Thank you for your kind words and support, Dorothy and others who have commented on this issue. Thank you, too, Taunia for posting about this.
We've always shown general guidelines on our home page which read, "NO ARGUMENTS OR ADVERTISING ALLOWED, but tell us about products you'd recommend to friends. NO VIRUS SCARES, URBAN MYTHS or CHAIN LETTERS. Just WLS-related issues, thanks.". That may be too general, but I had hoped it was at least clear. New members get a copy of 'Pouch Rules for Dummies', but I will look into creating a guidelines document repeating the prohibition of spam and advertising.
I've had trouble determining if Taunia's offering WLS "prizes" is spam or not, since I have seen her web site and recognize she is very open and proud about her WLS-generated transformation. However, her site is also commercial, which is quite understandable given Taunia's talents and interests.
In our 11-year history, I have allowed people to post 'about' products, and provide links to buy things, but those posters usually were 'bystanders' who didn't profit from the product references.
So...I'd like to request that Taunia stop putting such specific product description contest-related links because they 'appear' to be spam. It's OK to post the link to your site in our Links section and in a 'signature' in your posts, but nothing more elaborate than that, please. In case she misses this post, I will ask Taunia directly to stop posting those detailed links.
I believe the majority of our membership view this group as a place where they can safely discuss very personal, serious issues. I'd like to maintain that trust, and keep the 'helpful references' to other WLS information venues down to subtle reminders.
I don't know how we can completely prevent the culling of our email addresses. As a membership-required group, only members can see the membership list. I try to filter out potential spammers, but I am only human and my judgement calls on that has failed me on occasion in the past. I will look into settings to prevent that, if possible, but am not sure of it as I compose this note.
Thank you all for your patience and interest in this topic.

We have the 5 day pouch test in our Files section under 'Pouch Rules for Dummies', which is also sent automatically to new members when they join.
