Have you had or are you consideringRoux-en-Y Bariatric Surgery for Obesity?
YOUR HELP IS NEEDED!
We are conducting a research study on the behavioral, emotional, and social support needs of the bariatric patient/candidate. The purpose of the study is to identify, from the patient's perspective, how psychologists and other mental health professionals could support the patient in successful weight loss, weight maintenance, and improved quality of life. Our hope is that your participation will result in the identification of effective ways to support future bariatric patients.

If you are an adult (age 18+) male or female who has had or is considering Roux-en-Y bariatric surgery (and has attended a general information session about the surgery), you are invited to participate in a group interview.

The interview is expected to last approximately 2 to 3 hours and will be held in a private and comfortable location in either Oregon or Washington, depending on the location of the majority of respondents. Compensation for your participation includes $10 AND a 1 in 6 chance to win a $50 Visa gift card if you are a participant or a 1 in 9 chance to win a $25 gift card if you agree to be on a "backup" list but do not subsequently participate.

If you are interested in more information about this study, please call or email the primary investigator, Lisa Cavanagh, M.A. at (612) 578-4148 or lisac19692003@yahoo.com

This study is being conducted in conjunction with the
American School of Professional Psychology at
Argosy University, Twin Cities
1515 Central Parkway
Eagan, MN 55121

I had the RNY Laproscopice Gastric Bypass on December 28th 2010. Seeing that I am 65 years old and had many health issues, I was pleasantly shocked that after a few days after surgery my diabetic numbers were within normal range, and my blood pressure is also in normal range.
Since I am new, I'll read the posts that are already posted. I know I'll have many questions.

I'm under some pressure now, since my husband is the appointed cook in the family. We are also raising our two granddaughters (18 and 15). They eat "regular" meals and I try to work around it.
Nice to meet all of you.
Paula

My open RNY is 12 years out (Jan 12, 1999), and still successful. I fluctuate a bit between 150 and 160, and my pants range from size 6 to 8. I have some junior size 5/6 items, like dresses, blazers & jackets that fit.

If I actually exercised (jog about 45 mins a day, a little weight work) (I did so for about 8 years, then I stopped, started again, stopped, have been in a 'stop' phase for about a year), I would weigh 140-145 easily.

I only 'diet' by cutting out carbs if I hit 160 and want to go down about 5-8 lbs. I can't eat sugar or heavy fats without stomach upset/dumping, so I don't. I drink maybe a glass of red wine a day after dinner or the occasional single serving of gin+tonic or single malt scotch (I'm a really cheap date!). No beer, no diet or regular soda, very little bread or white flour products.

GBS was the best decision of my life.

Vic,
I an just starting my second year.  i have lost 114 pounds and still have 50 pounds to lose.
I gained some during Christmas and have a hard time losing.  I am trying to delete sugar from my diet as well as bread.  I can't tolerate diary  or soy.  I am looking for a support group to go to.  I live in Tucson, AZ.  If you have any ideas that will help me I would be much appreciated. I too am glad I had the gastric sleeve  operation.
Natalie
