Yes Faye, but again that is an UNTESTED supplement that may, at best,
be ineffective and at worst dangerous. It's really REALLY important we
not suggest to others that they take supplements on the list. Since we
aren't medical professionals and don't know what someone else might be
allergic to, what other medications they may be taking that could
conflict with some over the counter thing, or what other health issues
they might have.
I just really think it's not a good idea to suggest another person
take ANY medication, over the counter or not.

I was lucky not to be on any medications when I started my weight
loss, but I'm sure it was only a matter of time. But I can tell you, I
no longer snore (sleep apnea), I don't have heartburn (have had it
maybe 3x in 6 years), I don't have shortnesss of breath when I walk,
or foot pain at the end of every day. In fact I ran yesterday for
20.25 miles and felt BETTER at the end than I used to at the end of a
normal day teaching.
Honestly, losing weight is the best thing I ever did for my health.

LOL, mine is thinking soup! It's cold here. It's never cold here in August. NEVER!
The egg rolls sound heaven! I can tolerate them baked. I make crab Rangoon baked, lol. It's different, but tasty and I loves my sweet crabmeat. I just add some Splenda to the mixture to make up for using the lower fat cream cheese.
Carol, you are so right. Portion control and planning and we can eat what we love. Or figure out a way to make it so it is OP. Just imagination and a lil more work and it's sooooooooo worth it!
PS: those cabbage rolls may be getting played in our house this week too, lol...

I made my egg rolls yesterday for the first time since I have been on
Weight Watchers and there is a good reason for that. I make the
world's best egg rolls, and they are addictive. I think if you gave my
husband his choice of any of the food I make (which is extensive) egg
rolls would be his favorite.
The egg rolls themselves aren't too bad.lean ground beef, cabbage,
carrots, celery, bell peppers, bean sprouts.but then you fry them..my
daughter and I tried baking some, ala Hungry Girl recipe, but I
couldn't deal with them baked. So I added an extra two points to the
calculation I made for the egg roll (1 point for the ground beef,
which is minimal in each egg roll, and 1 point for the wrapper) for
the grease it was fried in. Still not too bad at four points a piece,
but I ate three of them, along with pepper steak and rice.
Do you all think the two extra points was about right for the added
grease? Too much? Too little?
I went over my daily points, but the first time this week (week starts
on Tuesdays) I dipped into my weekly points, so I'm OK.
I just know that egg rolls are going to have to be one of those
special meals I don't make often..because the leftover egg rolls are
calling me..so far I've ignored them!
The next special meal I make for my husband that I can't resist will
be German. He says if I will cook him one of these "special" meals
once a month, he won't say anything about all the broiled, grilled,
etc., foods we eat the rest of the time!!! I don't see too many places
I can trim down Jaegarschnitzel and spatzle..One of the reasons we
don't go to our favorite lunch place any more-it's German and there
isn't a darn thing on the menu that wouldn't take up over half of my
daily points!

Hi All,
Found this article and thought it made some very good points. Enjoy!
------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- -
------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------
Preparing a weight loss program means setting up the conditions that will
make it most easily possible for you to achieve your weight loss goals.
There are numerous important choices to make during the preparation stage,
including the form your diet will take, how much weight you will attempt to
lose, how you will keep yourself motivated to make progress towards your
goals, and how you will monitor your progress.
Understand your motives
An important first step is to examine your motives for wanting to lose
weight. Are they driven by health concerns, by vanity, by shame, by a desire
to move more effortlessly, by a combination of these motives. Do you want to
lose weight for yourself, to please others, or a combination of these
motives. Deciding to make a lifetime commitment to diet and exercise is a
big step. You will be most likely to succeed in such a program if you want
it for yourself and are not merely trying to please other people. Asking
these questions is part of your due diligence necessary to establish that
your motives are solid and will sustain you through the trials and efforts
of weight loss. If you learn that you really don't care that much whether
you lose weight or not, you may not want to invest further time in
developing and committing to a weight loss program as you will be unlikely
to complete it.
Decide how much weight to lose
Having decided to go forward with your planning, you need to choose a
realistic and personally desirable weight loss target goal. It is not
necessary that you lose all the weight you possibly could. Rather, you
should lose the weight you want to lose.
Government scientists have provided guidelines that help you to know what
you should ideally weigh. After figuring out your present Body Mass Index (a
ratio of your weight in pounds, divided by your height in inches squared,
the result multiplied by 703), figure out how much your weight needs to
change in order for you to achieve a BMI between 19 and 25 (the "healthy
weight" range). There is no need for actual calculation, as the appropriate
weight values can be read directly off of a web-accessible chart.
Alternatively, recall the lowest weight you were able to maintain for a
while shortly after reaching the age of 21. This weight is likely to be the
minimum weight you stand a chance of maintaining as an adult.
You will want to temper your weight goal based on your knowledge of how
difficult weight loss has been for you to achieve in the past, and how large
your frame is (larger boned people should weight more than smaller boned
people).
Decide what diet method to use
Do a review of literature describing several popular reducing plans to
decide which one appeals to you best. Keep in mind that all reducing plans
work the same way, by restricting the total number of calories you eat so
that you achieve a negative energy balance. Also keep in mind that the diet
changes you'll need to make are permanent and will not end with you
achieving your weight loss goal. You'll simply have to permanently move to a
more balanced, nutritionally sound and portion controlled diet if you want
to stand a real chance of maintaining your weight loss gains. Choose a
reducing plan that appeals to your taste, needs and resources, and provides
a sound transitional program for moving to a healthy maintenance diet. The
Weight Watchers plan is a very sound choice if you can't think of an
alternative you'd rather pursue.
Optimize your diet choice
Having made a reduction diet choice, use your knowledge of past diet efforts
to customize it so that you are less likely to fail. Think about the things
that trigger you to overeat and generate plans to address these triggers.
For example, if you commonly find yourself snacking while watching
television, plan to have healthy and acceptable snacks (cut carrots,
unbuttered popcorn, etc.) on hand so that you won't blow your diet.
You can also help your diet efforts along by finding ways to fit your diet
choices into your regular routines as much as possible. For example, it is
really easy to substitute spring water or diet soda for sugared soda, or to
substitute low or fat-free dairy products for the higher fat variety.
Similarly, a piece of fresh fruit might take the place of a bag of chips.
Decide your diet pace
There is no need for speed in dieting, and in fact, speed can be dangerous
to your health. A healthy weight loss rate is one or two pounds a week
maximum. Very low calorie diets can be dangerous and the weight loss is
likely to be gained back rapidly when the diet ends. Most people can safely
lose weight on a simple low calorie diet of between 1200 and 1500 calories a
day for women and 1500 and 1800 calories a day for men.
In addition to pacing your weight loss, consider pacing your eating speed
and the amount of food you eat. Learn what a serving of a food is really
supposed to be and begin to measure your food. Serve the food on smaller
plates and eat slowly. Eating slowly will allow you to notice at what point
you feel satiated and satisfied. If you gobble your food you eliminate your
ability to know when you have become full, and end up overeating and feeling
uncomfortable.
Add an exercise program
It's an excellent idea to combine your dietary weight loss efforts with an
exercise program. Exercise is the key to sustained weight management.
Exercise burns excess calories, reduces stress levels and consequent
emotional eating, relaxes the body for better sleep and helps fight mild
anxiety and depression. Moderate to vigorous exercise produces a wonderful
sense of well-being. Pick a type of exercise you find workable (even
enjoyable if possible) and find the time to do it regularly.

6a. Soy Milk Question

Hi Faye-
I feel the same way about tomatoes. I even LOVE tomato soup!
I buy Low -fat chocolate almond milk which is 2 points for 8 oz. it is AMAZING!!! It really tastes like the real thing to me!
Enjoy!
-Kristal
Hi everyone!
I know it's hard to describe a taste because of course everyone has their
own taste buds. For instance I *hate* tomatoes unless they are cooked or
stewed like in a soup and I also like catsup (go figure) but my husband and
daughter love them.
But maybe someone can help me anyway...
When I'm being good and OP the one indulgance I allow myself is one cup of
chocolate milk every day when I take my meds.
I noticed when I was getting some other things I needed that chocolate soy
milk is only 70 calories where even the non fat chocolate milk I normally
get (Over the Moon) is 150 calories. So I was thinking 1/2 the calories is
even better but I didn't know if I'd like soy milk. And I didn't want it to
go to waste if I didn't. Bob (hubby) said I should have got it cuz if it's
chocolate flavored I probably wouldn't notice what kind of milk it was but I
wasn't sure.
Any thoughts...?

I also do vanilla almond milk, and it's wonderful (even the
unsweetened) and only 40 calories per cup. I bet the chocolate would
be wonderful. Plus almonds are high in lots of vitamins and minerals.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of soy milk, whether it's chocolate or vanilla. My favorite for the non-milk milk's would be Rice Milk. Or Almond Milk. The Rice Dream brand is about the same calorie-wise, but the Almond Dream is around 50 calories.

Any of you have any 'kids off to college'?
I just got back from dropping off my son...and it seems really strange and quiet. DH is keeping busy with other things. This is our youngest of 4 so we are now an empty nest home. The two dogs don't know the difference, yet.
Got to get over the bummer mode and not turn to food while I'm recouping....good luck to all the smaller households.

9a. August Review and September Goals
Posted by: "Jen" jenstk06@yahoo.com jenstk06

My goal for August was to get below the 190 mark, unfortunately, I'm at 195.5. My other goal was to have at least 500 exercise minutes and I ended up with 303, not bad, better than previous months!!
My goals for September:
1. Break the 190 mark
2. Since August was just over 300 exercise minutes, my goal for September is 350 minutes.
3. Track every single bite that crosses my lips!
4. Drink at least 64oz of water daily.

Excellent Jen! Definitely doable, and the best part is that you're
making REASONABLE goals that are reachable. You're not trying to
completely redefine your entire life, but are taking small steps
towards big changes.

AMEN Carol!
We are wholly responsible for the health and welfare of our children,
and while there is nothing wrong with an occasional trip to a fast
food restaurant for special, too often and you teach children to crave
high fat, high sodium, low nutrient foods. Better to let them enjoy it
no more than once or twice a month while feeding them lots of variety
at home so that they know how to eat a balanced diet that doesn't
exclude anything, and is mostly healthy.
One thing I've been doing lately is testing a new system I'm going to
have in my program starting Oct 1 that allows me to journal and
"grade" my daily food intake. It's fascinating how easy it is to tweak
a few things here and there and see the grades go up (or down). It's
made me very aware of my choices. For example, yesterday I ran 20
miles and often I'll enjoy a treat after that (and I did). Today I
took myself to breakfast at Starbucks and knew I certainly had
calories to spare on a scone, but thought about how many nutrients are
in nuts and dried fruits, so went with the oatmeal with nuts and dried
fruit (300 calories total and highly nutritious, sometimes I'll do one
or the other or just half a pack of each of the nuts and fruit). It
was delicious and my grade for the day is a B+ (really need to work on
that B12, and my carbs are always high because my fat is low). I'd
say, though, that my diet now is so much more satisfying NOW than it
was when I used to frequent fast food. So many different flavors,
choices, textures, and because of that so much more nutrients!

I lost 53 lbs in 1975 and actually stayed at goal for 22 yrs. and then my granson was born with lots of problems is really hit me my whole family turned upside down and I ate to find comfort. I rejoined WW several time but never got back to original wt of 185. I rejoined but never really got into the rythm losing wt. I have now lost 30 lbs and have 10 more to go. This group has really helped. I have had my ups downs following WW since Jan but I will loose that weight. The good news is that my granson is doing well and my family is reunited.

Another Amen! No more of that pain again. Of being confined to the house
because I was too ashamed to go out. Of struggling to take a nice, hot,
leisurely bath. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh... not to mention having fun with my
grandkids! And having hope to see them all graduate and get married and
maybe even be a great grandma now. Where last year that was definitely not a
possibility. Something as simple as using the restroom was such a struggle.
And the thought of getting onto a plane to go somewhere with my husband for
our 25th was horrifying! It's too late for that celebration. It's come and
gone. But we now celebrate every day liking ourselves for living healthy and
trying to be around for ourselves and our family as long as possible.
That is why I weigh myself every day to remind myself of my commitment. If I
see a gain of any denomination I am more dedicated that day. I have so much
to be thankful for now. WW and all of you are at the top of the list.

Subject: [Serious-Weight-Watchers] Keeping The Weight Off
Once you've lost the weight, you need to learn how to keep it off. Most
people do gain the weight back after they lose it, because they go right
back to their old habits. As you get closer to your goal weight, you will
need to start easing into the lifestyle that you will continue for the rest
of your life. You will need to remember to keep cutting out the biggest
sources of blood sugar spikes, including sugar, white flour, white rice, and
potatoes. You will need to continue consuming plenty of fresh fruits and
vegetables, healthy seafood, and other lean proteins. And you will need to
continue getting some exercise.
Always remember that if you don't continue the lifestyle, you are doomed to
repeat everything you've just been through. You'll have to deal with the
pain of being overweight, the embarrassment you feel when you go out in
public, the difficulty losing the weight, the aches, pains, and discomfort
of being overweight, and all of those other issues.
That's something you don't ever want to have to go through again, right?
Never let go of the things you're feeling right now. Never forget the
struggle. Never forget the pain. Never, ever forget.
Once you let go, once you get past it and you move on, you cannot forget. If
you allow yourself to forget what it was like, you'll be back on that road
to obesity before you know it.
It's a good idea to keep a lot of photos of yourself before you lost the
weight. Keep a journal of how difficult your dieting is. Write notes in it
about how horrible you feel, how embarrassed you are, how your life is
miserable. Keep all of this together and look at it regularly.
Yes, it will be painful to dredge up those memories of when you were so
unhealthy, but it will help you stay healthy. The emotional pain you feel
will be nothing compared to what your friends and family would feel if they
lost you because you had a heart attack or stroke due to obesity, or the
pain you would feel if you gained all of the weight back.
Keep eating healthily. Keep exercising. Keep living the healthiest life
possible.
Never, ever forget

Hey everyone!
My name is Shannon and I'm a 31 year old loser. Yep, you heard me! I'm
losing the weight and I'm dedicated to keeping it off. :D
I'm a work-at-home mom to a beautiful almost-4-year-old daughter. I do
licensed child care for a living, dabble in digital scrapbooking on the
side, like to sew, scrapbook, make beaded pretties and enjoy church

I joined weight watchers 1-1/2 weeks ago, was down 6.8 pounds on my first WI
(YAY!) and am up to 2-mile walks a day. I started WW at my heaviest of 239,
and have a goal of 160 or so.
Um, I think that's all the important stuff. lol Anything else you wanna
