I am a new member and having Lap Band surgery tomorrow. I am so sick at my stomach and having a constant headache because of this 3 day liquid diet I have to follow before surgery. I need input if this is worth it. Tami

I had the gastric bypass 5 years ago, I was almost 300 pounds. I was in size 26 that was too tight and now I am in size 2. I would go back and do it again. Good luck with everything.

Bariatriceating.com has a very good unflavored (no sweeteners) protein
powder called PURE. I blend my protein powders, but in terms of flavors, it
mixes well with sweet or savory and does not add its own taste.

So here I am almost 3 years out. In the stage of gain a little lose a little. So my starting weight was before bypass was 271 now I am 200 my lowest that I got was down to 186. I know what I have done to get me back to where I am and I know what I have to do to get back on track, but I am having the hardest time doing just that. My weight all started coming back on when my husband took a second job and I dealing with our 3year old son all by myself, he was over worked and me also I was working, going to school full time and of course being a mother full time also. Put a lot of stress on me and on our family sleepless nights full of homework,a child that wouldn't sleep till daddy got home and bills hanging over my head lead me to eat all the wrong foods and drink the fatty full of calories blended coffee mocha's and sweet teas. Someone please help me!! Be my buddy, motivate me!!! Thanks Katie

I had my RNY 9 years ago this coming Tuesday. I lost about 100lbs and over the years gained about 40 back and went back on metformin to keep from gaining any more as I have insulin resistance.

I stopped gaining but didn't really lose anything. Someone turned me on to some natural products I could replace some of the things I was eating with and I have started losing again and stopped the metformin and my sleep apnea medications.

I was one of those people that had absolutely no complications. And in the last 9 years I have not had one complication. But as I said above I followed the
rules.

I hope that gives you some encouragement....Remember when you have the surgery it is just a tool!

If you want to know what products I have been using you can check out
www.wanttoburnfat.com.

I'm hoping to lose the last 40 or so pounds I'd like to lose....

Thanks for your every1s input. I started eating a lot of protein And working out in the morning. I weighed myself after 4 days and I dropped 4 pounds and 2 inches. I mean I don't eat much carbs at all. When I started doing that last week, I felt like I had just had surgery. I woke up with that fluid in my mouth ( from fat being burned) cotton mouth and things of that sort. So yea I'm going to stick to this and I'll keep you updated (whomever is interested on some more results)

Thanks guys!

Just wondering if anyone has found a good sweetener free, yes I want unsweetened protein powder. I can't handle artificial sweeteners or stevia. I have a strong reaction to the after taste and I don't like things really sweet. I'd like something I can add my own sweetener to and maybe some plain vanilla extract or an extract or maybe some plain fruit for flavoring.

I had surgery in 2000. I had a band procedure that is not like the current lap band. My band was not adjustable. I started at 301 and at my smallest I was 145 (I am 5'7"). I had a child in 2007 and maintained my weight at 190.
I had many health issues relating to reflux and many hospital stays. Finally, my doctors recommended a revision of my surgery. I now have an RYN. I had the procedure 8 wks ago. I have lost 15lbs. It is a very slow process this time, but I feel better. I have different issues to deal with, but I will make it work.
My goal now is to get to 150 and see from there if I want to get smaller. My ideal weight is 137.
If you have any other questions, I would be glad to answer them.

Hi AiLee

Wow, that is awesome getting down to 145lbs. Im sorry you experienced many complications, but glad to hear the doctors were able to help you with a solution. I started at 324 and am now 180, my goal is 164 being at 5'8. My question to you is did you have any complications during your pregnancy and/or have any problems conceiving? Right now we are trying to conceive and Im worried that I might not be able to have kids. I had my surgery in 2005. Please share your experience and anyone else who can share, please do.

Thanks All

I had no problems conceiving. I never have. Basically, I stop birth control and I am pregnant. I am very lucky that way.

During my pregnancy, I had an issue with my reflux and it caused pneumonia and I was hospitalized. This was due to the issue with the band. My son was completely healthy. Thank goodness!!!! I had no issues with nutrition or other things that you would think might come with bariatric surgeries.  It was a normal pregnancy except for the issue with the pneumonia caused by reflux. Now that we have this issue resolved, my husband has mentioned having another child. I am supposed to wait 2 yrs from this surgery before I try again. Not sure if we will or not. I would be 40 and have kids that would be 19, 17 and 6. Not exactly sure I want to start over, but it is a possibility.
I wish you lots of luck on conceiving. Will this be your first child?

Hi Sabine,

I am in the exact same position as you!
Although I lost 130 lbs I got down to about
230 lbs and then the weightless stopped.
I was going to the gym then a personal trainer
And swimming but nothing was helping.
I also had my op in 2008 but now find that
I am so discouraged that my eating habits
Have gone back to all of the bad things and
I have started to put weight on again :(

Had the same problem. Went to the MD. My thyroid was out of whack. Once I started Synthroid the weight came off

Also go back to the trainer and focus on weightlifting

The crazy thing is that fortunately I never had any complications (I.e dumping syndrome vomiting nothing at all). I could eat just about anything except some yogurts and I stay clear of ice-cream ( too sweet). I plateau'd at 250. I don't know what to do to lose more weight. I'm exercising more and more now. I'm so jealous. every1 I know has gotten down in the 1's and that's where I want to b. Any ideas on what to do?

I had a very severe case which caused the revision. My complications were not from the pregnancy.

I had the DS 01-18-02 - almost 10 years ago. I went down to 124 and weigh
now between 134 and 144 - size 10 ==sometimes size 8. Diabetes has not
returned, no more heart attacks (had 2 by age 45 - I'm 55 now), and fatty
liver has remained normal. Best thing I ever did - when I had the surgery I
had one grandchild who is now 10 years old. I'm alive and able to enjoy the
additional 3 grandkids, and plan on enjoying the one that is due on 09-01.
Life is definitely good since I had the surgery. Absolutely no regrets.

don't. I drink maybe a glass of red wine a day after dinner or the
occasional single serving of gin+tonic or single malt scotch (I'm a really
cheap date!). No beer, no diet or regular soda, very little bread or white
flour products.

Well Im kind of long term, I had my surgery bout 7 years ago and have kept the weight off since. I do fluctuate between 170 - 190lbs. My doctor's want me at 154lbs, but Im happy at the weight that Im at. I do try to exercise, but have tampered down to just walking so I have been staying at the higher range of my weight fluctuation. I try to keep soda and high fatty foods out of my food intake since these are the things that make me feel like cramp and cause my sides to start hurting like hell.

I as well would have still done the surgery know what I know now.

The only thing that I hate is the extra skin I have around my stomach and arms. Which by the way is minor.
