Dittos here from me too - too many doctors just want to give their patients
medications for anything and everything, and sometimes the very best thing
you can do is exercise and eat right. Some foods can be stressors too!

I agree with Lyn.
One thing most people don't understand is that supplements are not
tested nor regulated by the FDA. We think they are safe because a
drugstore sells them, but they may not be. Rarely have there been any
long term studies, and nothing remotely close to the testing that FDA
approval requires.
Exercise is my therapy and stress reliever as well.

Hi Kelley,
While I agree with you ... there is also the flip side to that equation. So
many patients go to their doctors demanding a "magic bullet". I have a
friend here who is 5 feet even, 350 pounds and harassed her doctor for 6
months for a diet pill. The doctor finally caved and gave it to her ... for
one month only. Since she's gotten the pill she's not changed her eating
one bit. I'm sure when she goes back and the doctor refuses her the next
prescription it's all going to be the doctor's fault that she doesn't lose
weight!
Hugs,
Babette

I have a lot of reasons to lose weight, but one of them is to cut back on the pills. I take 7 pills a day, and all but 3 or 4 of them may be unnecessary after I lose weight. The pills include a daily low-dose aspirin and a multivitamin, and those aren't going anywhere. But many of the health issues I have are related to the weight and I'd rather be healthy than a pill-popper.

Well hopefully the fact that when I bought some clothes at Wal-Mart and
could fit into a size... Medium! :-), anyway hopefully that will inspire me
to stay on track so I can stay that size and not go back to the plus sizes.

Yeah, Faye!! A medium, how awesome!!!
My husband was looking at me in my jeans a couple days ago and told me
I really needed to buy some new ones-I can get into them and out of
them without unbuttoning or unzipping now, and there is so much extra
room in the seat and legs.
I know I have some smaller jeans somewhere, but don't know if they are
in the storage unit, in the attic or in the closet in my son's old
bedroom. I can't get into the closet right now due to my daughter's
stuff that has spilled out of her bedroom into that room, but she is
moving into her own apartment this week, so I'm not going to bother
looking in there right now. I'll check once she moves her stuff out.
And, hey, who am I to argue when I'm told to go buy new clothes!!!
I just wish Wal-mart would carry some other types of clothes besides
Just My Size in the women's department. I used to love the White Stag
they carried, but (at least our Wal-marts) are now only carrying JMS.
I hate that, and have written two strong e-mails about it to Wal-mart.
Told them I used to find a blouse, pants, something almost every time
I've gone into Wal-mart to buy, now I've gone 15 times (I've been
keeping track so I can update my e-mails to them) without buying
anything. I find JMS doesn't fit the same as the White Stag did, they
appear cheaper made, and WHO THE HECK DESIGNS THEIR CLOTHES?? Very few
of them are designed with the full figure in mind-high waistlines
(makes me look pregnant), elastic in the short, puffy sleeves
(accentuates the fat on my arms and makes my bust-line look even
larger), elastic or bands around the hips, sometimes with a ruffled
piece below, etc. Plus, there are very few items I could wear to work,
even with a business casual dress code (I have to think about getting
back in the work force). White Stag always had some nice, dressy tops.
Thanks for letting me vent.

It is the same way at walmart now even in the other departments. I think evverything is geared towards teenagers and now you can't find anything decent!

Claudia,
I completely agree on Walmart clothes. I went shopping for vacation
and wound up going to Target because they had NOTHING I liked that fit
me properly. I, too, loved the White Stag clothes, and $5 for a pair
of shorts was awesome! I also don't shop at Super Walmart much for
food like I used to because their produce started going bad for me the
next day! I bought strawberries one day(in MD) and it was a little
warm but NOT hot outside(this was maybe May). I took them STRAIGHT
home since I also had skim milk, yogurt, ice cream, etc in the car. I
lived maybe 10 minutes from the store. Well, I opened them on Monday
morning to put them in my cereal an they were ALL MOLDY! I mean, 3
days later? That's RIDICULOUS! I took it back to the store(even
moldy) and showed the manager my receipt, and her reply was "You
must've not taken then straight home." I was like, LOOK, I live *10*
minutes from here, and ALL THE REST of my groceries are FINE(including
the frozen stuff), so OBVIOUSLY it's YOUR PRODUCE. She gave me a free
batch, but I stopped buying strawberries from them from that day on.
Most of the time the local grocery stores have them cheaper, and if
not, I go to the farmer's market or I do without. Just the hassle
turned me off.

Melissa,
I quit buying produce at my Super Wal-Mart a long time ago for the same
reason. It just doesn't last. I do pay a little more for it at Harris
Teeter, but not much more, and it lasts MUCH longer.
I had some Colby-jack cheese slices go bad way before the expiration date
once - from Harris Teeter - and they were very gracious and very apologetic,
and replaced the package right away. Wal Mart used to be friendly with
returns, but not so much anymore.

must've not taken then straight home." I was like, LOOK, I live *10*
minutes from here, and ALL THE REST of my groceries are FINE(including
the frozen stuff), so OBVIOUSLY it's YOUR PRODUCE. She gave me a free
batch, but I stopped buying strawberries from them from that day on.
Most of the time the local grocery stores have them cheaper, and if
not, I go to the farmer's market or I do without. Just the hassle
turned me off.

Congratulations on the leaner clothing! That must be a great feeling.
Speaking of inspiration, you're a good inspiration for ME. I haven't even thought yet of dropping dress sizes (what the heck's a "dress"? *smile*) but knowing that you did it inspires me to keep trying!

Well hopefully the fact that when I bought some clothes at Wal-Mart and
could fit into a size... Medium! :-), anyway hopefully that will inspire me
to stay on track so I can stay that size and not go back to the plus sizes.

Faye,
I'm with you on the McDonald's. My kids LOVE to eat there, and most of
the time I'm not able/willing to resist, although I do *TRY* to get a
Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad(4pts plus dressing) and a Diet Coke. I
did try those Angus burgers, and while they were good, they are NOT
worth the points! It was on the FL vacation when I gained almost 7
lbs(mostly from TOM) so I didn't waste points again, but I won't do it
again. I used to eat a Double 1/4 Lber with Cheese Meal before joining
WW(2 years ago, yup haven't had one since!), and I looked it up one day
and the whole meal, with regular soda was *54* points! YIKES! Scary
thing is, I would eat those at LEAST once a week before WW! I don't
even want one anymore after looking up the points. If I want a burger
now, I get the Big N Tasty no cheese no mayo. It's still like 9
points, I think, but it's better than the other one. I also don't get
fries(or a small if I have the points) and I ALWAYS get a Diet Soda.
I'm also trying to get my kids to eat healthier, so we hardly go to
McDonald's anymore, plus with me not working all summer, $$$ was REALLY
tight, so I use the excuse that I don't have the money(job doesn't
start till 9/14). We do buy the frozen nuggets from the grocery store,
since you can get about 50 of those for the price of a 10 piece at
McD's! That's another way to save money.
I have gone, over the 2 years, from an 18/20 W to a 12/14. I also tell
myself before I think of really splurging to think about how big I was
and how embarassing it felt to not fit into 'normal' clothes. Works
about 75% of the time!
Have a great week.

Melissa, thanks so much for that dose of reality! Looks like you covered the bases with that post, lol... and congrats on your success!! Not to mention teaching your children to be healthy. WTG! Building a strong support group at the same time. Proud of you!

I agree a great part of our losing weight is to help our children and grand children to eat healthy. I have 3 children who were young when I made lifetime 35 yrs ago and I am so proud of the way that they eat and also feed their famlies...They are not food Nazi's they eat everything in moderation....Our children are our future lets keep them healthy as we lose weight.

5.1. Not my best day yesterday

I made my egg rolls yesterday for the first time since I have been on
Weight Watchers and there is a good reason for that. I make the
world's best egg rolls, and they are addictive. I think if you gave my
husband his choice of any of the food I make (which is extensive) egg
rolls would be his favorite.
The egg rolls themselves aren't too bad.lean ground beef, cabbage,
carrots, celery, bell peppers, bean sprouts.but then you fry them..my
daughter and I tried baking some, ala Hungry Girl recipe, but I
couldn't deal with them baked. So I added an extra two points to the
calculation I made for the egg roll (1 point for the ground beef,
which is minimal in each egg roll, and 1 point for the wrapper) for
the grease it was fried in. Still not too bad at four points a piece,
but I ate three of them, along with pepper steak and rice.
Do you all think the two extra points was about right for the added
grease? Too much? Too little?
I went over my daily points, but the first time this week (week starts
on Tuesdays) I dipped into my weekly points, so I'm OK.
I just know that egg rolls are going to have to be one of those
special meals I don't make often..because the leftover egg rolls are
calling me..so far I've ignored them!
The next special meal I make for my husband that I can't resist will
be German. He says if I will cook him one of these "special" meals
once a month, he won't say anything about all the broiled, grilled,
etc., foods we eat the rest of the time!!! I don't see too many places
I can trim down Jaegarschnitzel and spatzle..One of the reasons we
don't go to our favorite lunch place any more-it's German and there
isn't a darn thing on the menu that wouldn't take up over half of my
daily points!

Claudia,
That's the joy of WW, if you watch your points, you CAN have the items
you and your DH love, you just have to eat LESS of it. If you know
you're going to be making a special item that's high in points, just
make sure you save some WPAs for it and/or use your APs. That's what
they're there for.

What about putting the recipes in the recipe builder? It is alot of work but once it is done you can get a point count..also save you points. We really can fit things into ww just not the portions we were use to. I am going to check out my honeys' favorite cabbage rolls and stuffed red peppers....We are having a heat wave here and Jack is thinking winter food...

I use the recipe builder a lot, but just don't know how to add the
fact that I deep fried the item. Do I add a teaspoon of oil, a
tablespoon of oil, what???

Faye-that is now I am about Curves. When I was looking for a place to
work out, I stopped by there and the skinny woman who was there at the
time was so rude to me, I never went back.
A good leader makes all the difference. Years ago I had thought of
joining
WW so I stopped by a meeting to ask questions and the receptionist was
so
rude I just left. I was totally turned off. But tried again and now I
am a
