Loreal,
I totally understand your anxiety and excitement. I too went on vacation pending approval and had to try to put it out my mind. I had my bypass 9/11/08. What a glorious day and decision. My transformation has been remarkable not just to friends and family but especially to me. My best suggestion I can share is to make sure to incorporate exercise into your routine ASAP!! The food focus will be a mandate since you will probably suffer adverse reactions if you don't closely adhere to your doctor's / nutritionist's recommendations.
I became obese during my twin pregnancy 7 years ago when I gain over 100 pounds due to very restrictive bedrest. I now weigh 145 which is still higher 15 pounds than my pre-pregnancy weight but I have lost a tremendous amount of inches due to my exercise routine. Prior to surgery I had begun to develop high cholestrol, high blood pressure, and rheumatoid arthritis all of which have dissapated.
Best wishes on your new life journey. Continue to reach out and inquire when you are not sure the members of this group are both informative and supportive.

Shelly,
Thanks for sharing. I have not had surgery yet, and probably won't till October or November. The doctor already has me on a 1400 calorie diet with a daily food journal ... and using a pedometer so i can record my steps. It is making me feel accountable about my eating and excercise and I am starting to think before I eat. That is a whole new experience for me.
Keep letting us know how you are doing. I need to hear that it works if you work it.
Jocelyn

I am right where you are but only 14 months out. I feel like I am sabotaging everything I have accomplished in the last year. I never dealt with my compulsive over eating and now I'm afraid of failing.

Just a quick question. Can you take B-12 in a pill. My surgeon said I had to get the shots every month because of the surgery. I do not have that portion of my intestines to absorb it anymore.

My surgeon recommends the Bariatric Advantage vitamins. I take two of the multi-vitamins, three calcium citrate, one iron, and one B-12 sublingual. You just have to remember to not take the iron too close to taking any calcium. My daily regimen is one multi-vitamin and one calcium citrate in the a.m.; one calcium citrate and the B-12 at lunch; one calcium citrate and one multi vitamin in the late afternoon/early evening; and one iron at bedtime. Hope all goes will with your surgery!!!

I have lost 26 pounds since surgery, and have had no complications. The best advice I can give you is to do all the research you can prior to surgery. I am fortunate to have a friend who had the procedure about 9 months earlier - she has been a blessing to me. Just plan to follow your surgeon's instructions - as you will find they all differ somewhat in what they recommend. I had to do a clear liquid diet the day prior to surgery and take something to "clean me out". After surgery I was on full liquid diet until I was released from the hospital. After that I could go slowly with "pureed" foods for at least two weeks. After the second week my surgeon advises slowly introducing regular foods as tolerated. I have had no significant problems. A couple of times I have eaten a little too fast and that caused me some minor discomfort, but like I said, nothing major and I would certainly do this all over again. Feel free to e-mail me with any specific questions you might have. Good luck!!! Renee

Take a B12 sublingual (under the tounge) daily should be fine. I'm 14 months out and have over normal levels from once a day!
