Hi Teresa, I had my Roux en Y over 16 1/2 years ago. (open as
laparoscopic was not an option at the time). While the surgery is
essentially the same, nowadays, doctors give many specific food and
exercise instructions. My doctor simply told me to slowly eat 3 very
small meals a day and make certain at least half of each meal was
protein, to avoid sugar or foods that made me feel sick, not to have any
carbonated beverages, and to sip water all day.
I did feel queasy for some time, and a full meal was most of a poached
egg and 1/2 piece of toast; or 1/2 of a WW dinner; or 1/4 of a turkey
sandwich. I also frequently ate a couple of tablespoons of plain yogurt
w/ artificial sweetener. Fatty things, sweet things, and milk made me
feel quite sick. I did experience dumping, and I became lactose
intolerant, but can eat cheese and yogurt. Even today, my stomach keeps
me from eating large amounts of food at one time. I cannot eat large
amounts of sugar, and must stay away from milk.
I am female, 5 '0", weighed 271 at surgery, and within 6 months lost to
160 lbs. I stayed there a few years, and then through continual
Grazing, regained to 190 lbs, stayed there a while, then began
low-calorie dieting and lost to 115 lbs, which I have maintained for the
past 3 years.. but this has required carefully watching the calories in
my food intake.
Good luck to you. It looks like you are on the right track for a
life-change.

I was told that of the 64 ozs that 32 ozs needs to be water. Your tummy will feel yucky for awhile. I had my surgery July 27,2009 and I still have a belly like that. I usually eat breakfast and then drink all day and at night I might have something small like a fiber one bar.

Hi Teresa,
I had my RNY Aug 7th so we are real close. I have trouble getting my protien and my liquids in. Today i forced myself and I am up to over 80 grams of protien. I am down 31 pounds today. I still have a queasy stomach and feel bloated. I am sure this will all go away. I'm still experiencing more pain than I think I should. I am walking and trying very hard to do everything I'm supposed to.
Good luck. Hopefully your tummy will settle don soon.
Denise

I think we all have those fears. I hope you are measuring because when the scale isn't moving, the tape measure shows what is. Stay positive, it is working for you, especially if you are following the rules. I've lost 60 pounds in 7 months. You've lost half of that in 45 days. No worries :)

I don't have an answer to your questions. I can only tell you my experience so far. I eat 2 ounces at meal time. Still fighting to get the protien shakes in, but I'm going to do it. I do drink my water (usually mixed with Crystal Light). I had surgery RNY Aug 7 which puts me 17 days out. I am down 31 pounds this morning. I did stop for 3 days and stay the same, but then lost 2 pounds the next day. I haven't had any gain. My hubby has had a couple times where he gained a couple pounds then lost again, but not much fluctuation.
Good luck!
Denise
It has been 45 days since my surgery and i have only lost 29 lb and i do stop a lot i mean i have been on tht wieght since about 2 weeks or may be more then i loose about 2 lbs ad gain 4 then it keeps comming and going not smooth wieght loss i dunno why is tht and is there a time when that flactulation in weight will stop????
sometimes i get depressed and afraid that the pouch might go bigger so i am watching carefully the amount of food that i can eat and the quality too
is that weight loss normal till now?

Hi
I am one of the newbies and my name is Julia and I get my band at 830 am
tomorrow. I live in the small town of Burrton, ks and a stay at home Mom to
a 11 year old. We also have 6 more children that are grown and have
children of their own. I have 16 grand children. We are retired Navy
and moved back to Kansas 4 years ago to be close to family. I put on weight
after I stop working 11 years ago and once I hit 246 didn't gain any more
but never could lose anymore then 20 lbs and it would come right back on. I
had to get a cpap machine 4 months ago and decided then when the lung dr
told me if I took off 100 lbs that I could give it up so that is when I
started checking into the band. I am excited about getting my band and have
worked on the head hungery for the last 2 months learning what causes it and
how to handle it. I am also hoping after I lose the weight that I can give
up some of the meds I am on. :) It is a wait and see the dr told me.
Thanks for letting me join this group
