I was worried after my wanting to much all day yesterday. I went over
my daily points (two days this week), but still had 20 weekly left.
I lost 2.4 pounds (after a gain last week, mostly due to fluid).
That's 24 pounds now in nine weeks.

Claudia, I know that it is easy to worry about using all you daily points but just think you still had 20 weekly left...I was having a hard time Imy daily went down to 18 YIKES...I thought I was starving....so of course I overate...My leader shared that she just plans those weeklies into her daily pts...It has been a big help for me. So I guess I'm saying that it is ok to dive into those weekly and not worry so much..don't know if this helps...oh, by the way Congrts on your weight loss....Hugs c

I'm very blessed that even though all my children are now in college, two have decided to go to the hometown university. I'm about 4 years from a real empty nest. I both dread and look forward to it.

Any of you have any 'kids off to college'?
I just got back from dropping off my son...and it seems really strange and quiet. DH is keeping busy with other things. This is our youngest of 4 so we are now an empty nest home. The two dogs don't know the difference, yet.
Got to get over the bummer mode and not turn to food while I'm recouping... .good luck to all the smaller households.

Debi,
I can totally relate. We took our first daughter to college two weeks ago. I
must say leaving her there was one of the hardest things I have done in a
long time. It has gotten easier now that we are back home and everyday life
is taking over again.

I lost 53 lbs in 1975 and actually stayed at goal for 22 yrs. and then my granson was born with lots of problems is really hit me my whole family turned upside down and I ate to find comfort. I rejoined WW several time but never got back to original wt of 185. I rejoined but never really got into the rythm losing wt. I have now lost 30 lbs and have 10 more to go. This group has really helped. I have had my ups downs following WW since Jan but I will loose that weight. The good news is that my granson is doing well and my family is reunited.

No Babette. I don't rock..... I still have 40 pounds to go, but I am getting there. It's just taking care of the one and ONLY body that I have been given. The one and ONLY chance to live life and embrace it, and my family. As we get older, we face our mortality. I have wasted so much of this life over indulging, and have surely taken years off of my life because of it. Now I am trying to hold on to whatever years I can to be with those that I love. I can enjoy life now, and not just a dang candy bar, or a big ole fried meal followed by copious amounts of sugar and fat throughout the day and nite. I may not look purdy nakie, but I feel purdy anyway, lol... and haven't felt that in a long time either. I am almost 60 and I feel as if I am almost 50. I know that my body prolly isn't in that age range, but my mind is. A year ago I was facing an early departure any day from this life at the rate that I was going. Not that this might not happen, but I am not just sitting around making it happen now.
OOOOPS, okay... enough, lol..
Have a Golden Day all!

Another Amen! No more of that pain again. Of being confined to the house
because I was too ashamed to go out. Of struggling to take a nice, hot,
leisurely bath. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh... not to mention having fun with my
grandkids! And having hope to see them all graduate and get married and

possibility. Something as simple as using the restroom was such a struggle.

Once you've lost the weight, you need to learn how to keep it off. Most
people do gain the weight back after they lose it, because they go right
back to their old habits. As you get closer to your goal weight, you will
need to start easing into the lifestyle that you will continue for the rest
of your life. You will need to remember to keep cutting out the biggest
sources of blood sugar spikes, including sugar, white flour, white rice, and
potatoes. You will need to continue consuming plenty of fresh fruits and
vegetables, healthy seafood, and other lean proteins. And you will need to
continue getting some exercise.
Always remember that if you don't continue the lifestyle, you are doomed to
repeat everything you've just been through. You'll have to deal with the
pain of being overweight, the embarrassment you feel when you go out in
public, the difficulty losing the weight, the aches, pains, and discomfort
of being overweight, and all of those other issues.
That's something you don't ever want to have to go through again, right?
Never let go of the things you're feeling right now. Never forget the
struggle. Never forget the pain. Never, ever forget.
Once you let go, once you get past it and you move on, you cannot forget. If
you allow yourself to forget what it was like, you'll be back on that road
to obesity before you know it.
It's a good idea to keep a lot of photos of yourself before you lost the
weight. Keep a journal of how difficult your dieting is. Write notes in it
about how horrible you feel, how embarrassed you are, how your life is
miserable. Keep all of this together and look at it regularly.
Yes, it will be painful to dredge up those memories of when you were so
unhealthy, but it will help you stay healthy. The emotional pain you feel
will be nothing compared to what your friends and family would feel if they
lost you because you had a heart attack or stroke due to obesity, or the
pain you would feel if you gained all of the weight back.
Keep eating healthily. Keep exercising. Keep living the healthiest life
possible.
Never, ever forget

I'm sorry Deb, but I have to disagree.
You do rock. Your weight does not detract from your rockness...it
impacts your health, yes, but it doesn't make you less valuable or
wonderful, or rockalicious!
The past is in the past (or as Pumba says, "Put your past in your
behind.") Learn from it and move forward, but remember that everything
that you are today is a byproduct of who you were all the yesterdays.
Could you have done things differently? Sure! We all could have. I've
asked myself time and again why I didn't get on the stick
earlier...but ultimately I do not regret who I was then or the
experiences I had. I value and love who I was, and value and love who
I am because weight does not define my character!
It doesn't define yours either!

I am within my WW range but I want to tweak my eating a little. So tomorrow
I will count points but I am going to eat a little cleaner. Limiting my
carbs to only whole grain and high fiber. Only one freebie a day like a
fiber one bar or something. Lots of fruits, lean meats and dairy and lots of
veggies. I have found in the past that even if I stick within in my points I
find that I don't feel as good as when I eat very well. Anyone else on that
one?
Here is to a new month! Sept 1, what a good starting date.

I look at September like a beging of a new year. Children go back to school, most vacations are over and if you are an adult you may be thinking of taking all kinds of classes that are offered.
For Sept.I will take 3-4 water type classes and do the weight machines 3 x's week. To do this I must set the alarm for 6am. My eating plan is to use 24 pts per day...

Excellent Jen! Definitely doable, and the best part is that you're
making REASONABLE goals that are reachable. You're not trying to
completely redefine your entire life, but are taking small steps
towards big changes.

Not only possible, Nancy, but probable. It seems that most people who
are obese suffer, at some point, from these issues and they almost
always all go away.
The only thing that hasn't gone away is lower back pain, but turns out
I have arthritis. So for many people, even that goes away.

Once
you´ve lost the weight, you need to learn how to keep it off. Most
people do gain the weight back after they lose it, because they go
right back to their old habits. As
you get closer to your goal weight, you will need to start easing into
the lifestyle that you will continue for the rest of your life. You
will need to remember to keep cutting out the biggest sources of blood
sugar spikes, including sugar, white flour, white rice, and potatoes.
You will need to continue consuming plenty of fresh fruits and
vegetables, healthy seafood, and other lean proteins. And you will need
to continue getting some exercise.
Always
remember that if you don´t continue the lifestyle, you are doomed to
repeat everything you´ve just been through. You´ll have to deal with
the pain of being overweight, the embarrassment you feel when you go
out in public, the difficulty losing the weight, the aches, pains, and
discomfort of being overweight, and all of those other issues.

I'll tell you the trick to keeping the weight off...I hit goal in
December of 2002.
The trick is, "Never Stop."
Never stop counting points or calories.
Never stop evaluating your body and its needs. (What you can eat today
and maintain and what you can eat tomorrow may be two different things
as your body changes.)
Never stop setting goals and striving for them.
Never stop loving yourself enough to put your health as a top priority
in your life.
Never stop participating in weight loss support groups. I honestly
believe that for many of us, this is a health issue that we will deal
with our entire lives. We can either choose to control IT, or let it
control us.
Never stop being proud of the day to day decisions you make that keep
your on the road to good health.

When I first joined WW. It was with a very social group we actually would go to lunch together after the meeting and would have a program lunch as our first meal after the weigh in. Many of that class made it to goal some of them didn't...I can remember an at goal lady saying to me one day WHY do these people come....they are just playing....It is really not for us to answer that question. I truly believed that each member was doing their best. . It's my hope that after reading others successes people can make the choice to do it. I also think that some people loose a certain amount of lbs. and then take time off to get use to that weight before restarting their weight loss journey.Everyone travels their own weight loss journey.

Hi everyone. I started an awesome exercise program called First Strides. I have attended for 4 weeks so far. It is a program where you are put into groups according to your ability. We interval train, and I am in a group where I walk quickly for my "easy" and jog for my "hard". About 2 weeks ago, when I was doing my 'homework' and doing the interval loop at home, I managed to hurt my hamstring..atleast I think it is my hamstring..the muscle on the back of my upper leg and into my butt. I have been nursing it now and I am unsure what to do and wanted to reach out for some suggestions. Last Wed after class I was SO sore. I really rested as much as I could this past week. I am able to use the ellipitcal without pain, but walking/running for an extended period of time causes throbbing pain. I have class again tomorrow (it is a 12 week class, and we are allowed to miss 3 classes). My hubby tells me not to go. He says that I need to rest it or I wont ever get better and never be able to do the 5K in Ocotober. I am afraid if I dont go that I will get too stiff and get behind the others in my class...I hate this..I want to do this but dont want to injure myself more. I think I will be able to do the class, but just worry that I will be so sore again and then I will have to take off several days and hence have less exercise. I dont know if this email even makes sense to anyone, but I guess all I wanted to know is if anyone ever hurt their hamstring and if they found resting is best of if that didnt help. BTW-I have been doing lots of stretching and lots of icing of my butt!!!! Thanks. Heidi

Heidi,
That sounds like a neat exercise program.
I agree with your hubby. You don't want to injure yourself worse.

What are you doing to treat it besides rest? I'd suggest ice and
ibuprofin to reduce the swelling. Since you're doing intervals, you
may want to consider doing walk/walk faster for awhile as opposed to
walk/run. Hamstrings are pretty tough and you've probably strained it
or possibly even torn it a little. That's an indication that yours
(like most people's) are tight, so you're going to have to make sure
you warm up appropriately before any running, and that after your warm
up (AFTER, not before) you stop and do some gentle stretching. Then
when you're done, you stretch. As long as you feel any pain, even
tightness, ice is your friend after EVERY run. No arguments, Missy!
Ice ice baby!
Should you go to the class? Well if you were my client I would suggest
that you try a light training tomorrow with the promise that you:
1. Focus on your form and warm up for at LEAST 5 minutes.
2. Stop and stretch, but very gently because the muscle is already
damaged, before you run.
3. Rather than run, walk fast and determine at what pace you start to
feel pain or tightness.
4. That at the onset of pain and tightness, you stop and stretch and
see if it relieves it.
I am currently living with a torn gastroc. I did see a PT for it and
that was pretty much his advice. He even okayed my 20 mile run on
Sunday, with the promise that I was gentle. Yesterday I only walked 1
mile, today I ran almost 8. It was tight on the first one, looser on
the second (ran two different times as transportation). Tomorrow if I
feel any tightness I'll do intervals where I run for 2 minutes or to
the onset of tightness, and run for 1.
If you try walking and it still hurts, it wouldn't be a bad idea to
see a doctor just in case.
