Ran 2 miles, did about 15 minutes of ab workouts, and 30 minutes of leg and arms weights with free weights and universal weight machines.  I love the gym!  It's my stress reliever.

I was late getting out of the house so it cut back on my gym time. I go to the gym in the am and then off to my weight watchers meeting.
15 minutes on the upright bike
31 minutes on the elliptical
30 minutes on the treadmill
16 minutes on the recumbant bike.
A couple of weeks ago I took the dog for a walk. I told hubby what route I was taking and said to come and get us in an hour. We went about 2.54 miles.
I think I will do that tomorrow morning and go a different route. I will take the cell phone and call him when we are done. The dog sure could use the exercise to. She is very fit. A dachshund, almost as energetic as a jack russell terrier.

No, it is not genetically engineered, it is just the nature of the
avocado. I had heard in the past that the Florida avocado was lower in
calories and fat than the California ones, and I always liked them
better (but then I'm from Florida). It was just interesting and I had
to check them out for myself. I've eaten these types of avocados since
I was a little girl, even having a tree of them in our yard when I was
growing up.

I am the same way with exercise, but you must eat all of your daily points or your body will go into starvation mode.

Hi Marsha:

I feel your pain girl. I have been going to WW for about 8 wks now
and had lost 9.2 lbs. Last week for no reason at all I gained 2.2
lbs and this is my 3rd week of steady exercise (swimming and
walking). On my scales that morning I had lost a little so I was so
upset when I found out I had gained 2.2 lbs. I was back down this
week, but based on my prior week experience, I just couldnt go to the
meeting and take that chance of being unexpectedly up. My point is to
you that so far exercise has not been a benefit to me. I think I lose
better when I am NOT exercising! LOL! My weigh in is at 6:00 p.m, so
I do eat breakfast and lunch (light) and I never eat all of my extra
weekly points and some days I don't even eat all of my daily points.
I dont know what I am doing wrong but so far WW hasn't worked that
great for me.

Maybe we can work through this together. Please pass on any tips you
learn.

Take care and best of luck,

Angi

Hi!

I will chime in and say that I have lost two pounds since September, but,
for whatever reason, I have gone down three sizes. I am wearing Size 14
comfortably in everything. In total I had lost 36 pounds from March of 2008
to September of 2008. I have a feeling that one day I will just break
through this plateau on the scale, but I am happy with everything other than
the scale. I am 45 so I know that I won't lose like I did back when I hit
lifetime in my 20s so I just keep hanging in there.

Don't be discouraged by that one moment in time when you are standing on the
scale. Just keep doing what you're doing, including exercising, and you
will see other changes in yourself physically and mentally. WW does work,
but I don't think it works the same way on every single person.

Keep the faith! :-)

I am an emotional eater for sure. I am also struggling to change the immature "all or nothing" attitude with food and exercise I have had most of my life.
So, that being said, I could use some pointers and words of wisdom for how to keep a positive attitude and 'keep on tracking' because I am in it for the long haul...and I have about 80 lbs to lose, and have not been very successful with my efforts lately.

Thanks to all!
Kristin =)

What a beautiful, encouraging letter, Laura. I have marked this as an
important e-mail, and will be referring back to it when I get up to
those minimal losses, or gains. It is a truly wonderful way to look at
it.

I, too, am in it for the long haul, and with WW being so easy to
follow and so many good foods available (I was in WW 33 years ago and
it was so difficult to stay on because there was very little out there
that made it easy: i.e., no low cal/low fat alternatives, frozen
meals, WW cakes, ice cream, etc.). I honestly feel as if I can be on
this the rest of my life. I didn't gain 200 pounds overnight, or even
in two years. Why should I expect it to come off quickly?

And your e-mail arrived in my mail box this morning just at the time I
needed it. My son had to work this morning and came home with fresh
donuts. He sat them on the table (my computer is in the kitchen), and
as I was reading your e-mail the smell of the donuts were almost
over-powering me. I got up, shut the box and moved them out of reach,
and got a peach instead.

Beautifully put, Laura.

I have lost 121 pounds and I am determined NOT to gain weight (as per my usual routine). . . Deciding that my body was a gift from God and that it was my responsibility to take care of that gift -- to nourish my body instead of abusing it, has really been a key factor in successfully changing my lifestyle.

As you said, the rate of weight loss is really not what this is about--it is the fact that we are deciding to take care of our bodies--the only one we will ever get. The weight will come off, eventually, if we really do make the lifestyle/eating changes that WW teaches us.

Again, great words of wisdom, Laura!

Claudia and Cindi,

I do so appreciate knowing that my hard won beliefs help you.

I hope I didn't give the impression that I now am able to easily act on these beliefs. Because I am not.

It is a daily struggle to know what I need to do, have urges to do the opposite and act according to my beliefs instead of the urges. Really it's an issue by issue or incident by incident decision making process. None of these actions are in my habit repertoire.

Last week, I came home with the habits of successful ww ers pamphlet. Like most of this journey, the skill is briefly explained, but the behaviors required are not. In order to make those behaviors mine, I have to do much more with the information they provide. I went through the pamphlet and did some deep thinking to make a list of everything I have learned from all my failed weight loss and weight loss maintenance attempts [the skill i seem to need the most right now].

Wednesday was weigh day & I was agitated, negative and argumentative. After an inner struggle, I went to the meeting anyway. Very difficult until after I weighed. I was still disappointed, but glad it was a loss.

From there we drove into town [30 mins from WW & an hour from our home in the country] to go to Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. We ate at IHOP...a very bad decision for me as a vegetarian and mostly organic eater. But I tracked my points as accurately as I could. The food tasted really bad and I left full but unsatisfied. The decision points in this incident were each difficult: what to order, how to handle a rather disgusting meal, and what to do for myself after.

My husband took me out the next night which was the only decision I could come up with to fix my still unsatisfied feeling. I ordered carefully and included a small amount of a desert -- eating only half of a very small portion. Still tracking points, knowing we normally rarely eat out [restaurants are at least 30 minutes from home].

Yesterday, I ended up with an emergency visit to an eye doctor and laser surgery on my eye for a torn retina. We left there at dinner time. Decision time again. I came up with a vegetarian meal of green beans and baked potato.. My food has to taste good to me or I will feel deprived. Finally I thought of using a small amount of butter, the sour cream and asked for a cup of salsa. At first I was depressed about my meal. Besides my eye hurt and I was stress exhausted. When i got home, I carefully added my points and felt happy with myself.

I supposed that as I get more used to this lifestyle, there won't be so many decision points because I will have learned what I feel about many issues....that learning curve thing.

But right now, this requires that I consistently take my time and think things out to understand what is important to me, what foods I actually like, and what skill I have that is appropriate in each situation.

This was quite long. I just needed to be clear that the actions involved in living according to my new beliefs are not yet natural and require quite a bit of effort.

Laura

This was weird. About 15 or 20 minutes ago I felt extremely exhausted. Not
just tired but exhausted. So I sat here with my eyes closed between calls
and at exactly the top of the hour (8pm) I felt energized and awake again.
That was the weirdest thing.
