@Lisa:
If your procedure is so cutting edge, I'd think your surgeon should take more interest in your progress. Have you consulted your surgeon about your plateau issue?

I also read the pouch rules for dummies. That was a very informative article, thanks!

The dietician in my study told me I was eating too many carbs at 30 days out so I try to watch the carbs also. What do any of you suggest?

They put me out, went down my esophogus with a new instrument (TOGA) & created a pouch that holds 4-5 ozs of food at the top of my stomach then stapled it. There is a small hole that empties into the rest of my stomach. I'm pretty sure it's just like the lapband or stapled pouch procedure. I am part of a clinical trial to determine if this new device will help people lose weight. There were no laproscopic or surgical cuts and I was only in the hospital over night. I was on liquids for 1.5 to 2 weeks, soft foods for 1 wk and then on to regular foods. I have been clean & sober for 21 years and I know I eat compulsively. I am using the discipline of 21 years of sobriety to help me through the "head hunger" times and most of the time it works.

Vic,
I spent 1/2 hour on the phone with the dietician in our study last week. She sent me information on weight loss plateaus and helped me understand what I needed to do.
The study has a very defined follow-up program: After surgery: 1 day, 30 days, 4 wks, 3, 6, 9 & 12 months. I was only in the hospital overnight and I met with the surgeon on Day 1. Since then I meet with one of his interns during each follow-up visit. I've called and spoken to my surgeon a few times since I had surgery and he actually called me back. One of the reasons I did this clinical trial was because of the follow-up program.
FYI, my weight loss plateau is over for now. I weighed myself this morning and I am at 219. During the past few weeks, I've been gaining & losing the same 2-4 lbs. I'm on day 3 of the 5 day pouch test.
Since I lost weight, I think I've either been eating too much food or eating too many carbs. (I get full rather quickly and I eat 3-4 small meals per day plus 2 snacks. I was eating snacks too late at night and I stopped when I started the 5 day pouch test. The only other timem I lost weight this quickly was when I was on a liquid diet. That was the 1st 2 weeks after my surgery. I lost 1-2 lbs per day because I went from eating huge meals and snacks to a liquid diet.
Thanks to all for your help!

I have heard of this new procedure. How do you feel with it?
My surgeon is about ready to start another new procedure. Another
noninvasive WLS where he will be doing the full RNY through the belly button and then
closing it up to where you cant see any incision. This is all good because
as long as they are working on WLS, we all have a better chance of remaining
thin because the insurance companies might begin to see this as routine
surgery for the cure of some serious diseases.
peace, Lee
