Tammy,
There is a saying " There are no mistakes just learninngs."  This is a big help to me. So now you are going to find a substitue for those cookies.  I know you can be suscessful...

Well I did not do well with my weigh in. I am up 2 and 1/4 pounds. I knew the chocolate cookies would not be good to have in the house. I hate pms.. I am going to have to find different snacks for the kids so I wont be tempted.

They love oreo cookies. I need to find a low calorie type of cookie that I can get them.

Hopefully next week I will be back to where I should be. I need to exercise more.

I am going through some very difficult things in my personal life and just have been lacking motivation.Hopefull y I will get motivated soon again.

Tammy

How about no cookies in the house at all? The kids don't "need" cookies. I
don't care how thin a child is, Oreos are just so so biscuits filled with
lard (literally...the filling is lard). I'd suggest, if you do want to have
some treats for the kids in the house that are better:
1. Hundred calorie packs, but the ones that are more trail mix-y than
cookies
2. Low calorie, high fiber granola bars
3. Low sugar, natural fruit leather
4. Fresh fruit...maybe the rule is "First two snacks of the day are fresh
fruit or vegetables, and only once may you have a sweet/carby snack"

As parents, we are wholly responsible for our children's nutrition (even if
they eat at school, it is still a parent's responsibility to know what they
are eating). As kids, we develop our tastes from what we are exposed to. My
husband grew up eating lots of packaged foods, and was never required to eat
anything he didn't like. (In fact his mother would make him another meal if
he didn't like what she was serving...he didn't say anything. She'd just
notice he wasn't eating and would get up and make him a new meal. He was
told under no uncertain terms that this would NOT happen with our
children...can't even IMAGINE!)

I grew up eating everything that was put in front of me. We were required to
clean our plates. I got a LOT of fresh fruits and vegetables, but the
veggies were always overcooked and cooked in butter, bacon fat, etc.

Neither of learned healthy eating growing up. His tastes are very narrow. I
will try anything because we ate a LARGE variety of foods, and I love
veggies, but I also learned to overeat and keep eating even when full. I'd
give my parents a C- in their nurturing of my nutritional habits, and his a
D-.

We should learn from, without blame, the mistakes of our parents and not
make those same mistakes with our kids. Where did we learn to love certain
foods? When were our tastes developed?

I will say, though, that I don't believe in completely keeping all treats
away from kids. That does make them seem like "forbidden fruit". My mother
never allowed us to have candy. I always swore when I grew up and had a
place of my own I would eat whatever I want and always have candy...which
blossomed me to over 100 lbs overweight! Good plan! My mother always had
candy for HER, though. It was hidden in her drawer (along with some very
educational books...but that's a story for another time). ;)

This is exactly the topic of the meeting this week. If you haven't gotten
to a meeting, try to get to one tomorrow. You will feel better....it's a
very motivational meeting.

Continued good luck.

Chris,

We all eat for different reasons. There's one thing I have learned over the years and it's that it's not about the food. It really isn't. Your weight was there for a reason and chances are you were using the weight to hide from something. I can't urge you enough to figure this out for yourself. I fear that if you don't, you will just put the weight back on. Getting under the 300 lb. mark for you believe it or not may have scared you. I speak from experience here. I'm just over the 300 mark now and I don't have any problem crossing that one over but it seems like every time I lose enough to dip below 250 something happens and I put it back on. I know I have to dig a little deeper within myself too. Keep us posted and don't be so hard on yourself for slipping. None of us is perfect. It's the getting back up and on the wagon that counts.

Hi all,

I had joined WW on 2/14. Since then I have lost 51 pounds. I am thrilled to finally be under the 300 pound mark and feeling better.

As the weeks went along I started to pick and nibble. This past week I have just been bad.

I got weighed in Tuesday night and was up .6 pounds. Today all I did was eat eat eat. We had a luncheon at school for our teachers. I ate before during and after the lunch. I brought leftover deserts home and ate them.

I don't know why but I know I feel bad. Physically and emotionally I feel bad.

It seems like the past week I have been sabotaging myself.

Does anyone else ever feel like that? How do you get out of this funk? I have along way to go and can't defeat myself now.

Thanks!
Chris

6b. growing up....
Posted by: "Kathryn Amadon" kathrynsquilting@comcast.net getmovin58
Date: Fri May 29, 2009 8:53 pm ((PDT))

On the subject of how our parents influence our eating habits: My mom always started our meals with salad - seeing as there were 8 kids it was a good way to start filling us up before the main meal. As a result, I've always loved salad and it's a main-stay in our family too. My brothers are the same way. However, we had to eat everything in front of us at lunch or dinner, whether we liked it or not. I refused to do that to my kids and was one of the guilty ones that would make add'l options so they would have something they liked. Worked out fine, they knew they never had to whine since it was all under control. It's different now that they're grown - since they can fend for themselves I no longer worry about cooking.

I live in a household of men, have 2 boys who still live at home, and for whatever reason I can make a cake and they have ONE piece and then it sits there (of course I eat it). It amazes me that they easily pass up treats. None of the 3 are what I would consider snackers - and other than homemade cookies - they eat really healthy (and workout on a regular basis). No thanks to me. Working in the corporate world I knew all the places running a 'family special night' so it was not unusual to be at Friendly's one night, McDonalds the next, and then Burger King another. YIKES.  Neither kid likes fast food and have become really good cooks ~ which is a good thing because I only have a kitchen because it came with the house (says so - right in my kitchen).  So my bad habits actually have contributed to their good habits. I count my blessings. It doesn't always work out that way.

And they now buy me 'shelf worthy' products for my 'ww food shelf' in the pantry. Too cute. Nice to have great kids that will support your efforts.

So that's my story.

Kathryn A.

ToryI

agree about the motivation. I think I irritated my WW leader at a meeting once when she asked what I was going to do to stay motivated. I told her that if I was relying on motivation I would have to just pack it in right now. I think this journey is a decision. I have a TON of weight to lose and I can't think about that. I have to take each day seperately and each moment DECIDE to make the right choice. I am like an alchololic but with food. I struggle every day and every day I can get through and stay on program I give myself something to be proud of. I lost 5 lbs. at my weigh in and my leader was looking at me for some kind of great reaction. It's not that I'm not pleased that I lost 5 lbs. but after being on weight watchers so many times that I lost count. I think I've finally got the fact that this has to be forever so I'm not in this big hurry to lose all the weight. Don't get me wrong. I'd love for it to be sooner so I can enjoy the results of better health and cute clothes and not feeling like a blob, but I know that I have to eat like this for the rest of my life. So just like I didn't jump up and down when I lost the 5 lbs., I didn't get all depressed and down when I only lost .8 the week before or the .2 the week before that. It's all going in the right direction and every day I get a tiny bit lighter and healthier. Now I just have to adopt the same attitude with excersise.

It sounds like you don't want it badly enough to make behavioral changes
needed to lose and get in shape. Being "in shape" means that you exercise
most days of the week, with intensity. You make healthy food choices most of
the time, every day of the week. You journal, and eat with intention.
There's nothing about "motivation" in there, is there? Motivation never
lasts. Intention, habit, and drive lasts. Motivation and drive are two
entirely different things. For example, I run marathons. I am not always
"motivated" to get out and run, but because it is important to me that I be
well trained when I hit the start line of the marathon, drive gets me out
there every time.

I am not motivated to eat right every day. I've been doing this since
February of 2002. I don't EVER wake up and say "I am SO motivated to eat
right today and journal my food! Woo hoo!" Rather I am driven to eat right
because my health is important me, being and STAYING at my goal weight is
very important to me, living long and feeling great is a requirement in my
life.

Require more of yourself than "I need to feel like it to do what I know I
should do..."

I've been coaching women towards better health for about a year now, and
every single one of them who rely on "feeling like it" have faltered and
stopped. I won't say failed because I do believe that they will "get it" at
some point. Those who just keep saying "I'm worth it. I'm going to keep
working until I get there" are doing great.

Love is a feeling...health is an acquisition.

Thank you, Tory

This was just what I needed to hear. Drive is something I have and really pride myself on my ability to "stick to something". I lose my motivation frequently, but I now have a different way to think about this journey.

WHEW! There are times I don my "steel toed boots" and then I worry "Oh man,
I've offended her. I've come across mean. I hope she's not mad."
But honestly, these are things I found I had to hear myself! I mean most
people know I joined WWers and started exercising and lost 100 lbs. What
most don't think about, and even I forget sometimes, is that I started and
stopped MANY times before I finally decided to stop making excuses, stop
depending on feelings, and just go forward saying "I am WORTH this!"

So I'm glad you took it as something you maybe didn't WANT to hear, but
needed to hear. It is lovely to hear "It's okay. We all make mistakes.", but
I do think that sometimes we learn more when we are a little more "real"
about what we're doing and stop excusing bad decisions. While no one should
feel bad about a poor decision, we should always strive to first learn from
it, and next NOT repeat it...rather than say "Oh it's okay, move on" only to
repeat the same behavior two weeks later.

So move forward with DRIVE and DETERMINATION. Enjoy it when you feel
motivated, but don't wait for motivation to act. I think Dr. Oz says
motivation does not spurn action. Action spurns motivation.

Forgot to mention that I added in mushrooms, onions, green pepper and garlic
to it. One piece without a salad was totally enough!
