Wait, you mean you're talking about the scale staying the same for two weeks? Or increasing by half a pound? I recall during one of my weight watcher's meetings someone met goal and bragged that they had never once seen the scale go up. The next meeting, we were lectured about how to handle disappointments - so think very lnog and hard - at some point in time, the scale will always remain the same - or increase a little. You may be worknig out hard, planning meals, carefully choosing when you eat out and STILL it seems liek a struggle.

Honestly, there are times I think it's a lot of hard work put into loosing or maintaining weight. But then I remind myself that some people seem to do it effortlessly - those naturally thin people - but I also like to balance my check book and do math problems in my head - we all have our skills - I ended up with the checkbook instead of eating waht I want to.

I know, you'll get the "eat more" - but WW doesn't say that. Go to the WW web site and put "the starvation myth" into the search engine and find out what WW has to say. In fact, the last time this came up, I went back through all my literature, through the exchanges and conversion to points. When we are given points, the literature says to eat all our daily points - but says the weekly and activity points are options - they were even called "optional calories" in the old days of exchanges.

Check some exercise sites and check what they have to say about running and trying to lose a little weight or rowing or cycling and wanting to lose some weight - check out the Cooper Aerobics Center on what they have to say.

Be careful that you don't take a solution that seems attractive - the scale hasn't budged for two weeks and they told me to eat more!!! Just what I wanted to hear!!! I'm above my goal weight and they told me to eat more - is this the way you want to solve problems?

What does WW say about it?
- Maybe you've gotten a little comfortable with your program - you have regular breakfast, lunch, dinner, your snacks. Remember why you're on program - this is not a weekly contest - this is a lifetime you're preparing here. Try a new recipe - heck, eat your cereal or eggs for supper and plan a larger breakfast - eat more fruits and veggetables - add a jog around the block before every meal.

- It's probably significant that you're at about week 7 - let's look at your weight loss - remember that the frist weight you lose is gonig to be some water weight. Feels great to see that number go down. About one-quarter of the weight you lose is actually lean tissue. Lean-tissue loss means you burn fewer calories. So for 10 pounds weight loss, you've lost about two pounds of muscle. So now is the time to think long and hard about your fitness. And 10 pounds over two weeks is perfectly respectable as a loss.

- I found it really helpful to have solid numbers for my body. There's cardio and there's strength. How many push-ups can you do? Can you do pull-ups on playground equipment or gym equipment? How many? How many situps in one minute? How long can you wall sit - back against a wall and knees bent to 90 degrees like in a chair? How fast is your 100 yard dash? And how fast is your one mile? Have you checked out "average" for your age for these activities?

You say you've been exercising regularly - treadmill and swimming - what do you consider regular? Do you have heart rate monitor and are you correctly recording activity for level? How long are you on the treadmill? What pace? You can have modest improvements in two weeks but most programs for improving either strength or cardiovascular endurance are longer. Ideally, you might want to check you're VO2 max and try to improve that.

So 1. Increase your physical activity.
2. Eat on program and weigh and measure your portions - even those you snack on at night.
3. Aim for one more fruit and one more vegetable a day.
4. Try a new recipe or try cycling or rowing - even wall climbing.
5. Get busy - check into group classes like volleyball or basketball, even soccer, ones that require regular movement and committment.

> I thought exercising would help me.

It absolutely will but I think you're expecting too much after only two weeks of exercising. I also note that you didn't mention any strength work - if you're losing lean muscle, you need to help to rebuild it - plus a higher muscle mass means a higher metabolism - the reason guys always lose faster. Check into the C25K program for a 5K - walking or running - set goals in fitness just like in weight loss. Check into the New Rules of Lifting for Women - hire a personal trainer for a month and get some feedback on where you're maybe not pushing yourself or extra help on running or lifting. Check into standardized fitness tests you can do yourself and evaluate your progress in a month.

Above all, think that the only difference between those at goal weight and those not at goal weight is commitment, belief, and persistance. If you have those three, you'll get to goal.

> I am so discouraged and
> thinking about stopping WW.

So read over what I commented on. Do you have belief in the program - I do. Do you have committment? Do you have persistance? Maybe you could tighten up on weighing and measuring? Increase your exercise routine?

> I cannot afford to keep going and paying
> and not be losing weight.
It can be difficult in these times to evaluate how much something is worth to someone else. I have a grocery receipt taped to the inside of the book I keep Program in - it's to remind me that I can spend the money at the store and eat it or spend it at WW - what is your choice? Did you have a set amount of money you were willing to pay on Program? And within that money amount you planned to be at goal? Probably not - you probably started with the intention to give it all your efforts - but it's gotten a little old - the bloom is faded a bit and you're tired of the effort. So remember - belief, committment, persistance.

I see people fail when they lack one of the three but no one fails to meet goal if they have all three - even if they falter along the way. So what have the last two weeks shown you? Where does your effort need to go?

Hi, I am a fitness instructor and I wouldn't worry about the weight gain. If you haven't exercised in a while or at all or are not on a continuous exercise routing, you are strengthening the muscles and muscle weighs a lot more than fat. I would be using the scale, but I would also see how my clothes fit. If your routine is working, your waistline should be getting smaller.

Angi,
Glad to hear from you again. I know it can be frustrating, as I've
been on WW for just over 2 years and have lost 54 lbs. I lost about 40
lbs the first year, but this last year has been REALLY slow, mostly my
own fault(bad choices), but some weeks just strange WIs. Some weeks
I'll lose 0.2 or 0.4 and then the next week I *GAIN* it back plus more.
Last week, for instance I gained 1.9, but this week I lost 2.0, for a
net of 0.1 whoopee. But this week I'm doing Simply Filling and hoping
for a decent (read 1+ lb) loss. I also haven't been working out like I
did before we move, so I know that's part of it too, but when we get
back from Disney World August 2nd that's going to change.
Have a great day!
Melissa

Melissa, right, don't quit. It took me almost a month before my body got used to the change in my eating habits. I get discouraged also and expect better losses, but the losses will come. I try to focus on how much better I feel and the extra energy I have because of the better food I am eating. I hope this message will help

Melissa is right - DON'T give up and quit. You WILL gain more than you've
lost. It's a given!!! Keep going and ask for help, others have been thru
this and many have ideas to re-jump start your weight loss. My sister said
she never (or rarely) used her extra 35 points. When she did, it would give
her metabolism a boost and she'd lose more weight. Crazy, but true. Worth
a try.

Thanks so much for your reply. I do go to meetings every Wed. and
that is what my leader said last week is I may not be eating enough.
I do eat all of my regular points, but I never eat any of my extras.
It is not my TOM yet and I have to watch my sodium because of a
tendency to swell due to arthritis.

I will keep watching and waiting but iti s so discouraging to go to
meetings and hear everyone celebrating and I am not doing anything.

Please don't give up and quit, that will only make you GAIN weight!
Sometime your body has to adjust to starting or upping an exercise
program. Are you eating all your WPAs and your APs? If you're not,
try eating MORE! Sometimes if you aren't eating enough your body
will
hold onto the weight because you're not eating enough. If you're
eating some of the APs, try eating either more or less, you have to
play around with it. Also, is it your TOM? I know I gain or maintain

the week before or the week OF TOM. Be patient, play with the foods
you eat, too, maybe too much sodium? There could be a TON of reasons

you're not losing. If you go to meetings, talk to your leader and
see
what he/she says.

Welcome Laura!

I understand what you mean about staying motivated.  I have lost 60 lbs since I (re) joined last September.  What has helped me is finding a meeting that I enjoy going to, the leader makes all the difference!  Also, I am able to taylor my food choices to what I want and what I like.  I started out with Flex, then the new program Momentun.  Just recently, (last 2-3 weeks) I am working the Simply Filling.

For extra motivation, when I am doubting or feeling low and giving up, I read the blog "theantijared.blogspot.com" ... he is so honest, reading his thoughts helps keep me honest with myself.  That's where it all starts and ends.

Be honest with yourself, you make your choices.

I know you can do this, at times it is challenging, and you are worth the extra effort!

Hugs,
Tina - Calif

I have tried many times to lose weight but didn't stay motivated.  I hope to do better this time.  I may need surgery and my doctor told me I'm a high surgical risk but I'm also high risk for cancer.

I'm 65, have diabetes, and need to lose at least 65 pounds (to put me under 200) but more would be better.

I joined this list and a couple of others a long time ago and have mostly been no mail since then.  I didn't delete any groups because I knew where to get support when I was ready to get serious.  I will be sending this to the three groups I belong to so I hope you will forgive my duplicate posts,

I too understand about the satying motivated. I'm a lifetimer that lost 50
pounds gained 20 of it back and the yo yo began. This week though I am so
proud of myslef. I've been getting up at 5:30 in the morning and walking for
an hour before my husband leaves for work. the I have been tracking
everything and staying on point an donly using a few of my extra points this
week. It feels so goo. I'll have to wait until Saturday to see if anything
changes. But if nothing else I'm 4 days in to a 21 day goal of making new
habits.

I don't post too much but I read a lot and the stories and NSV's are the
inspiration that I can do this.

Tina,
Do you like SF? I just switched back from points Tuesday and am really
enjoying it. I did it before and lost alot of weight the first week,
but then I got tired of only being able to eat certain things without
counting points. Probem is, I've been yo-yo-ing the same 5 lbs since
right before Thanskgiving, so I have to do something different.
Have a great day!
Melissa

Welcome to the group! Your breakfast drink is almost exactly what I have every morning. I have a bag of frozen blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries, and I mix it up in my magic bullet with Vanilla Soy Slender. 2 points and it's nice and cool for the summer.

Angi, great job on bumping up the exercise. Don't worry so much about what the scale says right now. How are you feeling? Are your clothes fitting better? Do you have more energy? Sometimes you won't see the results on the scale right away, but your body is changing. Things are shifting. You are losing fat and gaining muscle. Stick with it and I promise you will see the results you want. Be honest and make sure you are following the program, and talk to your leader if you have questions too. Hang in there!

Thanks Melissa! This is my 3rd vacation that I have done well with this year. We covered this in meeting this morning. I told them it is just another "normal OP day" but with different scenery. That's the only way I can look at it and stay OP to live this lifestyle. You'll do good. The walking certainly helps! And they should have a classification for standing in line too, lol..

Hugs, Deb

I had my WI yesterday (but worked 3rd shift the night before and was
sleeping and then we went on a mini road trip so that's why I couldn't post
till now) and lost 2.2 pounds this week! I am .6 away from my first 10
pounds since rejoining (28 weeks ago).
