I just wanted to say I had to have a long psychological test done back in 1998 pre-op. I was not on Medicare, so no experience with that. But I know that pre-surgery testing has been going on for a long time.

The weight loss clinic/hospital that I used did all the work as far as getting approval. I had to pay $75.00 which was the co-pay here in Ms. Hope this info is helpful. I am 9 months since I had gastric bypass and have lost 165 pounds.

Has anyone else done this? Was it paid for by Medicare? That is what I have. I have asked 2 places in town and one (CKMH) says it costs $900 and is covered if you do it in increments (not all at once) and the other (Veridian) says is costs $362 and it is not covered. Has this been anyone else's experience? I am from Salina if that helps. I would be interested in other people's experiences. I know some Drs do not require it but the one I am considering (in Topeka) says they require it now as they have a long Medicare waiting list and that they have had some trouoble getting paid from Medicare.

It takes your body a bit of time, but perseverence with diet and exercise on your feet will pay off in the long run. Think in terms of months and years. If you continue to eat at a caloric rate that will induce weight loss, and to exercise frequently, you can't help but lose weight. It will happen, keep going, be patient. Best of luck.

It's hard for me to exercise because I have to have both knees replaced, but i have started to walk. please help me to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Joanne Martino.

Hi Foxdancer:
I see no one else has answered you yet, but I will although I never had a vision issue as you describe.
I have read that a symptom of hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) is blurred vision.
Welcome to the group, and I hope someone with experience on this can answer your question.

This has happened 2-3 times before, but at shorter periods of time 24-48 hours. I am doing most all what I need. water, protein, etc. I just can't figure out if IS a sugar thing or not. I think I am not metabolizing what starches? carbohydrates? I am take in. I am looking for any input. If not better by Monday the 17th, I will be calling our WL groups RN to see about a blood sugar test. Thanks!

My sister had the procedure about 9 months ago. She has had no complications, and is doing great!
I had the RNY and would suggest that surgery. I have lost 184 lbs since June 19, 2009.
Good Luck!!

How much weight did your sister lose?
Was she in as much pain as you were with your surgery?

My sister has lost about 105 lbs so far. She hasn't had any pain and neither have I. I chose the RNY because it forces you not to eat sweets. Dumping is not fun, and it will require you to stay to your diet plan. My sister has about 20 more pounds to her goal weight and she looks and feels great!!
