I can't help, but I'm in the same place you are in.  Thought it might help to hear you aren't alone.

I can tell you it was the best thing I did. I am newly post op. I had surgery on the Aug 24th. I was never in any major pain. Matter of fact I took pain meds in the hospital stay on top of it but I was never above a 2 on the pain scale.  And 3 weeks out I feel fine. Like nothing ever happened to me.  I have been swimming and walking.  I was about 160 over weight also, and already down 31lbs.

I know every story is different but I truely know for me it was the best thing.

Good luck!!!

I was in exactly your place seven months ago. Today, after RNY at the
end of December 2008, I'm down 110+ pounds, wearing nice clothes,
feeling pretty for the first time in my life, and enjoying more
energy than I have in many years. But more important, I'm healthier,
too, than I have been since perhaps the 1970s.

Blood pressure meds are gone: my once-high BP is now down to a calm,
steady 122 or thereabouts. Cholesterol's down from 240 to 170.
Besides the BP meds being gone, so are one of my two asthma meds, and
costly Nexium for the GERD I don't have any more.

I'm grateful for the support of this group; to my surgeons and their
support staff; and to those who managed to face their fears and dare
to have this procedure, setting an example of courage and success for
me to follow.

Please keep talking about your fears, but talk about your hopes and
dreams, too. Only you can (and should) make the decision for you, but
others are here, and in your community, to support you on your
journey.
