surgery to get back on track. I still can't eat a whole bunch, which is the only thing that helps me. I also dump if I eat too many carbs or sugar, so that's a Godsend for me. I know that it was after the 2 years mark I started having to "use" my surgery as a tool. It was a lot more effortless before. Since I didn't have surgery on my brain, I still want all the junk that I did before, its just I pay for it if I eat it, or I gain weight and have to re-adjust what I eat. I went vegetarian almost a year ago and its a little harder for me to get the protein I need since its all carb related but I figure I'll get the hang of it eventually. Even when you're an old timer like me, the surgery can still help.

That's a very old surgery. I remember wanting this surgery in 1999 but I
was not granted it by the insurance companies until this March 2009. OMG the
wait has ruined my body, the Diabetes and organs ruined by it and my muscles
have stiffened and lost their spring-y step.
But you people are a wealth of information. I want mine to work and
everyone's to work as long as yours does.
What is your secret for getting back on track?
How long did your pouch stay at 2oz? 4oz or 6 oz?
Losing 150+ in just 10 months is a big wow. I went to my doctor and
nutritionist yesterday and they said that they wanted me to loose another 50 lbs in
the next 3 months. I looked at them like, is that possible?
I had lost 50 already in the first 3 months.
But I see from what you are saying, that this is quite possible and so now
I dont feel as weird about thinking it. Yes, it hit me as weird because
before, this never would be possible in "my life" or any woman's life.
We just are not made that way.
Those miracle doctors! And you say, "we can do it"!
Wonderful!

Hi Joanne,
The band eroded into the top portion of my . If I remember correctly, it did not involve my esophagus at all. According to my surgeon, it was a random if unfortunate, rather rare complication.
