Heidi,
I am so very proud of you. I just started doing 5Ks this spring (having a blast), but I would NEVER have attempted one when I still had 80 pounds to lose. You are courageous and an inspiration. You should take pride in the fact that you attempted and completed it and you did it in less than an hour. I am confident that what happened to discourage you in this race will not be a problem again. Just keep up the walking, increasing your walking speed. Eventually you will feel the real need to jog because because you just can't walk any faster and you want to. Now you have a baseline -- 51 minutes. The next time you go you'll be a better prepared physically and mentally and it will be easier to get finished in less time.
I have found that the first 1/2 mile to mile of the race makes me afraid -- I feel like I can't do this, who am I trying to kid. . . but then I remember that I have done it before so I KNOW I can do it. Now YOU KNOW that you have done it before. You have completed a 5K. So when you go out again you can be confident that YOU CAN DO IT.
Great job for getting out of bed and doing it.
Great job for not chickening out before you even started.
Great job for sticking with it all the way to the bitter end.
Great job for figuring out what you did that set you back.
Great job for figuring out how to do it better next time.
Great job for saying there will be a next time.
Way to go Heidi!! Awesome!

Heidi, I rarely post, but was so inspired by your story!! Congratulations on participating and finishing your first 5k. I also have 80 pounds to lose, and have been walking for exercise. I've been toying with the idea of signing up for some 5k's to put some pressure on me.
What most caught my attention was that after all of what you said....you used the words "next time" !! Even after the slow finish, the hurt shin....you said "next time". That's motivation, and I know you're going to finish the weight loss race.....and you've motivated me to stay positive about mine!!!
Thanks,
Tari

I know exactly how you feel about the Wii Fit taking so long to workout. I
very quickly got board although my 20yo daughter still loves it. I got the
My Fitness Coach for Mother's Day and I love it! It is not games, much more
like a trainer putting you through your paces. I am getting stronger. You
don't need the Wii board but occasionally have to use the controller to
answer questions about how hard you are working. It tailors the work outs
to fit your fitness.

Nancy here - I've been no-mail - and "off" program - etc - ok so it's a new
day.
I have questions about the wii fit - I know back around Christmas there was
a lot of talk about it - but we didn't have it -
We bought it a little over a month ago - I have read some reviews from
people on w/m website - but wanted "YOUR" opinion. The good and the bad.
I have a question I didn't see answered in the messages (I've read tons of
them)
Is there any way to have a workout w/o all the messages, scores, etc that
take up so much time? Tory - did you make a workout for it??? I thought I
remember something about it
I found some posts talking about the wii fit coach. I youtubed it - and I
didn't "see" the board - do you use the board with it? Do you use the
remotes? Is it interactive with the wii fit?
I'm kindof frustrated that it takes 1.5 hours to do an hour workout.
TIA
Nancy

I love the EA Acitve! It's a great workout and you use resistasnce bands, a
leg strap that monitors your movements and the fit board. Love this. I still
love my fitness coach too!

5a. New to Group!
Posted by: "Anne" gabenmom@yahoo.com gabenmom
Date: Mon Jun 8, 2009 9:10 am ((PDT))
Hello everyone! My name is Anne and I'm new to the challenge. Just thought I'd post a little about me so we can get to know each other. I'm 32 years old, married to a great guy for almost 8 years, live between Baltimore and Annapolis in MD, work part-time as a police dispatcher, and I'm a homeschool mom of 4 little ones-- 3 boys, ages 5, 4, and 10 months, and one girl, just turned 2.
I've been on the journey to living a healthy lifestyle since before I got pregnant with my oldest child. My highest weight was somewhere over 260, and now I'm stuck at 225+/-. I was doing well with my weight loss until I got pregnant with my daughter. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroid disorder, then had gestational diabetes, and now post-partum depression. I've always been a cheerful, positive, outgoing person, but since I had my daughter, I have not felt like myself. I never feel well, I'm always exhausted, I have no energy, I don't sleep well, I'm cranky, irritable, negative, etc., etc. The possibility of depression never even occurred to me because to me, my symptoms are physical and I have a happy life, so I have no reason to be depressed about anything. So I've been hounding my doctor to find something wrong with me, but everything we've tried has come back negative. My husband finally convinced me to consider depression (it runs in his family, so he knows) and when I researched it online, I felt like I was reading a description of myself. So I have an appt next week so I can discuss the options with my dr. I'm sincerely hoping that getting a grip on this will stop my constant sugar cravings and give me enough energy to get through my day and exercise too.
So, anyway... I'm sure that's way too much information for a first date! lol What else about me...? I started my own online weight loss challenges back in 2005 (or was it '06?) Our last few members are still hanging in there together, but I don't have the extra time I did back when I started them to devote to running the challenges. So I'm excited to have found this group and I'm looking forward to making new friends and offering my support and knowledge along this journey. I will probably hang back a bit to get a feel for how this group works. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be doing yet!
Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Welcome to the group Anne!
I want to tell you that from personal experience, exercise, eating right and
taking Omega 3's will help depression A LOT! I would try all of that before
I went on any medication - they have their own set of side effects!
Anyway - welcome!

I love this system however I am having difficulty getting the nunchek recognized. Does the button part of the nunchek go head down into the leg strap? None of my squats and lunges were registering.
Thanx

Yes the nunchek button goes head down. However I also cannot get my squats
to register. I have tried moving it all the way up my leg and that did not
help. Next time I am going to try to move it down further by my knee and see
if that helps. I have found you just need to stay real steel in the lunge
and after the lunge the get it to say you have done it right. I also love
the program and feel like it is quite a good work out.

Hi Ladies,
I am going to finally try my EA Active tonight. I haven't had a minute to
try it since I got it on its release date, although I did try on that leg
thing and it kept falling down. What are you ladies wearing so that it's
not an issue? I tried it on my bare leg and I'm thinking that I don't
really have any very tight-fitting work-out pants....Maybe I need to get a
pair?
Thanks for your help.

I wear my regular workout pants and have no problems. Try adjusting the
strap a bit to see if that helps.
Blessings,

Thanks to both of you. I really only tried it for 2.5 seconds so I will
give it a chance on my bare leg and then try a pair of pseudo sweatpants
that I have.
I'll report back tomorrow!

I love my WiFit which is really great when combined with some other cardiovascular program like walking, cycling, etc. The hulahoop really tones the abs - who would have thought?!
I just purchased a WiActive and can't wait to get started on that.
Have fun all!

7. Checking-In

Hi All-
Just checking-in. I had a rough weekdn again. Ugh!
My food has been good today. I decided to pack and bring my breakfast to work to eat at 8 am rather than eating at home at 6:30.
First- it helps me to not be so hungry all day.
Second- my company gives us breakfast on Mondays (nice!), but, it is rarely ever healthy. Even the egg whites are loaded with oil.
So, I happily ate what I brought and am now just starting to think about the yummy sandwich I brought for lunch!
My best-
kristal

I cannot compete with those situps. Yikes. But I will do 100-150 with the ab lounger (easy city).
Today did 2 classes, Body Pump and Body Vive. Also, inquired regarding a personal trainer so I can work on my 'core'.
