What I did was get the surgery approved by Medicare and then the doctors recommended the 4 choices of Psycologists. The weight loss clinic/hospital that I used did all the work as far as getting approval. I had to pay $75.00 which was the co-pay here in Ms. Hope this info is helpful. I am 9 months since I had gastric bypass and have lost 165 pounds.

I am trying to do all I can to get the prerequisites done before I can get bypass surgery (BPS w/DS). One of the things the Dr wants is a psychological test done (to include the MMPI). Has anyone else done this? Was it paid for by Medicare? That is what I have. I have asked 2 places in town and one (CKMH) says it costs $900 and is covered if you do it in increments (not all at once) and the other (Veridian) says is costs $362 and it is not covered. Has this been anyone else's experience? I am from Salina if that helps. I would be interested in other people's experiences. I know some Drs do not require it but the one I am considering (in Topeka) says they require it now as they have a long Medicare waiting list and that they have had some trouoble getting paid from Medicare.
