Tara,

If you can find a way to fit it into your budget at all I *highly* recommend
going to meetings. The support really helps. I tried to do it on my own too
for awhile for the same reason, finances. I gained back everything I lost
and then some! So hubby and I tweaked our budget and found a way for me to
go back and I am back on track.

I think it's not a one size fits all. Some people don't need meetings.
Others rely on them as support. There are lots of areas of support out
there, though, if you can't afford meetings. There is this mailing list, the
WWers site has message boards (some are very nice, others are scary...you
figure out where to go and where to avoid quickly), there is TONS of
information.
I think a lot also depends on what kind of support you have in your life.
For me, I was fortunate that my husband and I agreed that we were BOTH
changing our lives, not just me. He was also 100 lbs overweight and lost
along with me. Even if your family isn't in need of a "diet" everyone can
benefit from eating healthier, moving more, and eliminating a majority of
the junk food. I think it's WAY too difficult to play "my food/your food"
game. Time and again I've seen people fall into a bag of cookies or donuts
that they had "for the kids" when, I don't care if your kid is STICK THIN,
no one "needs" them.

If you can afford meetings and are a meeting type, do it! They are the BEST
for support, but as has been evidenced by many people, do not OVERdepend on
any one support in your life. Build a web of support. (I wasn't planning on
"advertising" but I did record a podcast on how to build a web of support.)
That way if you can no longer afford meetings, you won't regain. You'll
shift into non-meeting mode, adjust, and continue to eat/live healthy.

Just spray with a little Olive Oil, and put on the grill. Turn to grill
evenly. Remove when it's a deep green and not quite fork tender.
If you want to do it under the broiler, same deal just watch it. It can take
(in a hot oven) from 5-10 minutes.

We have a file that posts every so often that lists some rules of the group.

I'm going to have to add two:

No posting requests for votes. (For critters, for friends, for cute kid pictures, etc.) It's just too off topic and the group is too large.

Secondly, no forwards. I know they're cool, but they're best for friends. We really need to keep on topic here. We don't allow attachments here anyway, so a lot of the cool graphics don't come through.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

I think this group runs really well because we keep the off topic stuff out. That doesn't mean we can't be friendly and warm--that's best done with words, celebrating each others' victories, giving support when needed, etc.

Thanks!

Listmom Lyn

I will follow the rules. I tend to forget which groups, even though they
have a specific purpose, don't mind OT things and which do...

I guess maybe I shouldn't tell the stories about what my daughter says here
either?

Thank you Jen. I didn't realize it was still on the Weight Watchers site!
That was a GREAT weekend. They flew me to New York, did the whole makeup and
photoshoot thing. I felt like a STAR! Plus everyone there was SO nice.
That's part of the reason you might see me show up in a magazine every now
and again. Once you're a success story they will contact you every year, get
an official weigh in, and then send your story out. I think they like to
hear stories of people who have not only lost it, but kept it off.
Six years and counting at my goal weight!

I LOVE Ritter Sport bars any of them...Martizapan is my fav...but I digress.....I break them up into the tiny little pieces that they are scored into and put them in a zip lock freezer bag....I place them in the freezer and when I do really well I enjoy 1 piece...and put them right back in the freezer.  I understand your  husband he loves you and wants to see you happy....he knows what made you happy in the past and is still of the mindset that this will make you smile.  I don't for one minute think he feels you will fail....I think he is looking for that instant smile he used to get when the Ritter Sport was pulled from the bag.....Smile thank him and then put it in the freezer...outta site outta mind.....I know you can do this,,,I wish I was where you are.....I have so far to go.....Sherry

Thanks, Sherry, I know you are right. A friend, who is an RN,
suggested it might be the steroid shot I got for my heel spur/plantar
faciitis. I didn't think one shot would still be affecting me that
way. I'm waiting to hear back from her.

But I'm not going to get discouraged. I got mad at my husband in the
grocery store today (military commissary) as he bought me a candy bar
(Ritter bar, from Germany) to put back "just in case you get chocolate
hungry." Sometimes he is so supportive, and sometimes so frustrating,
too. I got mad, but hurt, too, because I felt as if he was saying to
me he didn't think I'd make it. Well, you know what, I shrugged it
off, going to try and forget about the chocolate bar even being in the
house, and it has made me even more determined to show him I CAN DO
THIS!!!

My daughter was on vacation last week visiting her brother,
sister-in-law and niece and nephew, so she didn't weigh in last week,
but this week she had lost 3.2 pounds. She was happy and I was happy
for her. She was a little worried.

After being almost PERFECT on WW this week (not going over points one
time, eating all I should most days-I do have a problem with milk, but
take calcium supplements) I gained 1.2 pounds.

Ran/walked 4.5 miles on the treadmill since it was storming outside....jumped in the pool afterwards since it was so darn HOT! It was still raining but the storm was over...

10a. Intro from a loooong time lurker
Posted by: "bspellac" beth@spellacy.net bspellac
Date: Wed Aug 12, 2009 6:38 pm ((PDT))

Hi everybody! My name is Beth from Staten Island, NY. I've been reading in this group for more than a year now, but just after I joined, I got pregnant with #4. So I've been reading and reading, and I'm finally taking the plunge and becoming a voice among all your wonderful ones!

I'm currently at 218 lbs, all the pregnancy weight that is going to come off has done so, and so my journey begins again.

I've done weight watchers after all my pregnancies, and it's worked well, but this time, it's really hard to find the time to keep track and plan and exercise.

Now I need to begin to be accountable again, and you guys are so terrific, I'm excited to begin again.

Beth

Hi Angela, congrats on facing up to your situation.  It's a hard road to walk down.  But you will be proud of yourself for doing the hard work.  Maybe you need to journal & sit down & think seriously about what roadblocks are in your way.  Are you balking at attending the meeting?  Maybe the time you picked is a bad time for you & your family.  Pick another time.  Was the group leader not inspiring?  Again, pick another time with another group leader.  Is figuring out your food options a problem?  Or grocery shopping?  Or cleaning out your cabinets?  Or the thoughts of giving up some favorite foods?  In short, figure out what your personal hurdle is and figure out how to overcome it.  If attending meetings is your downfall, then think about joining online.  Or find a buddy to give you some inspiration.

Whatever problem you face, we've all been there.  Juggling family issues & putting your own needs second is something many women here face.  So tell the group how we can help you.... and good luck, amy
