Has everyone gone to their yahoo groups and
checked off yes or no to yahoo using all yahoo
groups info in public forums, if not this is why
you are all seeing this. If you all want to know
how to do this let me know, I will post it here
on the list. Everyone has to do it themselves
individually. It is something new that yahoo updates
started a few months back.

Hey Ladies!

I had my weigh in last night. DOWN 1.6 pounds. :)

Two weeks on the plan and I'm down an overall of 8.2 lbs.

I took my measurements, and I'm a half inch down on my bust, but 1-1/2" on my waist! WOOT!

Simply Filling is the new name for the old Core Program with a few
tweaks. If you count points but eat FILLING FOODS, you are still
counting points, the other way of doing Momentum. Under Simply
Filling, you ONLY count points for foods not on the Filling Foods list
or if you don't follow the 'once a day' rules. I switch back and forth
between both methods, although I lose better on SF, it's more expensive
and I just can't afford it all the time.

Why is simply filling more expensive?

Tory,

I think many people just don't like exercise (I'm one of them) ... and will
use this an excuse that they don't have to do it. I look at exercise as
"medicine"; it' s no different to me than the prescriptions that I take on a
daily basis. Each is necessary for my continued good health.

Subject: Re: [Serious-Weight-Watchers] Article: Is Exercise for Weight Loss
Really Pointless?

Oh trust me, I hear it ALL the time! People love to tell ME (ME! I
have lost over 100 lbs) that what I'm doing doesn't really benefit me.

Okay, well when you have scientific proof to the contrary, maybe I'll
consider stopping my exercise and journaling my food. But seeing as my
doctor says I am healthier than most 20 year olds he sees, and I can
run circles around literally 90% of my high school students, I have NO
health issues (barring one related to a pancreatic tumor, completely
unrelated to weight loss issues) while many of my age-mates are on an
average taking at least ONE medication for lifestyle related health
problems I take nothing but calcium.

The problem with this study is that this idea that if a human
exercises he/she will have absolutely a RAVISHING appetite and lose
all control, like some sort of crazed bear after a spring thaw, really
discredits us as human beings! Really? As a whole, we have NO self
control over our appetites? So that explains while I attacked that man
with Taco Bell and bit off his pinky in my frenzy. We're not freaking
SHARKS for god's sake!

Human nature does not equal science. Human nature can show TRENDS, but
it is not a fact that we are all pre-determined to give into our baser
desires. That's why many of us manage to go through life without
stealing, sleeping with the rugby team (every season), killing our
neighbors, etc. We all have self control and exercise it on a regular
basis.

I really felt so good about myself yesterday. My best friend Cindy was
over, having just got back from vacation. We kept her dog for her. She
lives about 40 miles away, so she's not too far away, but far enough
away I don't get to see her as often as I'd like. Food has always
played a big role in our visiting, and last night was no exception.

After moderate points for breakfast and lunch, we talked about going
out to the new steak house here in town, but I decided I'd rather have
my husband grill some steaks at home, as I had fresh green beans and
corn on the cob from the farmers' market I needed to use. So I went
and got some steaks and baking potatoes. Used to be I would eat an
entire rib eye myself (these are thick, good sized rib eyes). My
husband likes T-bones, so I got one for him and a package of two rib
eyes for my daughter, Cindy and I.

Instead of the entire rib eye, I only ate about a third. My scales
showed that was still nine points! I used to consume almost a day's
points in one piece of meat!! Suddenly my excuse that I didn't over
eat (I have never been a constant snacker, or dessert eater) didn't
sound so true any longer. I had the backed potato and corn with the
Land of Lakes Light butter, green beans (extra point there for the
bacon I cooked it in, even though I didn't eat the bacon). We ended
the meal with a WW ice cream for a total of 20 points (I get 35 right
now). It was so satisfying, and yet I still felt in control.

I was telling a friend this morning that I couldn't believe the change
in how I feel with just 24 pounds gone. I can't imagine how good I
will feel when I get down to a normal weight.

Subject: [Serious-Weight-Watchers] Yesterday

Claudia

Hey Tory ... that's probably the BEST message anyone can get - NEVER STOP,
NEVER GIVE UP. This applies to all areas of life ... not just weight loss.

I'll tell you the trick to keeping the weight off...I hit goal in
December of 2002.

The trick is, "Never Stop."

Never stop counting points or calories.
Never stop evaluating your body and its needs. (What you can eat today
and maintain and what you can eat tomorrow may be two different things
as your body changes.)
Never stop setting goals and striving for them.
Never stop loving yourself enough to put your health as a top priority
in your life.
Never stop participating in weight loss support groups. I honestly
believe that for many of us, this is a health issue that we will deal
with our entire lives. We can either choose to control IT, or let it
control us.
Never stop being proud of the day to day decisions you make that keep
your on the road to good health.

8a. Systemic Candida Infections

Hi all,

I wanted to share a discovery with you all because weight loss is so hard for me despite WW and some exercise. I found out I probably have a systemic candida infection. When I see these symptoms I have most of them including swelling and problems like reflux and craving sugar and breads. There is something you can look into if you think you may have a candida problem too: check out non-candida supporting foods into your WW plan. It seems that candida infections in the body are really common, especially for folks with swollen fatty tummies and swelling and pain in joints, etc. I always enjoy when people share things with me that help them so hopefully this will help someone here too. After all, one of the things I really like about WW is the focus on healthy eating and getting fit rather than just vain weight loss. Here is a link that has some info: http://www.diagnose-me.com/cond/C7890.html

Peace,
Amanda

I shared about my experiences with this not too long ago. My doctor did a
blood test to determine the levels of candida I had, and the high level on
the chart was greater than 30. My level was 82.7! VERY high. I have been
taking a fluconazole tablet every other day since the end of July - by the
time I'm finished with it, it will be late September. She had me do a
Vitamin C flush as well to help flush out a bunch of the yeast. As they die
off they can give off molds and such that make you feel flu-like. So I did
that and take the medication.

It has made a HUGE difference. My cravings were uncontrollable before - as
was external itching (down there LOL). My moods were all over the place, I
had no motivation - it has been amazing how much more energy I have now -
and I get more energetic each week.

It will be important for me to watch the junk carbs as the yeast (candida)
dies off. My family doctor just did a swab on the external itching area,
and nothing showed up. The GYN did a swab test where it was sent out for a
couple of weeks, and that test was positive. But she only gave me medicine
for short term. It didn't last.

You actually need a blood test - not a urine test - to get your candida
levels. But I whole heartedly agree that my HIGH levels of yeast in my
system were causing me not to be able to follow any kind of program - the
cravings were too strong. It's great to feel energetic and actually feel
good enough to want to do anything besides sleep all day.

Hi SueW,

We not only SHOULD inform ourselves, we will be a lot healthier if we do.
gone are the days when we could blindly trust - pretty much anyone.

OMG ... I totally agree with this! I get so mad when I hear friends tell me
that their doctor said so and so and when I ask if they posed him any
questions, or did an research on their own, they look at me like I'm some
sort of alien! I've saved myself considerable issues with my health by
being informed, researching, and NOT taking the word of one doctor as law.

Babette

Not only that but I'm living proof. I've been working out daily (cardio
daily and weight training a couple of times a week and yoga, 3-4 times a
week) for the last 15 years without stop, and yet just in eating a few too
many calories, I managed to gain 60 lbs in 2005 - 2006! (I don't eat fast
food, junk food, at all - I don't eat high fat food and do not drink at all
either nor consume chemicals like nutrasweet or MSG and have not eaten fast
or junk food since 1995).

I am glad that in the new material, although Weight Watchers mentions that
frequent exercise is on the schedule of most people successful in keeping
off their weight, they have greatly DE-EMPHASIZED this idea that the only
reason to exercise is to lose weight - they list some 40 benefits (HEALTH)
of exercise.

Weight Watchers Momentum program is not a diet - it's a HOLISTIC healthy
lifestyle and there is NO SUCH THING as a healthy lifestyle that does not
include exercise.

Now if you are like the folks on the Biggest Loser and exercise 5-6 hours a
day, yes, it WILL definitely affect weight loss but the latest scientific
information states that UNLESS a person exercises more than 2 hours a day
(cardio) it may not affect your weight that much.

One issue with exercising JUST for weight loss is one tends to NOT cross
train and that gets to be a real problem as one ages because unused muscles
do go away. And the type of cardio which is a "good calorie dump" may not
be the healthiest type of exercise, also. Running is hard on the joints
even if the person only weighs 100 lbs. A 100 person puts 400 lbs of stress
on the hips and knees with EVERY running step.

Which is why any orthopedic surgeon will tell you that the most usual
customer for a new knee or hip joint is the runner in his/her 40's!

There is a lot that medicine doesn't tell us but you can access it on the
internet - medline etc. Also every Saturday, Discovery Health runs 2 CME
courses and those are geared to medical providers and quite candid about a
bunch of stuff that never hits the media.

We also have a son who is a medical provider and he's quite a good source of
information.

We not only SHOULD inform ourselves, we will be a lot healthier if we do.
gone are the days when we could blindly trust - pretty much anyone.

Don't get me wrong. I feel exercise is as close to the fountain of youth as
you are going to find. And if you do it for health rather than weight loss,
you will be consistant with it and you will also re-conform your w/o program
for various aging issues etc. I've been working out STEADILY for 15 years
now. fat or slimmer I knew my workout program was something I could not
afford to fudge on.

But I've seen so many folks drop off the exercise horizon when a half hour
or 40 minute w/o a few times a week didn't produce the weight loss they'd
expected.

In fact, I've discovered this time around that since I'm OP for HEALTH (to
keep my GERD away and hubby is OP for health also - WW keeps his sugar
levels at normal range - he's diabetic) and not uptight about weight loss or
what I weigh, I have NO REASON to not be OP (unless I want to wake up at
night with a throatful of stomach acid. so not fun!). If I cheat, my GERD
is right there so I don't cheat.

That's what I love about the Momentum program and if you are not going to
meetings, I would really recommend you consider attending meetings and
getting the new material. Our leader runs a WW office branch and has been
at goal or below for 10 years and even SHE agreed that the new material they
give you (the several books you get the first few weeks you attend
meetings?) is the best SHE'S seen.

But be there for health. The weight loss comes - the program works but if
you are OP for health, you enjoy the health benefits pretty soon in the game
and are comfortable where-ever your weight is.

I am a medical researcher.

Best,

SueW

Welcome, LM.

Do you want to cook breakfast, or something just to break the fast?

My breakfast is usually a Quaker Fiber & Omega-3 Chewy Oat Granola Bar
(3 points and more fiber than the supplements I used to have to take).
Then I add a banana and a Weight Watchers yogurt. It's plenty for me,
and more than I used to eat for breakfast.

If I am cooking, I love to make my own Egg McMuffin, using a English
Muffin that I spray some butter spray (0 points) on it and toast it on
the griddle while I am browning the Canadian bacon. I have some of the
rings you cook eggs in, so I break an egg into that, bust the yolk and
let it cook relatively slowly, taking the ring off and turning it over
when it is set. When everything on the griddle is done, I put a slice
of reduced fat cheese on the muffin, add the egg and Canadian bacon,
and you have a yummy breakfast sandwich, I think 5 points, but check
me on it. It might be 7 (I'm going from memory here, not looking it
up).

I also like grits and a scrambled egg. I cook the quick grits, but you
could use instant, too.

11a. Bummed Out but dealing ....

Hey Ladies,

Yesterday I did something very stupid ... I ran into a metal chair and
severely bruised/twisted my last two toes on my left foot. The whole area
on top of the foot is also black and blue. Now, this isn't what I'm bummed
out about - I know this will heal. However, because of this stupid injury I
can't go to Curves, Walk, or even go swimming (no way I can make the walk
from the locker room to the pool)! I was supposed to attend my first Zumba
class last night and of course, that went out the window. Mike, (DH) thinks
it's going to take at least a week to heal to the point I can put real
pressure on it. I'm walking with a cane right now!!

So, I was really bummed and pissed off about it all last night. Then I
thought of something! I've got a bunch of exercise DVD's at home. So I
thought, I could sit in a chair and at least do all the upper body movements
and even lift my legs! Then I thought, I can use soup cans for hand
weights! Yay!! I'm going to be able to exercise after all! I was really
freaking out that I wouldn't be able to do any sort of exercise for a week!!

Hugs,

Babette

So sorry for your injury. I know it must hurt. Bravo to you, though,
for finding a way to exercise. I wish I was that motivated-trying very
hard to get that motivated. The spirit is willing but the flesh is
weak!

I fell this morning going to class. We have a brand new Business Dept
building, and they have been working on the landscape around it since
the semester started, and we've had to walk around bags of soil,
hoses, clumps of dirt, shovels, etc. The companies doing the work have
not been good about leaving the sidewalks clear.

Well, today I get there, and yeah, it looks like everything is done.
Sod had been put down, finally, and all the workmen and there stuff is
gone. I do note what looks like dirt on the sidewalk, but it looked
like a thin, dry layer.

Well, it was dry on the top, but down lower, there was about 1" thick
of mud, and even in my Crocs and using a cane (still babying the
plantar faciitis when I have to walk any distance), down I went. One
of the college maintenance men was going by when it happened and he
stopped and helped me up, and then a professor who saw it directed me
to who I needed to report it. Even though no major injuries, I am
stiff and bruised. I've already had a call from the President's (of
the college) office to check on me.

Worst of all (to me) was I was covered in mud. I went to my class,
turned in my homework and left to come home and get cleaned up. I
really needed to stay for that class, as it was Business Statistics,
but no way I could sit there covered in mud.
