Nothing yet because I am at work 8-3 but I plan to go to the library and
park as far away as possible and take the elevator instead of the stairs.
And then at home I will do laundry and dishes and also play some Wii Tennis
and do My Wii Fitness Coach.

Are you doing this just to be skinny?
Are you doing this to get healthy?
You state that exercise has not been a benefit to you. What is the point of
losing weight if not to be a healthier person living a healthy lifestyle?
You simply canNOT be a healthy person without physical exercise.
I think you need to rethink the way you're looking at this. Has exercise
been a benefit to you? MOST CERTAINLY SO!!
In the three weeks you've been exercising, you have:
1. Improved your cardiovascular fitness.
2. Burned more fat than in the three weeks previous.
3. Built muscle.
4. Increased bone density
5. Reduced the chances for chronic illnesses that are the result of a
sedentary lifestyle
6. Improved your body's handling of hormones
7. Increased lung capacity
8. Increased the number of mitochondria in your cells, which aids in cell
regeneration and repair
I could go on...
My point is, the ONLY place you have not seen a benefit for exercise is on
the scale. Your body has benefited DRAMATICALLY from exercise.
There is a term that is being used right now to refer to people who may look
good in clothing but are actually "obese" by definition of their body fat
percentage. The term is "Skinny Fat." Skinny fat people have as much of a
chance to live with chronic disease due to sedentary lifestyles as fat
sedentary people. In fact if you kept exercising consistently every week,
about an hour a day most days of the week, for the next year and I stopped
exercising but cut my calories and maintained my weight (around 123), you
would be healthier than me at the end of that year, even if you were in the
"obese" category in the BMI tables.
It is not uncommon to see a slow down in weight loss when you first start
working out. Your body will be burning fat and building muscle, so you'll
have a net fat loss, but not necessarily a net weight loss. A few things are
also happening. As you exercise you damage your muscles. Your body rebuilds
them and they get stronger, but part of that process brings on inflammation.
Inflammation can show up as weight gain on the scale (or lack of loss).
So change your way of thinking...if your only goal here is to get skinny, I
can almost guarantee your weight loss will, in the long run, be more
challenging and that (sadly) you may become one of the statistics of those
95% who regain the weight they've lost within five years. But if your goals
are varied and include optimal health, fitness gain, weight loss, well
being, taking on new challenges, and changing your lifestyle so you're truly
living a HEALTHY life, you simply can't HELP but be successful.
When I hit goal I maintained a weight of 115 pounds for a few years. When I
REALLY increased my exercise I put on a few pounds, then a few more. I am
now between 120-125 on any given weigh in, but I am still wearing clothes
from being 115. (I started officially at 222 pounds, but was closer to
235-240 the summer before I joined WWers, to give some perspective.) I could
say "Exercise has changed what my scale reads!" and stopped exercising! But
instead I choose to focus on health, not the scale.Yeah, I'll be
honest...*I'd love to see that 115 again, but only if I could do it in a
healthy manner. I can't maintain my current level of health and fitness and
be "skinny skinny" because my body won't have it. So I settle for looking
fit and healthy and being fit and healthy.
So get out and exercise, and every time the scale says something that upsets
you, sit down for a moment and go over all of the accomplishments you made
towards better health during the week, then let the number on the scale go!

I'm mostly a LURKER too. let's kick into this thing together. I only lost
2.6 my first week, I was quite disappointed since I have so much to lose,
but at least the scale is going in the right direction. I don't want to be
like this ANY LONGER. Let's do it together!

Posted by: "Serious-Weight-Watchers@yahoogroups.com" Serious-Weight-Watchers@yahoogroups.com
Date: Sun Jul 26, 2009 6:41 pm ((PDT))
List Rules
1) NO discussion about sugar substitutes. This is one of the hottest topics and people are extremely opinionated. If you're concerned about sugar substitutes, hit Google. Don't discuss it here. You may share recipes with sugar substitutes and you may ask which bakes the best, etc., but NO discussion about health aspects. Do your own research and come to your own conclusions.
2) NO discussion of how Weight Watchers works. Can't come here and have us teach you the program. Most of the members here are paying members and Weight Watchers has a copyright on their information. They have a great program and deserve their financial compensation. So we won't tell you how the program works. Join up and get the materials for yourself!
3) NO solicitation for money. Period. Ever.
4) Be nice. Play nice. Share, share, share!
5) If you think you're still on moderated status, chances are you probably are. Email me privately at Serious-Weight-Watchers-owner@yahoogroups.com and put MODERATION in the subject line. Then ask to be taken off moderation. This is one busy group with over 5000 members, and taking people off moderated status is often times put on the back burner. Only make this request if you've been a member of the group for a month and have posted a few times.
6) If you want to discuss OT stuff, join the group set up by Kerry and Sherri. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/SWW-OTdiscussion/
7) Don't write a post to the group announcing you're leaving because you're upset about X, Y or Z at the group. People who do this are trying to stir things up. The funny thing is, as moderators, we know when people unsub. Those that try to stir the pot and announce they're leaving never do! They send a post, trying to cause problems, then stay and watch. When you see this behavior here or at other groups, know you're dealing with trolls or people with no class.
8) If you have a problem with the group, email the moderators. Don't post it to the group. Serious-Weight-Watchers-owner@yahoogroups.com
Thanks,

You took a Power Nap. I work th emidnight shift and sometimes about 4am, I hit a wall and can't keep my eyes open. I have a timer I set for 10 minutes. I just close my eyes and kind of drift off. When the timer goes off, I'm usually good to go again.

9a. Cindie's Race Report
Posted by: "Cindie Niemann" cindyloohoo32@hotmail.com cindieloohoo32
Date: Mon Jul 27, 2009 6:25 am ((PDT))
Sylvania Women's Only Tri-Dri, July 26, 2009
Pre Race
Up at 4:30 to get everything ready. I slept great, and felt well rested when I woke up. We left home at 5:30 to get to Sylvania for the 7:30 race. We saw lots of cars on the highway heading to the race. When we got there I went to check my number so I could pick up my packet. On the list they had me signed up for the Duathlon. I had to get that corrected. They told me I was going to have to move my bike to start with the duathlon, but after I whined a bit that I already had everything set up, they let me keep it where it was. I saw several girls from the Women In Motion training group. It's always fun to find people I know.
Swim .25 mile, 10:31 min
The swim was in a quarry. It was a time trial start so they had us arrange ourselves according to our projected time. I was in the 9-12 minutes group, which was second, and probably the largest group. I was going to have to wait for a while. While I was waiting I realized I was starving, and all the coffee I drank was starting to make me jittery. I ran up to try and find Jay in the crowd of spectators so I could eat some of the sandwich I packed, but I couldn't find him anywhere. Oh well, I was just going to have to do without. I told myself I was going to try and swim this one freestyle most of the way, but once I started I felt more comfortable doing breast stroke. It was a really short course and it was a lot easier to see where I was going. I did freestyle a little toward the end. At the end there were steps in the water to walk up out of the quarry. They were really slippery, but I made it without falling. My goal for next time is to swim more freestyle. I better get working on that!
T1 1:23
I saw Jay while I was running up the steps to the transition and I told him I needed my sandwich. He met me right after I went out on the bike and tossed it to me.
Bike 13 Miles, 40:55, 19.1 mph pace
The bike felt great. I ended up finishing 2nd in my age group. This course was very flat, and I only had to change gears a couple times. I prefer a few hills at least, but it was easy to maintain a fast pace. I was flying on the bike and only 2 people passed me. I found out later that they were the 1st and 2nd place overall winners making their 2nd lap as I was just starting my first!
T2 :44
T2 was uneventful. Off for the run!
Run 3.2 Miles, 35:00
The run started off OK. It didn't take long for my legs to get back to normal. It was an out and back with a loop around 2 fields in between. It was very flat, but it was harder than usual. It seemed to take forever just to get to the first mile marker. At one point the wind blew my hat off my head. It was nice of the girl behind me to pick it up for me. By mile marker 2 I was wondering if I was going to be able to make it to the end without stopping to walk. I was running very slowly, and I'm sure that many of the people I passed on the bike were now passing me on the run. I kept going and there was a volunteer saying that we had .75 miles left. I couldn't believe it, because it seemed like I had been running for a long time! Shortly after that there was .25 left, so I guess the first guy was wrong. Whew! I was able to pick up the pace for the last bit of the race and it felt great to cross the finish! I'm going to have to work on my running speed. Goal for next time is to improve my speed.
Finish 1:28:31
17th place out of 57 participants in 40-44 age group
113th place out of 332 participants overall

Cindie--
Wow!! I'm so impressed!!
Thanks for the report. I am wondering if I will ever get up the nerve
to try a triathlon so I love reading other's experiences.
One question for you-- what is a Duathlon?
You should be so proud of yourself!!!

A duathlon is running and biking without the swimming. The sprint duathlon is usually 1.5 miles running, then 10-15 miles biking, and then 3 miles running.
You can totally do a triathlon. If you can find a women's only triathlon in your area, it's a great way to get started. They usually have alot of novices and first-timers, so the environment is really cool. Many running stores, or other fitness groups offer beginning triathlon training, which is a great way to meet people who are just starting out. I felt so much more confident knowing there were lots of other people out there just like me!
