Lots of luck, Charlotte, with your surgery and recovery. I look forward to hearing how it went and how you're feeling. Listn to the docs and you'll do great! I never had one problem post-op and I'm over 4 yrs out.
Sheila

Subject: [After Weight Loss Surgery] Introduction - New Memeber
Hi, my name is Charlotte. I'm 31 and from Indiana.
I'm a notorius lurker....sorry!
I'm actually having my RNY tomorrow (6/16/09). Have a wonderful, supporting husband who has taken tomorrow off to be with me before and after.
I joined this group because, even though my husband is VERY supportive, I know there may be issues after surgery...that he just won't understand. He's rail thin and always has been. I can cry on his shoulder, but he's never been where I am, nor where I'm going. So I will need people like yourselves, who get it, and can give me feedback that I can use.
Will be sure to post when I get home, to let you all know.
Charlotte

Greetings all.
I live in Pflugerville, TX which is just to the city to the immediate north of Austin with my wife and our son Jerry. My family and I moved here in 2000 from California.
I had my WLS (Gastric RNY) in March of 2005.I had attempted to get approved in 2003 how-ever the insurance company I had at the time denied my request twice. I starting weight was 417 pounds before surgery was approved, and 367 the day of surgery. I had my surgery here in Austin, TX at St.Davids Hospital, the surgeon was Dr. Patrick Dillawn. I would recommend him to anyone !!
Currently I am maintaining a weight of 215 - 220 pounds. I have had a hernia repair done on my surgery site ( Doc's first in 300 RNY's ) and recently in April 09 had my gallbladder removed.
I currently struggle with low energy, and have low iron levels.
Has anyone else had this issue ?
If so have you had blood-work done to confirm it ?
What was the plan you worked out with your doctor and is it helping ?
My daily diet is made up of almost 80% freshly prepared foods. I rarely eat red meats, and take vitamin supplements as well. I still have dumping feelings if I eat fried, rich or high fat foods. I feel I am lucky to have my tool still working in that way.
So that's me and I'm sure more will come out as we discuss ourselves on the forum.
Thanks for your time.

I know where Pflugerville, TX is!! I use to live in Wellsbranch! I am very familiar with St. David's as I had one of my daughter's in that hospital. I had my surgery on March 29,2009. I was really worried about having the surgery before I actually had it.
My sister brought it to my attention that our dad had died that same date but 4 years earlier. I thought wow.. what encouraging words! ONLY NOT!
The day of my surgery I weighed 304 and now I weigh 270. I still have a long ways to go. But I am getting there one day and one pound at a time!
It seems like the first few days are the worst!
I tried to walk every day for 30 minutes however, I have really bad arthitis so that did not work for me. I enjoyed LifeTime fitness club. Now I swim 4 laps a day.
My insurance was approved because of all the health problems I have.
I hope to lose a lot more. I know that Rome was not built in a day, and i will not lose in a day.
Thanks for your time.

Hello!
My name is Amy Jacobs, I am a new member here to this group; I have been reading your posts for the last few days and all I can say is "what an amazing group of wonder heart warming people" I am exactly 2 weeks post op minus a few hours today! I had the SLEEVE procedure and It has been quite a change (who said it wouldn't be) before my surgery I did some meditation and energy work on getting prepared for surgery and how i couldn't eat this or that anymore and that I would never be able to OVER eat AGAIN, which has been cool because I have been around all sorts of yummies and it hasent bothered me at all!
(I even baked my famous home made cookies for my son (for camp) for 5 freeking hours- oh my goodness they looked so GOOD, YET it didn't bother me at all and I would usually stand their shoving one ball of dough into my mouth as i put the other ball on the cookie plate to be baked AND this time I just smiled and didn't have a dropp- yes, i know that was crazy)
Anyhow, today is a huge day as I get to go to soft and smooth foods, I am a bit nervous- thinking that the old way will creep up and i will have more than allowed, yet my tummy will only hold 4oz. Did anyone ever experience this? I know that this is a life change, And I can do it... I'm just nervous! It's like now the REAL Journey begins~ :-) Yea! I have lost 15lbs in 2 weeks, which is EXCITING and have 100 lb to go! I guess that I get to put my big girl panties on and write everything down so that I am on track daily. Today I started out with Isopure shake with a whopping 50g of Protien. Now I know that the rest of the day will go smooth getting my "soft" protiens in. As for Energy, how long did it take to get yours back, as I can only go in 2-3 hour incriments then I am wiped out again. Yet tired & exhausted. I started walking and up to 1 mile (as the dog likes to go) I want to try to do this twice a day; however I run a concierge company here in Dallas and I get to constantly be on my feet all day anyway, so I am still getting the distance.
Wow, this is so much; just wanted to share my story/ joy/ accomplishments! Thanks for reading and any ideas on how you made it when you got past the two week marker would be encouraging!!
Warmest Regards,
Amy

in my experience, I became a 'born again healthy person'. My ex-spouse was not interested in exercising, or losing any weight. He wanted the status quo to remain the same, that is, a nice 'safe' wife who didn't rock the lifestyle boat. When I lost weight and started dressing in a stylish, if not sexy manner, he protested by being verbally abusive and avoiding me, when he wasn't trying to sabotage my diet. He started drinking more (he already had a drinking problem). In short, he couldn't deal with the new me, and we grew apart, and finally, I gave up and left (but not until after 24 marriage counselling sessions).
