Hello everyone.... Hi Vic....
I had RNY Dec, 2001. 11 years ago. That is a long time. I am 5'7" and was 350lbs on the day of surgery. I went down to 205-ish (didn't get under 200) Then a plateau. then up and down within 50lbs (so 200 - 250) over the years. I'm at 230 now. Still considered morbidly obese, which I HATE that term anyway. I think I want to get to 180 and that will be my healthy weight.
I took a bad health break for about 4 years, and now I am better and I feel younger even, and determined to at least get under 200.
I graze.... I catch myself and stop, but it's unconscious... that means I have to THINK more... yuck... who wants to do that much thinking anyway.
sometimes when there is no good food in the house I actually catch myself looking everywhere and thinking of what I can put together to satisfy the sweet tooth. I use to dump after so many pieces of sweets but the "many" pieces count has increased over the years (sigh.)
I still dump severely if I have two glasses of wine and then a desert. So definitely wine and sweets don't mix. I cannot mix the two... ever. Last time I dumped was 4 months ago.
We can talk about dumping (it SUCKS for me)... (it is different for everyone).... the low sugar thing is also common but very personal. I usually get a little dizzy, and then I know I need to have a bite of something. But that's it.
enough talk now.
my best to everyone.

Your surgeon can request an upper GI test that is an x-ray of you as you swallow a liquid the scanner can see. It shows to some extent the size of your stomach but isn't all that reliable.
We have a document in our file section called "Pouch Rules for Dummies", which describes a test done with measured cottage cheese, and gives an idea of how much cottage cheese one's stomach pouch might hold after certain time periods.
I long-ago set it up so this document gets emailed to every new member of this group, not sure if that is still working.

Thank you for sharing your insights with us. I've found that beer puts weight on me like crazy. I used to do 'Dr. Atkins' with a distilled liquor drink or 2, and still lose weight. But beer, as much as I love it, is a major weight adder for me. My husband finds that true, too. He's never had a weight problem until he retired and started having 1 or 2 beers daily. His sedentary lifestyle and some brewskis have helped him gain 30 pounds in the last 3 years.

Sorry about the recent spam. Sometimes email accounts get hacked (mine was) because one of those 2 members posting spam have belonged here since 2009 without spam. I do check, and will remove the offender and spam post. Thanks for your indulgence on this.

Anyone taking Magnesium citrate? All I can find is Magnesium oxide, but am reading that the citrate form is very much better absorbed.
Thanks!

Are you experiencing a negative body image even after losing weight? If so you may be interested in participating in research I'm conducting on body image and meditation. The study involves filling out a web-based survey, twice and listening to meditation podcasts for three weeks.
If you are female and interested in participating or would like more information please visit the study weblink:

I'm 13 years out and have seen this 'tolerance' evolve in me over the last 2-3 years. I used to get dumping from just a few sips, and sweet drinks were like poison. Now it takes 2 mixed drinks to get me tipsy, and don't get dumping from alcohol any more. It's scary because I'll get a brief 'buzz', then not much more than sleepy. I'm very much aware of it, don't drink very often, and I make sure my husband keeps booze in our house hidden (if he buys any), and he monitors my intake, else it would be easy for me to consume more.
