I believe dumping syndrome may be different from one individual to another. For me, if I ingest ANY sugar, I just feel like sh-t- worst feeling in the world, short of dialing 911 and begging for mercy. The few times I've had a gastrointestinal response, it's been pretty rugged - but for me, with lactose intolerance before the surgery - but not after - the subsequent bathroom experience was all too familiar.
Since my surgery I've just avoided Chinese and Thai restaurants unless I'm confident that there will be no sugar in the meal. This means being willing to say to the hostess/host AND the server that sugar will make me VERY sick. Steamed veggies with or without meat have been OK, and in the one Thai restaurant I trust I've been OK with a basil-meat or tofu stir-fry.
If there's any language problem, try a gentle pantomime, saying something like "No sugar - sugar make me sick" and holding your stomach, frowning. Look for a sign that you've been understood, as in "No, sugar, OK?" / "OK!"

We went out to eat I had asian chicken with rice and some soup and a dinner roll. About 10 minutes after we left the restaurant I go the worst feeling in my chest. It was almost like I needed to burp. The it turned to a burning that was terrible. I began to sweat (my undershirt was soaking wet). I could not get rid of it. I started to get sick (vomit) but nothing came out.
