I am scheduled to have gastric bypass on august 31st and i would like to know what kind of protien shakes are the best> How many grams of protein am I looking for? Where does eveyone get them? Are they expensive? I wouls like to start stocking up but I havne discussed them with my doctor yet. I thought that you guys would know best!!!

I was also wondering what the adverage of weight loss that people lost within the 4 months?? Just curious at what I am looking at for Christmas time...lol I know that you loose a big bulk of it quickly in the begining and them taper off. Just curious for my own personal ideas.

One more...lol What was everyones re-coupe time frame. I probably will just be having it done laperscopic. I have had laperscopic surgery before and I think I know whats involved but with everything they are doing in the stomach region I just want to plan everything perfectly.

Thanks for all your help!!!
Cant wait to share my weight loss stories with all of you...

When I had my surgery in 2004, I used Unjury protein. http://www.unjury.com/

At that time, they were the best on the market. I cannot speak for the present.

The amount needed will depend on quite a few things. Current weight, height, sex, age, the list goes on.

I was required 110g per day.

Average weight loss is yet another tricky topic. Again, several variables come into play here as well.

Although I'm not sure of any medical research to back this claim up, but in my experience, men seem to lose weight faster than women.

Age,BMI, activity are just a few more items that need to be taken into consideration.

In my case, I lost most of my weight in the first 4 months, then the losses slowed.

Recuperation time for me was two weeks away from work. I could have returned after one week, but took the extra week to help retrain myself.

So it seems that all of my responses are vague, due to the individuality factor. And because I couldn't give more of an exact answer, I apologize.

Good luck in your journey,

George

Hi The protein shake I use is Syntrax Nectar it has 22 grams per 8oz shake. If you mix it with milk that adds more protein. I still cant drink milk after my surgery. (May 26, 2009) so I mix it with water and ice. I add bene protein and carnation instant breakfast for a total of 32 grams of protein per shake. My doctor recommends 60 or more grams a day so if I drink two I'm good. I still don't have much of an appetite so this works well. They taste great!!!!!

My first appt with the doctors was on 2/25/09 I weighed 233, I went back on 5/19/09 pre-surgery appt. weighing 223. I had to show a weight loss or my doctor could have cancelled my surgery. Today 7/27/09 I weigh 184. So I went from a size 20 to a size 14 in about 3 months! Its unbelievable. I know I'm in the so called Honeymoon phase and the real struggle is coming but I'm enjoying the ride.

My recovery from pain was 3 weeks, energy level did not come back until 5 weeks. Good luck and keep us posted. Sara

I am currently 513 lbs and 5'4 (female). I noticed a lot of you on here are in the 200-300 lb range going into surgery. I was wondering if any of you are/were around the same size as me at the time of your surgery. I decided on bpd w/ ds as that was what was recommended for someone my size on the net and Medicare covers it. I am waiting to see if I can get transportation to a doctor out of town so I can see what they think about it.

I was able to eat up until the day before, when I had to "cleanse"
myself...so I wouldn't worry too much, you still should be honest if the
surgeon asks, but I wouldn't think it's that big of a deal...good luck
tomorrow!!! :)

Hi everyone,I have been a member now for a long time but never posted. I have noticed lately that I feel out of control with me eating habits. I am 26 months out from surgery and was wondering if anyone else went through eating everything and anything, even if you were;nt hungry or you knew you would'nt feel well afterwards. Any suggestions, I worried.

  1. This is an interesting post. It can be taken regularly along with plenty of fruits and vegetables. But the effects can be observed over a long period of time. It is pointless to expect the results to be obvious within a few days of taking the drug. The best thing about loss weight are that it makes fat-loss a completely natural process.
