omgosh i did the 5 day pouch test and its like ive been reborn! It wasnt easy, but now im feeling like right after i had surgery. im down the 7 pounds and probably more...i dont weight but once a week...!!! the appetite is gone...I think getting away from the carbs and doing notthing but 4 oz ( or 1 cup) of protein 4 2 days...soft for 2 days, then back to 4oz of hard protein helped!!!! also it helped me get back to the rules...no drinking 30 before and waiting 30 after has made all the difference. Just take it from someone who has been there done that..........DONT STOP THE RULES...KEEP ON TRACK..THE HONEYMOON ENDS! BUT YOU CAN GET IT BACK... RNY 6/7/2006 310-189 DOWN 7 TO 183!!! 9 RULE WAGON
Ok what is the 9 rule thing about? Can you share what the 9 rules are?
I am presently doing the pouch test. I am only 3 ms out and weight gain has
started. I thought that this was supposed to be the honeymoon period?
Apparently my body thinks that the less that I eat the more it wants to store
fat...all over again. Boy it sure felt good to loose for those few mos. All I
do is excersize and the fact is when I was not excersizing because of the
pain of the surgery, I lost much more weight and faster.
Now that I really put the time into doing it I gain.
Also, I eat once a day, very minimal and I have gained 6 pounds.
I am trying the pouch test.
Liquids first two days including protein powder and soup broths.
Next two, very chopped up soft foods and liquids
next two chopped up soft foods progressively a bit more solid.
I have come down 3 pounds but today after changing over to 3 day, gained
one pound. UGH!
My body is so hard.
peace,lee

Still sounds like you have done wonderful Ellie.
I feel as though I have feel off the wagon also and I am only almost 15 months out. Fighting a 15 lb weight gain, but also quit smoking 3 months ago. It's so hard.
The pouch test really works, as long as you stick to it after it's over. it's easy to fall back into the rut... I need to get my mind focused and start it also.

I think day 1 thru 2/3 is all liquids. I stayed on a lot longer. It helped so much even felt better. I'm having a hard time giving up my 12 grain bread or whole wheat.
The end, stay on chicken? Proteins I assume. Are you going to start it?

Day one through three would be okay but I've become a pectarian (some fish and I'll eat eggs or cheese but no beef, lamb, pork or chicken) so I'm not sure what to do for day 4 and 5. Tofu maybe? I find it a little hard to keep up on my protein but at least I don't feel as much guilt so its worth it to me. I eat nuts though, maybe they would work? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Do you have the soup on the first two days or what exactly do you have besides the protein. I love split pea soup and I think that is listed on there.

This week i have been off it....but im headed to Duck Creek this weekend and plan to go back on it Monday...I felt great on it and the weight has stayed off (7 pounds) amazing thing!!! I will say its totally kinda put me back in the "right after surgery" mode...I cant even digest eggs just like after surgery...strange...Anyway it works and its a nice feeling to be in control again.!!!!! I just know The rest of my life im gonna have to follow the rules set up for us Bypass patients....It took me gaining these 10 pounds to realise im always gonna be "different" in my eating habits and the way i think about food! REMEMBER WE HAVE THE TOOL...IF YOU CAN GO BACK TO THE BEGINNING AND FOLLOW THE NINE RULES...IM ONE WHO CAN TELL YOU ITS WORKS! ALSO I HEARD OF A "5 DAY POUCH TEST" JUST WHEN YOU THINK YOUR NEW TOOL ISNT WORKING...ITS AMAZING HOW THE TEST YOU FOLLOW FOR 5 DAYS SURE PUTS EVERYTHING BACK IN PERSPECTIVE! I FAITHFULLY FOLLOWED THE EATING PLAN AND IM NOW DOWN 7 ( OR MORE..I ONLY WEIGHT 1 TIME A WEEK) AND I FEEL REBORN...LIKE IVE JUST HAD SURGERY. I WILL TELL YOU YOU NEED SUPPORT..MORE THAN JUST HERE. IVE COME TO THE CONCLUSION IM A FOOD ADDICT AND ALWAYS WILL BE. THE FUNNY THING IS EVERYONE THINKS ITS GONNA BE A PIECE OF CAKE...WELL DURING THE HONEYMOON PERIOD WHEN THE WEIGHT IS FALLING OFF...IT IS! BUT LIFE COMES BACK, AND NEWNESS WEARS OFF...ITS TOUGH!!!!
PEOPLE DONT HAVE TO DO DRUGS TO LIVE, BUT WE HAVE TO DEAL WITH FOOD EVERYDAY AND ITS NOT ALWAYS EASY TO MAKE THE RIGHT DESISIONS. I WILL TELL YOU I WAS AS DESPRATE AS YOU ARE AND WENT TO WEIGHT WATCHERS....REMEMBER WE CANT EAT LIKE A "WEIGHT WATCHER" WE ARE SUPPOSED TO HAVE 3 MEALS OF 4 OUNCES A DAY. I DID THE WW THING AND I GOT SO CONFUSED...THEY TEACH TOTALLY OPPOSITE WHAT WE HAVE LEARNED WITH THIS SURGERY. I GAINED 2 MORE POUNDS....<SIGH>
WELL ANYWAY WITH THIS RAMBLING HOPE IVE GIVEN YOU A BIT OF PEACE..KMOWING YOUR NOT ALONE. WE ALL HAVE ISSUES, AND THE FACT WE ARE MORE AWARE OF THINGS IS A GOOD THING....DONT PUNISH YOURSELF AND GET BACK ON TRACT! LIKE I DO....ONE DAY AT A TIME. WE HAVE THE TOOL!!!!!
HAVE A BLESSED DAY...AND IF YOUR INTERESTED I CAN SEND YOU THE LINK TO THE SIGHT WITH THE "5 DAY PLAN" IT DOES WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Everyone,
I really could use some tips on how to get back on track and lose 20 pounds. I was 230 after surgery down to 168. That was my lowest. Now Im back up to 185. I exercise 2 hrs a day 3-4 times a week. In great physical condition but wearing a very tight 12.
I can eat bascially anything I want. Im so frustrated.
Do you have any ideas on how I can diet or do you have a book for pts that gives tips on how to get back in control.
I've joined weight watchers and thus far just maintaining. Im very embarrassed but desperate.
Thank you very much!

3a. Weight loss plateau
Posted by: "lisar320" lisar908@comcast.net lisar320
Date: Wed Jul 15, 2009 1:29 pm ((PDT))
Hello friends,
I had a new, non-invasive type of weight loss surgery on 3/25/09. To date, I am stuck at a weight loss plateau for 3 weeks. (more about my procedure later, right now I could use your insight and experience).
I lost 38-39 lbs (depending on how I stand on my scale) to date. When I stopped losing, I increased my exercise from 30-45 minutes and nothing changed. I seem to be 'Playing' with the same 3-4 lbs each week. I try not to weigh myself too often however I do anyway. I read all the posts about "tiger hunger" and I agree with all of you. I also read the pouch rules for dummies. That was a very informative article, thanks!
Does anyone have any suggestions how to get my weight loss going again? I did read about a few members who went back to 2/3 days of liquids, following by 1/2 days of soft foods and then "regular" foods. I try to eat a high protein, low fat diet. The dietician in my study told me I was eating too many carbs at 30 days out so I try to watch the carbs also. What do any of you suggest?
Thank you ALL for your posts they are informative and supportive. My weight loss procedure is called TOGA - transoral grastroplasty. They put me out, went down my esophogus with a new instrument (TOGA) & created a pouch that holds 4-5 ozs of food at the top of my stomach then stapled it. There is a small hole that empties into the rest of my stomach. I'm pretty sure it's just like the lapband or stapled pouch procedure. I am part of a clinical trial to determine if this new device will help people lose weight. There were no laproscopic or surgical cuts and I was only in the hospital over night. I was on liquids for 1.5 to 2 weeks, soft foods for 1 wk and then on to regular foods. I have been clean & sober for 21 years and I know I eat compulsively. I am using the discipline of 21 years of sobriety to help me through the "head hunger" times and most of the time it works.
Your help and sharing your experience will be very helpful.
Thanks.

Thanks.

Hi Lisa,
Just one question, are you sure you had the procedure done or are you part of the control subject. The reason I'm asking is because I was also part of the study but after several weeks I knew I did not get the procedure. It was quite obvious to me, I decided to opt out the study since I could not continue in the study. Right now I just got approved for any and hope to have it in Aug. My best wishes on your journey. Remember the TOGA is still a study! 1 out of 3 patient will not get the procedure until 1 year later if you still qualify.
