LOL, I stand corrected Tory. Thank you. My how you stretched that word "rock"...hehehe... Putting my past in my behind..does that mean junk in my trunk?? HA!

I'm sorry Deb, but I have to disagree.
You do rock. Your weight does not detract from your rockness...it
impacts your health, yes, but it doesn't make you less valuable or
wonderful, or rockalicious!
The past is in the past (or as Pumba says, "Put your past in your
behind.") Learn from it and move forward, but remember that everything
that you are today is a byproduct of who you were all the yesterdays.
Could you have done things differently? Sure! We all could have. I've
asked myself time and again why I didn't get on the stick
earlier...but ultimately I do not regret who I was then or the
experiences I had. I value and love who I was, and value and love who
I am because weight does not define my character!
It doesn't define yours either!

Well, I think you're wonderful. To maintain a loss for that long and then
get back to business after an emotional time is just proof of your
dedication. I'm so glad that your grandson is now doing well!!

I lost 53 lbs in 1975 and actually stayed at goal for 22 yrs. and then my
granson was born with lots of problems is really hit me my whole family
turned upside down and I ate to find comfort. I rejoined WW several time
but never got back to original wt of 185. I rejoined but never really got
into the rythm losing wt. I have now lost 30 lbs and have 10 more to go.
This group has really helped. I have had my ups downs following WW since
Jan but I will loose that weight. The good news is that my granson is doing
well and my family is reunited.

No Babette. I don't rock..... I still have 40 pounds to go, but I am getting
there. It's just taking care of the one and ONLY body that I have been
given. The one and ONLY chance to live life and embrace it, and my family.
As we get older, we face our mortality. I have wasted so much of this life
over indulging, and have surely taken years off of my life because of it.
Now I am trying to hold on to whatever years I can to be with those that I
love. I can enjoy life now, and not just a dang candy bar, or a big ole
fried meal followed by copious amounts of sugar and fat throughout the day

haven't felt that in a long time either. I am almost 60 and I feel as if I
am almost 50. I know that my body prolly isn't in that age range, but my
mind is. A year ago I was facing an early departure any day from this life
at the rate that I was going. Not that this might not happen, but I am not
just sitting around making it happen now.

Does anyone needlepoint? Can't you just see this on one? Very good Tory! I'm going to make it pretty and put it on my fridge. Or somewhere that I an those that come into my home can see it. My DH and I both will be reminded each time that way.
And it's funny how just when I think of quitting my meetings........every time someone or something happens to keep me going back. You have done it for me again this week. I have missed meetings this summer due to vacations and then Mom's passing, so I have gotten out of the routine of going each and every week. I still continue to lose and work the program so was considering doing online only. But in the back of my mind I keep telling myself that I still need these meetings. I need the help, and I need to help others. It's who I am. LOL... whether they want my help or not. So thanks again. This is a terrific post and well worth keeping. Maybe even putting it as a mantra on the group's page?

I'll tell you the trick to keeping the weight off...I hit goal in
December of 2002.
The trick is, "Never Stop."
Never stop counting points or calories.
Never stop evaluating your body and its needs. (What you can eat today
and maintain and what you can eat tomorrow may be two different things
as your body changes.)
Never stop setting goals and striving for them.
Never stop loving yourself enough to put your health as a top priority
in your life.
Never stop participating in weight loss support groups. I honestly
believe that for many of us, this is a health issue that we will deal
with our entire lives. We can either choose to control IT, or let it
control us.
Never stop being proud of the day to day decisions you make that keep
your on the road to good health.

That's why I think it's important to get rid of those "fat clothes". I either give away to friends, or give to charity. There's no going back that way!

Once
youâ™ve lost the weight, you need to learn how to keep it off. Most
people do gain the weight back after they lose it, because they go
right back to their old habits. As
you get closer to your goal weight, you will need to start easing into
the lifestyle that you will continue for the rest of your life. You
will need to remember to keep cutting out the biggest sources of blood
sugar spikes, including sugar, white flour, white rice, and potatoes.
You will need to continue consuming plenty of fresh fruits and
vegetables, healthy seafood, and other lean proteins. And you will need
to continue getting some exercise.
Always
remember that if you donâ™t continue the lifestyle, you are doomed to
repeat everything youâ™ve just been through. Youâ™ll have to deal with
the pain of being overweight, the embarrassment you feel when you go
out in public, the difficulty losing the weight, the aches, pains, and
discomfort of being overweight, and all of those other issues.

Is Simply Filling an older program or something that they introduce once you've been at it a few weeks?

I look at September like a beging of a new year. Children go back to
school, most vacations are over and if you are an adult you may be thinking
of taking all kinds of classes that are offered.
For Sept.I will take 3-4 water type classes and do the weight machines 3 x's
week. To do this I must set the alarm for 6am. My eating plan is to use 24
pts per day...

I am within my WW range but I want to tweak my eating a little. So tomorrow
I will count points but I am going to eat a little cleaner. Limiting my
carbs to only whole grain and high fiber. Only one freebie a day like a
fiber one bar or something. Lots of fruits, lean meats and dairy and lots of
veggies. I have found in the past that even if I stick within in my points I
find that I don't feel as good as when I eat very well. Anyone else on that
one?
Here is to a new month! Sept 1, what a good starting date.

Hi Nancy,
I think a lot of people can't drink milk, or have any dairy products. I've
heard that these people just take the calcium supplements and don't worry so
much about the WW's milk servings. I mean, you can't eat what makes you
sick, right?
Hugs,
Babette

Carolee,
I'm on board with the tweaking. Today I ended up with 4 points at the end of
the day. I don't really like eating a lot of stuff late at night, but I
can't make a habit of not eating all my daily points, so I need to tweak my
day so those points are eaten midday or at breakfast and I'm not hungry
during the day.
I'm having trouble with the milk servings. Glasses of milk upset my stomach,
I can't eat enough cottage cheese to make it a milk serving (2 cups, or 4
servings!), hard cheeses are even worse than milk (because the milk is
Lactaid and the cheeses are not). While I figure it out I'm taking a calcium
supplement.
I'll let you know about the feeling good part when I've been OP for a few
weeks. I totally expect to have more energy. I'd better!
Here's to all of us having a good month in September!

10. Article: Keeping Food Diary Helps Lose Weight
Posted by: "LBCreations" lbcreations-designsbybabette@cox.net queen_babette99
Date: Wed Sep 2, 2009 7:23 am ((PDT))
Hey All,
Here's an article that basically says what we already know ... but I thought
it was interesting that they actually conducted a study!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------
Keeping Food Diary Helps Lose Weight
July 8, 2008 -- Keeping a food diary may be a key to losing extra weight, a
new study shows.
The study, published in the August edition of the American Journal of
Preventive Medicine, included 1,685 overweight or obese U.S. adults aged 25
and older.
For six months, they kept food diaries and were encouraged to eat a healthy
diet and be physically active. They also met weekly in groups to share their
food diaries and brush up on skills like how to judge portion size.
After six months, participants had shed almost 13 pounds, on average. The
most powerful predictor of their weight loss was how many days per week they
kept their food diary, says Victor Stevens, PhD, senior investigator at the
Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research in Portland, Ore.
Those who kept food records six days a week -- jotting down everything they
ate and drank on those days -- lost about twice as much weight as those who
kept food records one day a week or less, Stevens tells WebMD.
Why Food Diaries Work
"I think the most powerful part is accountability and the next most powerful
part is increasing awareness of where those extra calories are coming from,"
says Stevens.
Showing your food diary to someone else is even better, in terms of
accountability; that's what participants in Stevens' study did. "You're
accountable to yourself when you're writing it down and you're accountable
to other people who are looking at your food record," says Stevens.
Food diaries can also help target areas for improvement. For instance,
Stevens says a food diary might make someone realize that he or she is
eating 1,000 calories at lunch and set a goal to trim lunches.
5 Tips for Keeping a Food Diary
Stevens offers this advice for keeping a food diary:
* Write as you go. Don't wait until the end of the day to record what
you ate and drank. "We recommend they write it down as soon as they can
after they eat," says Stevens.
* Focus on portion size. Practice at home with measuring cups, measuring
spoons, or food scales. And be aware that people tend to underestimate how
much food they're served.
* Use whatever type of food diary works for you. It doesn't matter
whether you use scrap paper, a personal digital assistant (PDA), or a
notebook. What matters is that you use it, says Stevens.
* Don't skip your indulgent days. "We encourage people to keep records
especially on days when they're tempted to eat," says Stevens. "What gets
measured tends to get changed."
* Cook at home. You'll have more control over what you consume, and you
know what that food contains, and how much of it you're eating. That makes
for a more detailed entry in your food diary.
Also, remember that even modest weight loss -- even if it doesn't bring you
down to your ideal weight -- may have health benefits, says Stevens.
