If you look under list rules, it says we're not allowed to talk about
how WW works, and I'm pretty sure it talks about not giving out points
for specific items, since it's Copyriighted info. Hopefully ListMom
Lyn or someone who's been here longer will back me up.

I also was under the impression we could give points out in the Yahoo WW
Groups just not on the eTools message boards on the WW website. I see
points
info in the Yahoo groups all the time.

More than you want to know -
WEIGHT WATCHERS and POINTS are the registered trademarks of Weight Watchers International

That means that only WW can lay claim to the word "points". Trademarks are protected by law in the US so if you go to WW message boards, if you use "points" in a way that say "2 oz of rotisserie chicken is x points", you'll get the message pulled - only WW can tell you the points.

You probably don't recall the two famous lawsuits that occurred in te US - many years ago. We all use the word kleenex for a facial tissue - I mean, who uses the word facial tissue? We also use the word Xerox when we want to copy an item on a macihne. Both of those are trademarks and Kimberly Clark and Xerox went to court to uphold their trademarks. In those cases, the judge ruled that the words had come into common language. Maybe the coproporations waited too long but everybody said "hand me a kleenex" and the judge ruled against those corporations enforcing the trademark.

WW took Lean Cuisine to court about 10 years ago when LC started putting WW points on teh side of packages. The court ruleld that WW did indeed owe the tradmark but that it was a calculation that was available and that WW didn't own the calculation (WW can't own math). But that points values must only be used with clarifying language.

And since trademarks are protected under US law, if you visit the WW British site, or Australian, you'll find that points values are freely given - the trademark restriction is only protected in the US.

So we can give points if we stay within the law - and just giving your value would be breaking the law. So this group wants to stay here nad be safe from prosecution. So we CAN give you points if we say "The number of points provided here was calculated by me based on published Weight Watchers information and does not imply sponsorship or endorsement of the number of points or my answer by Weight Watchers."

Anything else - and who ever adds the above? - is against the law and against the rules of this group.

So I will tell you the points - but must warn you that "The number of points provided here was calculated by me based on published Weight Watchers information and does not imply sponsorship or endorsement of the number of points or my answer by Weight Watchers."

Rotisserie chicken might vary in points based on dark or white meat. 2 oz white meat is 84 calories, 2 gm fat and no fiber. Enter those values into the points - bought from WW - calculator or the points - given at a WW meeting slide - and you get 2 points, udnerstanding that the value was calculated and not an endorsement by WW, which means that some people are wrong.

Rotisserie chicken dark meat is 100 calories, 4 gm fat, and no fiber. Also two points, calculated by me and no endorsement or guarantee of accuracy by WW.

For success in this program, I highly recommend getting one of the two tools WW makes available. If you have your own books, do you have the Complete Food Companion? That should give you points values. If you can't locate it, you wil lhave to dig up the points slider or buy a calculator to convert nutritional values - unless it's a recipe or value from WW itself, the values are suspect -there are a lot of recipes out there with incorrect points values.

And you need to check the above information, too ...

It brings us to a bigger question of the balance between support, which WW is known for - and we're here for you - and understanding and setting your path. Maybe you learn more by playing around with the calculator - I still recall being in line at the cafeteria one time and a teen daughter asking her moter should she get butter or margarine - oh margarine, it had fewer calories. If you get an answer, is it right?

So even the points values given above, if it wasn't listed in the WW materials or given to you by a WW representative, it is only an estimate. You need tools to check the "help" your provided.

Many people find a site called
www.nutritondata.com helpful

I prefer http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/
What one site doesn't have, the other may. We are freely allowed to give nutritional information. Points data is ALWAYS suspect and illegal to provide without the statment required by law.

Barbara,
Thanks for backing me up on the points posting issue. I knew I'd seen
it several times on here before, but I'm glad I wasn't wrong :). I
love my little points calculator! I took it on vacation with me and
the people in Super Target didn't think anything of it, they assumed it
was a calculatr adding prices, I'm sure(it's the small one that looks
like a round calculator). Btw, they are usually more expensive, but
you can buy the calculator on Ebay as well(they are $10 at WW.com) The
slides you are given for free at your first meeting, so if nothing
else, pay for one meeting and get one of those. They were helpful but
too bulky for me, hence why I bought the electronic one.

I just weigh the chicken I am going to eat and use however points it is for
the ounces I am eating. I never eat the skin, so it's just the chicken
breast. I just pull it off, weigh it and count it. I think 1 oz. of
chicken breast equals 1 point.

Hi. I was going to suggest going to at least one meeting if possible, so you can get the basic food book, calculator, and learn the basics of the program.

That's exactly what I do, Jen!

I guess what I need to do instead of that is treat myself to something
non-food. Maybe a pretty fragrance or I love bath gels and those body sprays
or maybe a new outfit... But sometimes a greasy hamburger sounds so much
better! lol

You are right, Carol. I've made even those Morningstar Farms burgers taste
as good as a burger burger. I guess I'm just missing the real stuff cuz it's
been busy this week so hubby and daughter have been doing a lot of fast food
and stuff and it got me to have cravings!

It is quite a challenge when the family is doing the fast food stuff or when they are having food cravings...My honey loves it when I'm gone for a meal and he can cook or buy food at the Deli..That way I don't eat it....We can meet the challenge by don't good stuff for ourselves....perfume, bath gell, mani or pedicure....etc etc

It is! We live in the middle of nowhere, along a lake, so there are a few different roads out to the "main" road and each are about 2-10 miles long.

I have a
serious health issue called obesity. It is currently controlled, but as soon
as I let go of that control I can fall right back into old habits.

This is such a great comment because it is so true!

I just listened to your latest podcast. When you were telling us the roller coaster story I thought, "I always worry that I wont fit in the seat!". Keep the podcasts coming!

11.1. Re: Weigh-In
Posted by: "Annie Littlewolf" mkdebord@comcast.net robindebord
Date: Mon Aug 17, 2009 10:16 pm ((PDT))

Hi All! I'm a bit worried about tomorrow's weigh-in. This past week, I've eaten my full portion of points every day, and one day, I used up some of my extra 35 points for dinner out. So I am expecting a gain, and that depresses me. I usually leave some of my points not eaten, I get 25 points per day, and this "little old lady" is on lifetime, and she gets 18 points per day - she is much shorter than I am, and quite a bit older than me (I'm 56), but I thought I'd try to go 18 points for a day, and it was HARD! I don't know how she does it. But I always tried to go for only 20 points per day, hoping to hasten along my losing pounds. But this past week was nothing like that. I ate like I was starving. Didn't go over on points, but was right on them, except for the dinner out, and I didn't go crazy, just had some barbecue (no bun) and a small order of baked french fries. (I guess they were baked frozen fries.) So I don't think I used up all of my 35 points on that.
But the bad thing that I did, was got caught up on thinking that maybe I should join up with Nutrisystem and have the food mailed to me. So I called in, and got it set up, but I don't use credit cards nor PayPal, I was going to write a check at the first of the month, so they were going to hold my order until they got my check. Thank goodness. My daughter and son-in-law came over and saw my notes on Nutrisystem, and said NO, MOM! Their food tastes like cardboard, and good luck on returning anything to them. They knew = because my son-in-law's mom had tried Nutrisystem but couldn't take the cardboard taste of the food, and tried to return it, and they gave her all kinds of hassles, and it took months to get her refund. So today, I called in and cancelled my order (it hadn't been prepared yet), and I am out of their system. SCHWOO!!!!!!!! I figured that WW was the way to go, because I had to learn how to eat and buy foods in this world, and maintain my goal weight on my own, not by pre-packed food, but out of food in my cabinets and refrigerator. That's the only way I can live to learn a new lifestyle.
Sorry to rant on, but I just had to get this OUT of me! Thanks for listening.
Annie

12a. WW points calculator online...
Posted by: "mb4las" mb4las@att.net mb4las

I have a google homepage and one of the add gadgets is a WW points calculator. I just googled Weight Watchers points calculator and they are online to use for anyone that needs the information.

My understanding of the points info is that the points allowed for different weights is what is just WW so should not be passed around. They are also possibly available online if googled. With the internet many things are available even though they shouldn't be. It really isn't fair for some, but it's happening.

It's kind of like the pepperoni roll. One person started it but just a
slight variation and anyone can put them out. It keeps the monopoly out of
things. Personally, I think it's great, there are many I'm sure who just
cannot afford calculators, meetings, online etc. -they rely on what the
read here and measure items that are currently used in the home within their
budget. I have always been able to attend and/or purchase what I needed
from WW but I do know others who are not.

Has anyone tried those Ziplock Zip and Steam bags? I am a non cook but even
I can do something with those! lol

I just tried one for the first time today putting broccoli and culiflower in
it... I wanted it to have a little zing so I added red pepper flakes...
But... I got a little carried away. I didn't realize a little goes a long
way when it comes to that! lol Talk about 5 alarm fire!
