Hi there,
I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Tania and I have been on WW several times and recently now for six weeks. I am totally pumped up about the program and am loving riding the high, because I know from experience it isn't always like that. I am on WW etools and have a blog, my screen name is TANKLAN, if any of you use that. I also have a blog and you can find me at http://babyshoes3.blogspot.com/
I also attend meetings!
I know that you need support from all different avenues and so I am trying to surround myself as much as possible to succeed in my goal for a healthy life. I would love to get to ya'll!

3.1. File - List Rules
Posted by: "Serious-Weight-Watchers@yahoogroups.com" Serious-Weight-Watchers@yahoogroups.com
Date: Sun Aug 23, 2009 7:03 am ((PDT))
List Rules
1) NO discussion about sugar substitutes. This is one of the hottest topics and people are extremely opinionated. If you're concerned about sugar substitutes, hit Google. Don't discuss it here. You may share recipes with sugar substitutes and you may ask which bakes the best, etc., but NO discussion about health aspects. Do your own research and come to your own conclusions.
2) NO discussion of how Weight Watchers works. Can't come here and have us teach you the program. Most of the members here are paying members and Weight Watchers has a copyright on their information. They have a great program and deserve their financial compensation. So we won't tell you how the program works. Join up and get the materials for yourself!
3) NO solicitation for money. Period. Ever.
4) Be nice. Play nice. Share, share, share!
5) If you think you're still on moderated status, chances are you probably are. Email me privately at Serious-Weight-Watchers-owner@yahoogroups.com and put MODERATION in the subject line. Then ask to be taken off moderation. This is one busy group with over 5000 members, and taking people off moderated status is often times put on the back burner. Only make this request if you've been a member of the group for a month and have posted a few times.
6) If you want to discuss OT stuff, join the group set up by Kerry and Sherri. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/SWW-OTdiscussion/
7) Don't write a post to the group announcing you're leaving because you're upset about X, Y or Z at the group. People who do this are trying to stir things up. The funny thing is, as moderators, we know when people unsub. Those that try to stir the pot and announce they're leaving never do! They send a post, trying to cause problems, then stay and watch. When you see this behavior here or at other groups, know you're dealing with trolls or people with no class.
8) If you have a problem with the group, email the moderators. Don't post it to the group. Serious-Weight-Watchers-owner@yahoogroups.com
Thanks,
Lyn

I just have such a hard time with stress. And I know I use it as an excuse sometimes. Yesterday my husband and oldest son went overseas to visit his family and I was just a ball of stress with the plane trip and all. So I had a little indulgent day. But, I don't want to think on that and I want to focus on this day and get back OP. Hope everyone has a great day. :)

I know exactly what you mean about gaining all the weight back, many of us
have done that to ourselves and now in our menopause years, it's just such a
struggle to lose anything anymore.
It's just a "Catch 22". Depression causes weight gain and weight gain
causes depression. but if you can give yourself the time (sometimes only a
week) to REALLY eat ONLY HEALTHY food, you can stop the cycle. It is just
AMAZING how good you feel and look (even if you haven't lost a ton of weight
yet). Once you start eating healthy consistently, I can guarantee the rest
falls in place. BUT, getting to that point that you're ready to commit is
all up to you. I have only lost 12 pounds in 6 weeks, but I can't believe
how much better I feel about myself. I'm obviously still wearing the same
clothes, but somehow I just feel better and feel like I look better. Even
if others aren't noticing, I don't care because I FEEL GOOD.
Good Luck Kerri - you came to the right place. PS: going to the meetings and
STAYING for the meetings this time has helped me immensely!

Hi Kerri,
I too am just starting WW (tomorrow) and have been down lately too. I weigh more now then I ever have in my life, and my 7 year old daughter died July 11th. I have to start somewhere though, and know this group will help. I don't have the money to go to meetings, but I got more support from groups like this when I did it a few years ago. I look forward to making this journey with you and the others here!! We are in this together!! And I will be at it for a while, because I have a LOT of weight to lose!!
Happy thoughts and well wishes being sent your way,

7a. Intro/weekly weigh in
Posted by: "trw422" trw422@yahoo.com trw422
Date: Sun Aug 23, 2009 4:45 pm ((PDT))
Hi everyone,
I have been lurking for about a week and thought it was time to jump in/make myself more accontable.
I am a teacher currently trying to take off weight. I have been losing/gaining the same 5 pounds for about 3 years, even though I have much more to lose. The straw that broke the camels back is when I gained 6 pounds after I started taking cholesterol meds and can't get the scale to budge no matter what. So here I am reading and posting with you hoping for success.
Starting weight: 171.0
Goal weight: 150.0
Current weight: 170.6
As this is my first week, I was a bit disappointed, but I am reading all of your posts trying to stay positive and remind myself that I did not get here in a week, so I won't lose it in a week either.
Thanks for being such an uplifting group.

Welcome, trw (you didn't put what your name was). This group is very
uplifting and supportive. I've enjoyed my time here.
Just keep on point and you will see the weight come off. And maybe the
cholestoral, too. Mine was a little high when I went for my yearly
physical, but when my doctor heard I was on WW he didn't even talk to
me about going on the medicine! He said this eating plan would take
care of it!

Hi there trw, I am Melissa, and I, too am a teacher, although I'm a sub
at the moment until I can find a permanent job(I just moved to DE in
June and haven't been able to find a job yet :(). I am certified in
Special Education Birth-age 21. What do you teach? Where are you
located?(just curious). I have been on WW since 6/14/07 and have lost
53.4 lbs so far, although I've been juggling the same 7 lbs for almost
a year, so I know where you're coming from! I don't have cholestrol or
BP problems, but it runs in my family, so I'm trying to avoid it at all
costs(along with heart disease, which also runs in the family).
Good luck this week.

Ginny -
I guess missing the air races this year is minor in the grand scheme of
things. Get yourself better so you can see them next year. Thoughts and
prayers are with you.

Subject: [Serious-Weight-Watchers] Medical Update
Hi Gang,
Well I saw both the radiologist and the oncologist this week. The Mets(
that is what they call the crap on the brain) has gone down. The radiation
will continue to work for the next few months so they will do another MRI
in the beginning of October.
I will start chemo some time next week. They want to see about putting a
port in first. I will have chemo one week and be off 3 weeks. They will
do this for 2 months and then do a ct on the chest to see how it is working.
Looks like I will not know much more till October then whey test me again.
For now I am tired---I poop out pretty early. Take naps not at all like
me. Guess I may have over done on the cruise. So in the mean time it is
just rest. They do want me to walk if I can in the mornings to help get the
circulation back into my calves and feet.
My feet are back to normal but the bod and face are still puffy. The
timing for the chemo looks like it will interfere with the air races--- :( I
might have to miss this year.
Hope all of you are well.
Huggs and love--

I know you may have been hurt, but the fact is it IS water weight. But
it is
IMPORTANT water weight.
When you are living an unhealthy life; overeating, sedentary,
overweight,
you end up going into this inflammation "mode" where your body
responds to
all of the abuses you're heaping on it (and by "you" I mean all of us
who
have done this, which is pretty much all of us, not YOU specifically)
with
acute inflammation. This eventually (along with all of the other
metabolic
things going on related to it) damages your cells causing those
"lifestyle
related illnesses" we all hear so much about; Type II diabetes, heart
disease, etc. It's a lot more complicated than that, but suffice to
say
acute inflammation in the body=Very Bad Thing long term because your
body is
continually fighting to fix itself while you continue to damage it.
So when you lose a great deal of weight the first week or two of a
diet what
you're seeing is some fat, but you're also seeing "water weight". In
truth
it's your body saying "Oh thank you SO much for the relief! I can stop
fighting now!" and the inflammation decreases dramatically. So while
it's
frustrating to hear "water weight" it is GOOD water weight! You WANT
to do
that! It means your body is going into a repair mode and out of the
fighting
mode. It's not just "I ate too much salt on my popcorn" water weight.

Thanks for this information, and all the other help from everyone.
Regarding the shoes, I wasn't looking for one to wear while walking or
going to the gym. I can't wear street sole shoes on the ballet floor
where I take belly dance lessons, that is why we always do it
barefooted or with socks. I was asking if anyone knew about some type
of shoe with the slick type sole like a ballet shoe, only with
something that would cushion the heel.
What are ballet slippers like? Do they have any type of support or
cushion in the heel?
I so badly want to get back to my belly dance lessons, but don't want
to injure the foot again.

I agree with Joanne. There are aparatus you can wear while sleeping
that can
help. It takes a LOT of time to treat PF. It really does. Here's an
excellent medical website on it:
http://www.aafp. <http://www.aafp.org/afp/20010201/467.html>
org/afp/20010201/467.html
This is the apparatus:
http://www.alimed.
t,18065,276.htm>
com/Alimed/product/FREEDOMreg-Dorsal-PF-Night-Splint,18065,276.htm
Basically it holds your foot into a position so it doesn't allow the
fascia
to relax during the night and tighten up. Instead it's held "tight" so
that
when you wake up you don't have that initial feeling of walking on
glass.
DEFINITELY shoes are important. Go to a good running store...avoid
chains
(except Road Runner Sports or Fleet Feet) and talk at length with a
TRAINED
associate who can evaluate your gait. Wear those shoes all the time
that is
possible because they'll provide the support your need. NEVER go
barefoot...ever. Not sure about light shoes with support, but talking
with
the instructor is a very good idea. You may be able to find someone
who can
teach you to tape your feet as well. Ballet dancers often suffer from
PF and
use taping inside the shoes to help.
Give it a lot of time, be patient, and do NOT give up on any of the
treatments. Keep taking the NSAIDs and doing the exercises.
