I have looked for the less expensive Crocs at both of our Wal-marts.
They don't have any for adults at this time. Going to check out K-Mart
tomorrow, as well as looking for the real thing in town. I'd like to
try them both and compare.

Claudia,
You can get crocks that aren't the real thing for $8 at Wal-Mart.
That's
where I got mine and I love them! They are the most comfy shoes I ever
owned.

and I have no idea what is wrong with my heels. They really hurt in
the morning when I wake up and stand. It is interfering with my
working out in the morning. Any suggestions would be great!!!
Kerri, I think we have the same thing:
http://orthopedics.about.com/cs/generalinfo2/a/heelspur.htm
http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/plantar-fasciitis-what-happens
I get calluses from going barefoot (which I no longer do because of
the heel pain). I started using the Ped Egg you can get at Wal-greens,
Wal-mart, etc. I used to go get pedicures, which really helped with
the calluses, but when I tried to start conserving on funds (I am a
full time college student-lots of walking around campus and I just
ended the summer semester when this was at its height of pain-and my
husband is disabled), that was one of the first to go. The Ped Egg is
wonderful and you don't run the risk of taking off too much, as you do
with some of the other implements for removing dead skin and calluses.
Soaking your feet and applying foot cream (my favorite is
Lamisilk-it's in a lavender container in the foot care section;
different types of creams) at night with socks on will also help.
But as far as the pain, the hurting the first thing in the morning is
a good indication that you have heel spurs and/or plantar fasciitis.
You may want to contact your doctor. The first steps for treatment for
me were NSAIDs, such as Ibuprofen, ice and a good spongy, yet
supportive shoe. The more I've read up on Crocs this afternoon, the
more I am thinking they might be the best thing for me, especially the
Medical ones. I am going to check locally for them, but from the
Crocs website they are $40 with 5 s/h, so I might end up ordering
them.
In the meantime, I'm going to go with some of my belly dance exercises
(went to the troupe's annual performance last night, so now I am
gung-ho about getting back into it) that don't require a lot of
movement, but a lot of stretching, and one of my belly dance DVD is
called "Quickies" and they are just 10 minute exercises. If I'm not
hurting too badly tomorrow night, I am going to go back to class (have
had college classes the past three semesters at the same time as the
dance classes but nothing I could do about it. I am almost ready to
graduate and have to take the classes I need when they are offered)
and to the gym on Tuesday morning. There are a lot of exercises I can
be doing there that won't hurt my foot-recumbent bike and weight
machines, for instance.
I finally quit putting off eating right and am loving Weight Watchers
and it's time I put off exercising again. At one point I was taking
dance classes two nights a week and going to the gym for a two hour
work out three times a week. I need to stop making excuses and DO
IT!!!

The one thing that is VERY interesting about the "real" Crocs is that you'll
be able to feel the difference immediately. They have some interesting
polymer that not only is cushioned, but it made to continually bounce back,
yet "give" enough so it supports your foot without pain. It also is so funky
that they feel warm. Not too warm or "hot" warm, but they feel warm because
they absorb the heat from your feet and use that to mold them to your feet.
The only other shoe I wear that does that is Teva. That's why you can see
people wearing them in spring and fall without socks, because they are
strangely "warm" all the time.

3. Recipe to share....

A recipe to share;
Roasted Onion Strings(ReallyHealthy Onion Strings!)
When you roast Vidalia onions they bring up a really nice sweetness. When
you're on a diet traditional onion strings are out of the question unless
they are like these. Close your eyes while you eat them and you might not
even notice that the breading is gone.
A one ingredient side dish or starter that's a real treat. (For me sprays
and seasoning don't count as ingredients).
Serves 2 and can be doubled. If you double this use a large cookie sheet to
spread out the rings.
1 large Vidalia onion
Olive oil spray
Sea salt is optional
Preheat oven at 400 degrees. If you have a convection oven use the
convection setting.
Peel and slice the Vidalia onion into thin rings. I use my mandolin slicer
and put it on level 2 or 3. That makes thin rings. If you are doing them by
hand just try to have them be about 1/8" thick. A few thicker ones are okay.
Separate the slices into the individual rings. Spray a 9 by 13 oven proof
pan with a light coat of olive oil spray. Scatter the onion ring slices
across the surface. Don't worry that they are over lapping each other. Space
underneath is good for getting the crispiness you want. If you want them
salty grate sea salt on top before they go into the oven. The salt will
penetrate and roast into the rings.
Hugs,
maret
Roast the onions in the middle of the oven for approximately 25 to 35
minutes. (The lower end time is for convection ovens). You will watch them
toward the end. You want some deep brown edges and even a bit of blackening
is okay. The darker they are the crispier and sweeter they are almost like
an onion-potato-chip-ring. Some of the onions will still be moist and
stringy. Those are the ones that most remind you of the inside of regular
onion strings. The crispy bits give you a nice crunch sensation and the
darker deeper flavor.
My husband thought I was a bit off my rocker the first time he saw me make
these that is until he put a few in his mouth. His eyes lit up and for the
next few days he asked for "those onion strings" about every other meal.
Feel free to dip them in ketchup or barbecue sauce if you must. That will blow the diet though and plain is just fine-tasting.

I'm glad it wasn't just me. I'd actually rather make my own, and I
have the little rings to cook the egg with. But my husband has been so
good about not eating places where he knows the food has too many
points for me, so I was trying to make an effort, too. If I say "I
don't want anything, but you go ahead and eat there," he will often
get upset and say "If you aren't eating there, then I'm not either!"
Actually, this is a good thing in some ways-he's overweight and
diabetic (along with his other disabilities) so it is helping him,
too.

I have found the Egg McMuffins to be yucky too. The egg often tastes
rubbery. I'd rather have the WW Smart Ones version.

I feel your pain! Before I got pregnant I was working out every day at the gym at 4:45am, did at least 4 miles on the elliptical, ran on the treadmill and did weights...fast forward to now, I did a 3 mile WATP DVD and felt like I might die this morning LOL!!!

OMG - I haven't worked out since I got pregnant 27 months ago. I used to be in the gym at 5:30 every morning and I walked for a living.
I just did WATP for 1 mile. I wanted so badly to do two miles, but I was winded.

I've started attending meetings mostly to get my hubby involved (to get his
blood sugar levels down so he doesn't have to take insulin).
But interestingly enough, I've lost 3 lbs in the last two weeks. and I
*never* lose that fast. Beginning to believe it's true what they say - that
people who attend meetings lose better.

more miles of running (we did 2.5 during boot camp). Then this afternoon Roy

I am so proud of me!
Last night, hubby called me when I was on the way home from work and said
Marcella was still awake and hungry and he could use something himself so he
asked if I minded stopping at Burger King. So I did but I didn't get
anything myself!
Then today I had to take Marcella with me to my doctor's appointment cuz Bob
forgot I had it and was on a run. He said if he'd remembered, he would have
taken her with him. Anyway, so Marcella wanted McDonald's afterwards. And
boy were a quarter pounder or Big Mac calling to me! But I resisted the urge
and got a Side Salad with Newman's Own Lite Italain dressing (0 points for
salad itself, 1 point for the dressing) and a fruit and yogurt parfait (3
points). I am so proud of me!
I found something at the grocery store today but I didn't eat it yet so
can't tell you for sure, but I think it will be yummy. Yoplait now has a 100
calorie line they call Yoplait Delights and I plugged the info in to my
calculator and they are 2 points. They have caramel something and chocolate
rasberry yogurts. Yum yum. I can't wait to try them. I got the chocolate
rasberry one. There are two more flavors but I can't remember what now. They
come in a pack of 4.

Thank you Barbara! What GREAT information!
I think in some places, heel spurs and pf are consider "the same" but you're
right, bone spurs can be caused from stress fractures that "chip" off little
pieces of bone or that cause bony build up and really are little "spurs"
causing a lot of pain. The stress fractures can be caused by marathoning, if
the person isn't wearing the right shoes or puts on too much mileage too
fast, but just the fact that he did six a year (I did 13 last year) probably
wasn't as important to it as what shoes he had or other biomechanical
issues.
Which is why what you said is RIGHT on...everyone who does any kind of
impact sport; walking for exercise, running, even aerobics, needs to NEVER
EVER buy shoes without an evaluation...and do NOT (I repeat NOT) get them
from Walmart, K-Mart, Volume Shoe Source, etc. The cost of the running shoes
is in the technology. They cost that much because they cost that much! LOL!
(The markup isn't very high.) A cheap shoe is just that, a cheap shoe that
doesn't have what is necessary to provide your foot with proper support.
(That's why Crocs are actually QUITE a deal, if you think about it.)
Even last year's shoes are a bad deal. Running shoes have a "shelf life" of
about 2 years, or 400-500 miles. If you buy last year's shoe, it's sat on
the shelf for a year and in a warehouse for at least six months, so you're
getting a "deal" that won't last long.

13. My Murphy's Law Day- Partially On but Partially OT for Some
Posted by: "Faye Ridpath" ispgypsy@gmail.com fayefromtampa
Date: Mon Aug 3, 2009 9:08 pm ((PDT))
Ok so this is just one of those days where you mostly wish you had never got
out of bed!
For some of you, you may not know this, but I am a type II diabetic. So I
see my doctor every 3 months. So today was appointment day. I had to bring
Marcella, my 9 year old daughter with me cuz Bob, my hubby who is a courier,
was still on a run. He apologized for forgetting about my appointment cuz he
said if he had remembered he would have brought Marcella with him.
Ok so anyway... Since he has never failed to not want me to have blood work
before my appointments, I was surprised when the last time I had seen him he
hadn't wrote me a prescription for that. So... I called the office and the
lady put me on hold and came back and said he didn't want me to do it this
time. I found it very surprising because like I said he *always* wants me to
do it and not only that he just prescibed a new cholesterol med cuz we can't
seem to get my cholesterol lowered so I would have thought he wanted to see
how it was working. But whatever, I went with it.
So today the first thing he says is "So did you do blood work for me?" I
replied "No. The last time I was here, I realized the next day I didn't have
a prescription for that, so I called your office and the lady I spoke to
said you didn't want me to do it." Guys, I must have got someone in trouble
cuz he sprang up out his chair and ran out of the office. Then he came back
and said "Ok so any complaints?" I told him about those two sugar lows and
also that my headaches have been getting very bad and even the prescription
he has me on for them isn't helping lately. He said he is thinking now it
might be sinuses so he told me to open my mouth and do the ahh thing and
then he looked in my ears and said I have a wax build up. So he gave me some
samples of some liquid that's supposed to disolve the wax build up. Then he
said he wants me back in 7 days. But here's the thing if the 7 days is cuz
he wants to see if the wax cleared up, ok fine. But... I went ahead and made
the appointment and then I thought about it after I got home and if I had a
co-pay no way can I pay again 7 days later cuz my copays are $35. We just
can't afford it that soon. So I called and she said "You always have to
pay." So I rescheduled for the following week after my next payday. But
here's the thing like I said if cuz of the wax thing ok fine, but if I'm
paying a co-pay again because his staff misinformed me and so he basically
did nothing today because he had no blood work to look at I don't think I
should have to pay for that. I did my job and asked if I was supposed to be
doing it and had he just forgot and was told no, why should I have to pay
again for *their* mistake???
Ok sorry I know this is already long, so onward we go but I'll try to be
brief... Anyway so he gave me a prescription for blood work. I hadn't ate
yet and had pretty much fasted cuz sometimes he wants to draw blood in his
office so since I was already prepared I figured might as well get it out of
the way cuz I hate hate hate blood work. I get sick and it hurts so bad and
usually I get so bruised from it I look like a domestic violence victim.
So...The lady couldn't find a good vein and it hurt when she kept trying.
Marcella was the sweetest though! I was trying to be brave so I didn't worry
and scare her but it hurt so much guys! So I kept drawing in my breath and
so she made funny faces and did a little dance to try to distract me and
then finally she said "I know it hurts mommy squeeze my hand" and she came
closer and offered her hand to me. What a sweetie! Anyway the phlebotomist
finally had to use the top of my hand cuz she couldn't get a good vein
anywhere.
Ok but there's more! It was *finally* turning into a good day for a few
hours- then. We had a few errands to run so hubby offered to get me Subway
cuz they took longer than expected and it was getting late and I still had
to get ready and pack what I wanted to bring to work tonight. So... The
Subway is in a conveniance store and Marcella asked for a Hershy bar so I
had the Subway guy give me a receipt so I could pay at the main register. So
the lady said "Credit or debit?" I said "Neither, I'm paying cash?" She said
"You can't pay cash at my register so which is it? Credit or debit?" So
finally she sent me back to the Subway guy and he was telling I assume his
manager that he needed her to fix it so I could pay him and she replied "I
don't have to do s***! You do it!" Niiiice.
Ok so that ordeal ended and once again just chillin' till work time and then
I bring diet sodas (in cans) cuz I need to stay awake for this shift. So...
Getting the stuff out of my car and all the sodas fell out of the case all
over the parking lot and 3 cans exploded and all the drink leaked out of
them from it!
<sigh> Well it's officially 3 minutes into a new day now so hopefully this
one will be better!
Sorry this got so long!
