1. Better choices and a question about avocados
Posted by: "CLAUDIA" clewing1953@sbcglobal.net clewing1953@sbcglobal.net

I made a quick trip to the grocery store yesterday, at a time that I
shouldn't have. I was hungry and I had been craving chocolate for a
couple days.
I am proud to say I left with only the following things in my cart I
hadn't gone in for: Weight Watchers English Toffee Crunch ice cream
bars, Kashi Fruit & Grain Dark Chocolate Coconut (2 points) and Quaker
Chewy Oat Granola Bars Dark Chocolate Chunk (3 points, but a whopping
9 g of fiber in each bar! That is more than my fiber supplement I take
for diverticulosis!). Oh, and a couple fresh peaches and avocados that
aren't ripe yet. I sat in the parking lot and had an ice cream bar.
Wanting to make it last, I nibbled on it and enjoyed every little
bite, rather than downing it in three or four bites like I normally
would have.
Not only did it satisfy that chocolate hunger, I felt SOOOOO good
about myself for making better choices and then controlling how I ate
the ice cream.
I know I've got to be in this for the long haul, so have to change
everything about how I think about food.
Now, my question about avocados. Living in Oklahoma, usually the only
ones we could get were the small, ugly, almost brown avocados. I was
born and raised in Florida and used to the larger, smoother skin,
greener ones. The one I got yesterday was from Florida and was
actually marked with a sticker that said "Litecado, 30% less calories
and 50% less fat than California avocados." On my points tracker it
only lists avocado and doesn't make any type of difference between the
two. Anybody know where I could get a comparison so I can see if I can
count this as less points? Or, since it is bigger than the California
avocado just take the ¼ of the fruit serving as the correct points? I
can hardly wait for it to get ripe. For so long I heard "You shouldn't
eat avocados, they are so high in fat," then people found out it was
one of those healthy fats and now it's OK again. For awhile I used to
think of avocados as the forbidden fruit—not the apple—because of it's
high fat content.

4. Avocados

I Googled the for nutrition info on the two avocados. I found a great
site for the Florida one where it gives the info in oz, grams, cups
and fruit
(http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts/fruits-and-fruit-juices/1845/2).
Since the one I found for California avocados only had ounces, that is
what I used. Here is what I found:
Florida 1 oz California
Calories 34 50
Fat 3 4.5
Fiber 2 1
Points 1 1
So the Florida avocado is by better, even though they both calculate
to the same points.
By the way, I am definitely bookmarking that site. It looks like it
has a lot of good info.

Not having a very good day today! Went in for my weigh in and gained 0.2 lbs! Not sure how that happened! I've been eating all of my points and I still had 28 weekly points available. Does anyone eat before they weigh in? My meeting is at noon on Thursday and I don't eat anything before the weigh in. Some days I also save up points if I know we'll be eating out.
I really need to exercise more. Yesterday was the first day that I exercied since starting the program three weeks ago. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Thinking I might need to eat more filling foods and watch my carb intake.
Thanks for listening!

Marsha,
0.2 is NOTHING! Is it your TOM? Did you eat alot of sodium yesterday?
If you did, that could've caused you to retain water! Monday night
before WI on Tuesday I ate chinese food(high sodium) and I made sure I
drank at least 80 oz(not lying) of water before I went to bed to flush
out the sodium!(I WI at home Tues mornings). It must've worked,
because Tues I lost 1.7! Also, it could be that you didn't eat ENOUGH
if you still had 28 WPAs left, some people have to eat all their DPAs,
WPAs and APs in order to lose. I wouldn't worry about it. My 2nd week
on WW(2+years ago), I maintained, the first week I lost 2.4, second 0,
then the third week was like 2 lbs. I'm a slow loser, in the 2+ years
I've been on WW I've lost 56.2 lbs, but I sure feel a WHOLE lot better
than I did when I started!
Good luck this week!

Btw, I WI first thing in the AM, but when I DID do meetings in the
beginning, I always ate breakfast and lunch on WI days(my meetings were
at 6pm!) but I made sure to drink only water during the day. Don't
make yourself starve on WI days, it WON"T help! Also, if you wear
heavier clothes, somethings that'll affect your WI slightly. One time
I wore jeans and it sure showed :/.

10a. Treatment plan

Hi all
Well went to the oncologist today and this is the plan
I get back from the cruise on the 13th of August-- On the 14th I go for
blood work. On the 17th my birthday at 7 am I have an MRI and a ct. Scan. I
see the Dr 4 days later to start chemo. Then they will also decide on
whether they will do more radiation.
So in the meantime he has given me a prescription to help get the swelling
down. YIPEE!! I need to watch for depression from coming of the steroids
and headaches from the same.
This week is some fun stuff-- Sunday Shannon, Gail, Nickolle and I are
going to Ichiban for dinner (Teppanyaki) That will be fun. Monday I meet the
old ladies from work for dinner. Then Tuesday Gail's family and mine will
be going to the Aces Baseball game. Wednesday Shannon heads home and
Thursday Gail and I head out for the cruise. So things are moving along.
Hope you had a great day-- I am tired today-- lack of sleep-- will get
better once the steroids are out of my system
Huugs and love to all
