Yummy dinner...low in points!

Date:

Tue, 18 Aug 2009 19:16:16 -0400

Hi everyone. I just had to share what I made tonight for dinner. It
came to 7 points but I am following SFT, so I didn't have to count
ANY(YEAH!!) I got the recipe from a Great American Recipes card that I
mother has had for ages and never used so i stole a bunch of them(there
are like 300!) Not many are WW friendly, but this was one so I tried it
and it's worth the work!

Garden Rosemary Chicken
4 servings
Prep time: 15 mins
Frying time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:
1 frying chicken cut up 3 lbs or 3 lbs chicken thighs(I used chicken
leg quarters)
2 egg whites, lightly beaten
1/2 c all-pur
pose flour
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tsp dried rosemary
3 Tbs butter or margarine(I used Parkay Spray to make it SF)
tomato wedges for garnish

Instructions:
1. SKin the chicken pieces or thighs.
2. Combine flour, salt, black pepper, and rosemary. Beat the egg
whites.
3. Dip the chicken pieces in the egg white, then roll in the flour
mixture.
4. Let chicken pieces dry for a few minutes.
5. Heat butter in a skillet.
6. Brown chicken, a few pieces at a time, in butter. Remove. Brown next
batch.
7. Return to skilelt. Fry chicken for another 5-10 minutes, then reduce
heat. Cover with lid.
8. Cook chicken over medium to low heat until cooked through, about 20
minutes or until juices run clear when pierced with a fork(mine took
maybe 10 minutes).
9. Remove to hot serving dish. Sprinkle with some extra rosemary if
desired. Garnish with tomatoes.

They recommend seving with rice or noodles, but I used a baked potato.
VERY filling and worth the effort. My pick DD even ate it! I didn't use
as much flour as they said, although I measured it out, so I didn't
count the points(we only have to count pts for non-FF). This recipe
made 5 servings for me even though they say 4, and I only used 38 oz of
chicken (inlcuding bones), so it would've been less points if I was
counting points.

Let me
know how you like it if you try it! If I try another recipe and
like it, I'll pass it along(not too many point-friendly ones in the
bunch, even less SFT ones)
Melissa
222.4/169/115

PS I was good today, ate ALL SF foods and didn't have to use ANY of my
WPAs! Earned 2 APs for swimming in the pool, so that was nice.

Hey Toddlermom!

This has nothing to do with this recipe you shared but I'm glad to see I'm
not the only one that keeps sending to serious_weight_watchers instead of
serious-weight-watchers and getting my messages bounced back!

Kristen,
Congrats on getting a new car, what kind did you get? I've *NEVER* had
a brand new car(not that I really care, but newer than 12 would be nice
LOL), so congrats! Good job on the 4 lbs and exercising every day.
Every little bit helps. I try to do something everyday as well, even
if it's just walking around the neighborhood. I just joined the YMCA
last week and have been there about 5 times, swimming, weight lifting,
and using the cardio machines. Even with going on a second vacation
last week I managed to lose 0.4 this week, so I guess it was a good
move :).
Have a good week
Melissa

Hi Kelley,
Yes, I've got a Target store close by. Not a Super Target. I've got a super Wal-mart, though. I'll be on the look-out for the ice cream sandwiches. Thanks for the tip!

Hi Jen!
My daily points went down last week, when I passed into the 210's. So now I get 25 points instead of 26. At first, that seemed like a huge loss, but now it is hard to get the 25 points in for the day. I rarely use the extra 35 points, unless something unusual happens - like the kids come over and want some pizza delivered. I don't eat any of those 100 calorie packs - those seem so wasteful, not only on calories, but also on packaging - more to add to the landfill. Plus, I don't like Oreos that much, or anything that comes in those 100 calories packs. I like the WW yogurt, and bananas, and dates. And absolutely no fast foods. I've never tried string cheese - I'll have to do that. And sometimes I steam a bag of frozen vegetables in the microwave, and then eat the whole bagful, when I feel a need to feel really full.
This is my last time for WW. I'm going to lose the weight, and keep it off. After I reach lifetime, I'm still going to come to the weekly meetings, because I need the accountability, and the support.
My DH is a skinny minny normally - he doesn't have to watch what he eats. He truly eats only to live. He has said so many times, that if he could get by without eating, he'd rather do it that way. But he has a few of my recipes that he really likes, so I try to make them often enough, and serve myself a smaller portion, though I could wolf down a huge amount. I find that if I go brush my teeth after I eat a meal, that it stops me from snacking mindlessly, because I like the minty taste in my mouth. It feels clean and I don't want to mess it up.
Good luck to all in this group on their WW journey.
Annie

1. The points you get when you start are the MINIMUM points you need to eat every single day! As you lose weight, your daily points decrease.

2. The 35 weekly points are there for you to use them, I usually use most of mine and when I follow the program, I still lose.

3. Try eating more filling foods instead of wasting your money on 100 calorie packs or other crap foods. My snacks are fruit, yogurt, string cheese or vegetables. I gained all my weight eating crap, I'm not going back to it!

Good luck with your weigh in and WW :)

Subject: Re: [Serious-Weight-Watchers] Weigh-In

Hi All! I'm a bit worried about tomorrow's weigh-in. This past week, I've eaten my full portion of points every day, and one day, I used up some of my extra 35 points for dinner out. So I am expecting a gain, and that depresses me. I usually leave some of my points not eaten, I get 25 points per day, and this "little old lady" is on lifetime, and she gets 18 points per day - she is much shorter than I am, and quite a bit older than me (I'm 56), but I thought I'd try to go 18 points for a day, and it was HARD! I don't know how she does it. But I always tried to go for only 20 points per day, hoping to hasten along my losing pounds. But this past week was nothing like that. I ate like I was starving. Didn't go over on points, but was right on them, except for the dinner out, and I didn't go crazy, just had some barbecue (no bun) and a small order of baked french fries. (I guess they were baked frozen fries.) So I don't think I used up all of my 35
points on that.
But the bad thing that I did, was got caught up on thinking that maybe I should join up with Nutrisystem and have the food mailed to me. So I called in, and got it set up, but I don't use credit cards nor PayPal, I was going to write a check at the first of the month, so they were going to hold my order until they got my check. Thank goodness. My daughter and son-in-law came over and saw my notes on Nutrisystem, and said NO, MOM! Their food tastes like cardboard, and good luck on returning anything to them. They knew = because my son-in-law's mom had tried Nutrisystem but couldn't take the cardboard taste of the food, and tried to return it, and they gave her all kinds of hassles, and it took months to get her refund. So today, I called in and cancelled my order (it hadn't been prepared yet), and I am out of their system. SCHWOO!!!!!!!! I figured that WW was the way to go, because I had to learn how to eat and buy foods in this world, and maintain
my goal weight on my own, not by pre-packed food, but out of food in my cabinets and refrigerator. That's the only way I can live to learn a new lifestyle.
Sorry to rant on, but I just had to get this OUT of me! Thanks for listening.

I AGREE 100%. For me, having those 100 calorie pkgs of cookies or other
things are trigger foods. Others can have one and be totally satisfied.
It's scary for me to have anything in the house that could trigger me into a
binge!

Subject: Re: [Serious-Weight-Watchers] Weigh-In

Hi All! I'm a bit worried about tomorrow's weigh-in. This past week, I've
eaten my full portion of points every day, and one day, I used up some of my
extra 35 points for dinner out. So I am expecting a gain, and that depresses
me. I usually leave some of my points not eaten, I get 25 points per day,
and this "little old lady" is on lifetime, and she gets 18 points per day -
she is much shorter than I am, and quite a bit older than me (I'm 56), but I
thought I'd try to go 18 points for a day, and it was HARD! I don't know how
she does it. But I always tried to go for only 20 points per day, hoping to
hasten along my losing pounds. But this past week was nothing like that. I
ate like I was starving. Didn't go over on points, but was right on them,
except for the dinner out, and I didn't go crazy, just had some barbecue (no
bun) and a small order of baked french fries. (I guess they were baked
frozen fries.) So I don't think I used up all of my 35
points on that.
But the bad thing that I did, was got caught up on thinking that maybe I
should join up with Nutrisystem and have the food mailed to me. So I called
in, and got it set up, but I don't use credit cards nor PayPal, I was going
to write a check at the first of the month, so they were going to hold my
order until they got my check. Thank goodness. My daughter and son-in-law
came over and saw my notes on Nutrisystem, and said NO, MOM! Their food
tastes like cardboard, and good luck on returning anything to them. They
knew = because my son-in-law's mom had tried Nutrisystem but couldn't take
the cardboard taste of the food, and tried to return it, and they gave her
all kinds of hassles, and it took months to get her refund. So today, I
called in and cancelled my order (it hadn't been prepared yet), and I am out
of their system. SCHWOO!!!!!!!! I figured that WW was the way to go, because
I had to learn how to eat and buy foods in this world, and maintain
my goal weight on my own, not by pre-packed food, but out of food in my
cabinets and refrigerator. That's the only way I can live to learn a new
lifestyle.
Sorry to rant on, but I just had to get this OUT of me! Thanks for
listening.

I liked the idea that i could have a treat every once in a while if i stayed within my points but now i wonder if i can do that because of the insulin resistance that i have.

Tanya, I am a Type 2 Diabetic. I have been doing WW for 6 weeks, and have lost 10 lbs. as of today. My blood sugar levels were so high for so long, I thought if I lost some weight it had to be good for my overall diabetic health.

The first two days, my blood sugar levels never got under 200.....but then the third day, they started dropping and dropping, and I am now often in the normal range now during the day, as well as sometimes 130-140 when I wake up. These are numbers I have not seen for close to 5 years!!! I am eating fruit, yogurt, cereal and milk, WW goodies, and loving it.........lol. Of course, I am eating protein and veggies as well. Prior to WW, I ate mostly protein and veggies and still had high levels..........

So I would say, although the WW way of eating is not set up for diabetics, and often doesn't seem like what we are used to doing, I think overall it is great for our bodies to loose the weight, and then the blood sugar levels will fall in line. I can only speak from my own personal experience.
