is an ultra sound of the legs the best test for DVT??? DVT really scares me and i think they are going to do an ultra sound before surgery to check me out... i do have leg swelling but it comes and goes so i think i am ok....

Since the radio-tracer that was needed for a nuclear med test for DVT is not longer available, ultrasound is the test used most often. My husband said just because someone is heavy, it doesn't mean someone would get DVT but inactivity is more likely to be the cause. Many things cause leg swelling. If your doc is concerned about DVT, he should do the test. Always go along with their recommendations or at least get a second opinion,  but it's good to question things if you think something isn't being done.
Good luck and feel well! Sheila
